Residence: Originally from Khujand, a city of the Dayuan in the Ferghana Valley (Kingdom along the Silk Road), met Sha Kuang in Luo Yang.
Appearance:
While foreign to China, Lin Chang is considered quite beautiful. Blue eyes, and fair skin, and red lips, with a rather curvy figure and full breasts. She’s of average height, but compared to Sha Kuang, she looks small. Her brown hair is not tied up in the style of the day, but loosely hangs to her shoulders; kept out of her eyes by a simple circlet that only has a slight adornment to it. She normally wears clothes of a nomad (short woolen tunic, soft silken trousers, knee high boots of supple leather), but she is also known to appear in a rather sturdy suit of scale armour.
Personality:
A fiery woman if there ever was one, with passions for fighting, reading, and love. She is extremely proud, and enjoys the company of strong and intelligent men. Those who would think of her as a plaything, she has nothing but scorn for and is quite prone to killing or severely injuring them. Like Sha Kuang, she has a fondness of alcohol but she has a considerably higher tolerance for it than him, as well as having a higher pain threshold. She is also more quiet than Sha Kuang, allowing her actions to speak for her, rather than idle words.
Weapon:
Cavalry Saber; A single edge weapon effective from horseback, useful for slashing. Being that Lin Chong is not exceptionally strong, this weapon is useful for her as the curve makes an attack from horseback considerably more effective. Its weakness lies in that it cannot thrust, and the hand guard is not very large, making trapping weapons difficult. Though that is not what it is used for anyways.
Recurve bow and Bodkin Arrows; Lin Chang is primarily a horse archer, and this is where her skill lies. The bow is of quite a high draw weight, but she can fire 5-6 arrows in a minute from horseback. She is also capable at firing from all angles (front, left side, right side, backwards, etc.) The downside is that the weapon itself is not that powerful over long ranges.
Armour: On her torso, Lin Chong has a lacquered leather corselet, molded to the shape of her bust, which covers her front and back. The waist portion is strengthened with steel scales which go around and protect her kidneys. She has scale cuisses to protect her thighs, and the same scale armour is on her shoulders and upper arm. On her forearms are leather vambraces that protect her wrists and the tops of her hands. On her feet she wears knee high riding boots made of supple leather. In all, the armour is strong enough to deflect away most strikes and arrows, but allows enough freedom of movement that Lin Chang can move with great finesse.
History:
Born in the capital city of the Dayuan kingdom, Saira (as she was named then) was the daughter of horse merchants who would travel along the Silk Road every year to bring superior Ferghanese horses to China. Being of a horse culture, she learned to ride before she could walk, and being part of the escort she was expected to fight and protect the horses, and so she was trained in the way of the sword and of the bow. She became quite adept at both, but due to her smaller frame she had a stronger attachment to the bow, preferring to fight from a distance. It was during one such adventure, when Saira was fifteen, that the trading group was attacked by an extremely large number of bandits. The group was able to fight them off, but in the tumult Saira was lost, and to her parents dismay had to go on without her. Outnumbered she fought on against the bandits, but their numbers proved to be too much for her, and she was made their captive. These bandits were slave traders, looking for pretty girls and strong men to sell to the Chinese at the Great Wall. She was sold to a man who was in charge of the pleasure districts in Luo Yang, and being that she was still a maiden he took it upon himself to have her trained to be a great courtesan, learning to play the pipa and recite poetry, as well as being able to speak on recent events with the men who came to see her.
She was more than a prostitute, she was a professional lover. She grew up in the more opulent of houses, and those who came to see her paid great sums to be with Lin Chang “Bright Jade”. She was in relative comfort, but being a slave she could not travel about as she wished. It was here however that she soon met Sha Kuang, the man who would become her husband. He was attracted to these pleasure quarters, and his life as a bandit meant he was able to afford seeing Lin Chang. She soon found herself growing attached to him, for he could keep up an intelligent conversation about the politics of the day, but also his prowess in bed was unmatched. Sha Kuang evident by his numerous visits with her had also become attached. He talked of taking her away, where they could be together; free from anyone else, but Chang didn’t think he would actually do it. But the day came, when the owner of the pleasure house had told her she was purchased by another man. She was afraid it was going to be some dirty official, but when Sha Kuang appeared in the doorway, tears welled up in her eyes and she rushed forward to embrace him. Soon they were wed in a simple ceremony, and it was then that Kuang learned of her fighting skills. She became part of his band, and accompanies him wherever he travels.
