A new story book that aims to help children understand and come to terms with COVID-19 has been produced by a collaboration of more than 50 organizations working in the humanitarian sector, including the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Save the Children.

With the help of a fantasy creature, Ario, “My Hero is You, How kids can fight COVID-19!” explains how children can protect themselves, their families and friends from coronavirus and how to manage difficult emotions when confronted with a new and rapidly changing reality. READ MORE

Metro Update
Metro ExpressLanes will begin testing the Occupancy Detection System along the 1-10 and I-110 ExpressLanes starting June 1, 2020 to take advantage of the recent decrease in traffic. This technology uses cameras to determine the number of persons in a vehicle and compares it to the switch setting on the transponder. The Occupancy Detection System will correct instances where a transponder has been incorrectly set to the toll-free HOV mode and there are not enough passengers present to qualify for toll-free travel. This technology is designed to handle all common passenger arrangements including small children placed in car seats or located in the back seat. All facial images will be redacted for privacy purposes.

Additional communication will be sent out before this system goes live. Occupancy Correction Violation notices will not be mailed out during the testing period. For more information please visit www.metroexpressLanes.net.

Below are the latest updates from Mayor Garcetti's office:

Testing Now Available For EveryoneLA is the first city in America to offer wide-scale testing for all residents with or without symptoms. This happened just 40 days after the launch of the City’s first testing site. People with symptoms will still have priority, but testing is now open to everyone that wants a test. Testing is free to the public and you can sign-up at coronavirus.lacity.org/testing.

LA Compact: The Mayor announced a partnership with L.A. Compact, a coalition of early childhood, K-12, higher education, and nonprofit leaders to support kids, their families, and schools. We launched a page on their website for any student in the class of 2020 to fill out a form describing your question, problem, or concern for a counselor from their accepted college, and a high school or one of our non-profit partners will help answer their questions. For more information, please visit coronavirus.lacity.org/collegeconnect.

Domestic Violence Resources
City Attorney Mike Feuer and District Attorney Jackie Lacey just launched the "Behind Closed Doors" campaign, in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District and the California Grocers Association, to highlight in-home crimes amid the COVID crisis. Not everyone is safer at home. And whether it's domestic violence, child abuse or elder abuse, being isolated can make victims more vulnerable.

Here are resources for victims of domestic violence. Please share. Victims can also text 911 or call 911 in an emergency.
