Managing Overages for TinyURL Bulk Plans

Managing Overages for TinyURL Bulk Plans

TinyURL’s overages system allows you to enjoy our platform’s features uninterrupted, and stay at 100% even when seasonal changes make it hard to stick to your plan’s printed limits.

If you aren’t familiar with TinyURL’s overages system, we recommend reading our explainer article first, then returning here.

In order to minimize your costs and maximize your value, we’ve prepped the following guide.

Disable Link Analytics Wherever Possible

We built our Bulk plans with a specific use case in mind: large-scale link generation where a click-through rate of no more than 100% is expected. This means text campaigns at scale, operational automation, and other instances where you need large volumes of links that are unique to their receivers — who are only really expected to click once.

Since click limit overages are always-on for Bulk users, and since it’s technically possible to reach click-through rates exceeding 100%, we strongly recommend you disable link analytics for links that you expect to receive more than one click.

There’s no rule against using a Bulk plan to create links that redirect tons of people to the same destination. Just be aware that this kind of usage can lead to you reaching your monthly click data limit very quickly, and overage costs to grow along with them.

You can toggle stats collection for a link by selecting it on your dashboard, clicking the kebab icon to the right of the action buttons, and then clicking “Disable stats collecting”.

Just be mindful when managing this — there’s no way to recover click data generated during periods when stats collection is disabled.

Shop for the Bulk Plan You Need

Ultimately, our overage feature is no substitute for a TinyURL plan that matches your actual monthly consumption rates. In the grand scheme of things, you can enjoy a cheaper cost-per-link by switching to the next bracket higher — especially when you hit a point where your needs scale up.

Subscribing to the right plan for your consumption patterns offers you comparatively better costs as well as the peace of mind that comes with regular and predictable billing. The downside to relying on overages, on the other hand, is how easy it is to let costs snowball — especially if you let yourself get used to exceeding your monthly limits.

Consider Whether a Pro Plan Works Better for You

If you’ve switched off analytics for every link that looks like it’ll receive a ton of clicks, or if you simply have too many of those kinds of links to manage, then it’s possible that our Bulk plan isn’t for you.

Like we mentioned up top, our Bulk offering was designed for users who need a lot of unique links which are expected to get a maximum of one click a piece. A good example of this would be an auto-messaging system meant to redirect customers to their unique order tracking forms. In cases like these, our Bulk plan is a great fit.

But if you find yourself expecting to shorten links that generate a lot of traffic, then the most cost effective way forward may be to consider shifting to one of our Pro plans, or our Enterprise plan (if you find you really need a high volume of links per month).

In the end, TinyURL is committed to offering you a clear and efficient option, no matter your use case. As we discover new ways for users like you to get the most out of our system, expect us to update this list with more tips!
