Abstract (2. Language):
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of teaching with analogies model on how 9th grade students understand chemical bonds. This study in which pre-posttest quasi-experimental design were used was conducted in two different classes consisting of 48 students with the same teacher. The subject matter chemical bond was covered on the basis of teaching with analogies model the experimental group while it was covered on the basis of traditional teaching approach in the control group. The data gained was analyzed using t-test and ANCOVA statistical techniques. That the teaching with analogies model was more effective than traditional teaching approach in teaching chemical bonds was found out. In addition to that, it was also found out that the students whose prior knowledge and logical thinking abilities are greater are better at understanding chemical bonds.
