Stand with Standing Rock/Red Warrior Camp

UPDATE: Join local supporters at Burns Park (8th and Main) on Tuesday, October 11 from 5 pm 5 6 pm on (bring you posters). Information, fundraising (fry bread sale - YUM!), support. Photo at 5:45 p.m. More details about the event here. And more details about local efforts here.)

On September 27, Miles Koenig who helped organize a load of supplies for the 3,000 plus people working to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline near the Standing Rock Sioux reservation in North Dakota, spoke about ongoing local efforts to help. Another truck of supplies will leave La Crosse on about October 14.

After overwhelming response to the first call for donations, Miles said that others have been enlisted to help collect and store donations. Donations of warm clothing (all sizes), winter sleeping bags (5 degrees or better), canvas tents, food, hygiene items, feminine products, school supplies (yes, children are among those at the camp), and other items detailed in this article, please take them to English Lutheran Church, 16th and King Streets or to UWL's Cartwright Center Information Counter (Cartwright Center is at the corner of State Street and Campbell Road. The easiest way to drop off donations there is to access the building via East Avenue on the north, pull into the circle drive on the north side of the building (if you can keep someone in the car as you carry donations inside, that would be helpful), enter the building and go up the stairs on the left to the info counter).

If you are unable to donate goods, you may donate via PayPal at the Standing Rock donation site. There is also a GoFundMe page that lists other items needed as winter approaches. The protectors also invite those who are able to stand with them and help maintain these villages by cooking, carrying, providing assistance, writing, blogging, and taking photos.

To keep up on what's happening, visit the Standing Rock Sioux webpage. You can also follow the Red Warrior Camp's Facebook page.

Miles reported that the protectors plan to maintain their camps at least into January and that he and his brother Bronson plan a third trip for sometime in November.

Is there any interest in working to hold a donation drive for the November trip? Please email couleeprogressive[at]hotmail.com if yes.
