Planning, also called urban planning or city and regional planning, is a dynamic profession that works to improve the welfare of people and their communities by creating more convenient, equitable, healthful, efficient, and attractive places for present and future generations. Planning helps communities envision their future and find the right balance of new development, essential services, environmental protection, and innovative change.

Designed as an opportunity for high school students to explore urban planning as a potential career, FLiP offers a broad exposure to planning from public and private sector perspectives across many fields. Since the program began four years ago, FLiP has expanded from nine to 21+ students and from a two-day to a four-day intensive program.
FLiP 2023 is a four-day summer program. Hillsborough County School District students in good standing in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 may apply; however, current seniors will be considered only if space is available. Students who reside in Hillsborough County attending private high school may also apply.
Through a series of interactive planning activities, speakers and tours on foot, bus, streetcar, and boat, the FLiP program provides:
This FREE program runs May 30, May 31, June 1, and June 2, 2023 from 8:00a - 5:00p and includes meals, snacks, a FLiP T-shirt, and more! Student applications are due by Monday, April 24, 2023. Recommendations are due no later than Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Students accepted into FLiP 2023 will be informed of program acceptance and receive more details and agenda in mid-May.
