If you created a TinyURL link without registering an account and now want to edit or delete it, there are two things you’ll need to do:
- Assign the link to a TinyURL account, and
- Subscribe to a paid plan to unlock editing and deleting.
This article explains why both steps are needed and how to complete them.
Why You Need to Claim the Link First
For security reasons, our system is designed so that only the link creator can modify a link. To edit or delete a link, it first needs to be assigned to your account.
Here’s the important part to understand: when you create a TinyURL link without registering an account, that link is stored only in your device and browser’s cache (session). It isn’t saved to any account. This means you can lose access to the link if you clear your browser cache, or if you replace or lose your device.
How to Claim a Link You Created Without an Account
If you can remember the device and browser you used to create the link, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open your recent links
- On the same device and browser you originally used, go to https://tinyurl.com/app/.
Step 2: Check “Your Recent Links”
- Look for your link in the Your Recent Links list. If it appears there, the link is still stored in your browser session.
Step 3: Log in or register
- Log in to your existing TinyURL account, or register a new one. Any links shown in Your Recent Links will be carried over into your account.
For a full walkthrough, see our step-by-step guide: Import TinyURLs Into My Account.
If the link was created a long time ago: There’s a good chance your browser cache has already been cleared or the session no longer exists, so the link may not appear in Your Recent Links.
Important: If a link does not appear in your Your Recent Links list, there is no way for the system to associate it with an account. Ownership can only be established through the browser session where the link was created.
Unlocking Edit and Delete: The Pro Plan
Once the link is assigned to your account, you’ll need to subscribe to our Pro Plan to edit the destination URL or delete the link. The Pro Plan includes:
- Dashboard access: view all click activity on your links.
- Full link management: create, edit, and delete your links.
- Edit Destination URL: update where your existing links point.
- Export to CSV: export all your links at once.
- Full API access: which you can use for SMS and other integrations.
- Branded Domains: buy a branded domain, or bring your own domain or subdomain, to personalize your links.
