    MPC #122 - Las Montanas/Vertical Relief 5/13-28, 2014

Happy feeling achieved. Though certainly a smaller field then usual. That seems a trend.

This is truly my favorite time of year in the mountains. While nothing beats a pow day on skis, wildflowers, spring run-off, snow-capped mountains, and post-session beer while wearing flip-flops hits my mountain sweet spot. Roads into the high country begin opening. I'm one of those kooks that actually likes accessing north facing bowls via summer trails with running shoes and shorts. An afternoon kayak is a terrific apres-ski. In Tahoe, girls start showing up to beaches with bikinis on. My son loves seasonal creeks. My dogs love seasonal creeks. And there is enough snow lingering to keep the vast majority of summer hikers down at the REI weighing ball caps.

So, wide open theme. I wanna see mountains. Lifestyle, adventure, and formal landscapes are all rad entries. Seemingly most of us could, make that should, make it out into the hills over the next couple of weeks. For those that live in flatter areas, vertical relief will be our theme. Find ways of highlighting those contour lines.

We'll leave this open through Memorial Day Weekend and an extra day to shoot and process anything that comes out of that weekend.
    Fingers crossed!

Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

Linville Gorge, it nearly combines everything you mentioned. Incredible mountain views for 16 miles of some of the best whitewater in the world.

Mountain biking and the mountains. Here's entry #1, and likely my only entry since tomorrow I leave for the low-country... horrible timing for this contest. Can't wait to see the rest of the entries.

The mountains have been pretty clouded in a lot the last 2 weeks around here.
So this weekend I went south to where the sun shines.... Boston! Some decent vertical relief there if you count the buildings.

#2 So this might be the first selfie posted in an MPC but oh well. Thought it captured the theme nicely. Taken on North Maroon Peak saturday. 700 ft up a massive no fall zone

I was in Peru from 5/15-5/26. The mountains were big.

I can't figure out how to make the pictures larger, but trust me, the mountains were pretty big.

Some rad entries in this one! NEK I really like that first shot of Boston.

All shot near Cascade Springs in Wasatch Mountain State Park.

I have my work cut out for me. There's a couple I know make the cut. There's a number of entries that should/could.

Gonna be some tough decisions. Long live the mighty MPC.

That looks like awesome fun. I'm sure it took some precision to catch that chute.
