Photography Education in a Web 2.0 Classroom
Myers, Erik
Knowledge Quest, v37 n4 p36-39 Mar-Apr 2009
As a novice teacher, the author was confident in his ability to teach digital photography but didn't initially realize the extent to which blogs, wikis, and social networks could reshape and enhance how students learn, and how, by incorporating these tools into his curriculum, he would ultimately find ways to use Web 2.0 tools to truly engage and inspire his students. In this article, the author discusses how he used these Web tools to enhance the learning of students in and out of his classroom. By integrating these applications into his curriculum, the author has been able to showcase student achievement, open new lines of communication with current and former students, manage classroom workflow and collaborate on projects with teachers that he has never met. Embedding Web 2.0 applications into the daily activities in his class has created an environment where students can learn the skills that will be necessary for the jobs of the future, as they interact in ways that are more natural to their out-of-school preferences.
