PHLASH Set to Premier at Midway Gallery – February 2019A retrospective photography exhibition featuring the work of Phil In Phlash. Sponsored by Gallery East and the Midway Artist Studios, the exhibit runs from Tuesday, March 5th through Saturday, April 6th. Gallery Hours are Monday through Friday 10AM-4PM (15 Channel Center Street Boston MA 02210). The artist reception takes place on Saturday, March 9, from 5-9PM, and is FREE and open to the public. Gallery East Opens a New Location – November 2017at 249 A Street, Studio 61, which marks a return to the South Station area after a 35-year hiatus. Gallery East, founded in 1979 by artists Duane Lucia and Al Ford, was located in a 5000 square foot storefront at 24 East Street in Boston’s historic Leather District. In 1983 with the oncoming development of the South Station area, the gallery was forced to close the East Street location.

Studio 61 – October 2017Studio 61, located on the top floor of the 249 A Street artist coop in Boston’s Fort Point Channel neighborhood, is a collaboration between artists Duane Lucia and Tony Savarino. It was founded in 1984 by Tony’s mother Paola Savarino in one of the country’s first artists housing cooperatives, and remains a working artists space, as well as location to the archive of Paola Savarino and the Gallery East collection. Studio 61 recently hosted the 2017 FPAC Open Studios and will continue to offer regularly scheduled programs. The Studio (illustrated magazine) – November 2016The Studio was an illustrated monthly arts magazine founded and published by Charles Holme in London in 1893. It exerted a major influence on the development of the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements. The Studio was international in its coverage, and contained, long, often well-illustrated, articles on all aspects of the decorative, fine and applied arts. |

Les Maitres de l’Affiche: Boston Connections (Part 2) – September 2015Will Bradley’s When Hearts Are Trumps (Plate 52) first appeared in Les Maitres de l’Affiche in 1897 as a poster promoting a volume of verse by Tom Hall in 1890. Nicknamed the “Dean of American Designers” by The Saturday Evening Post illustrator William Henry Bradley was the highest paid American artist of the early 20th century. |

Les Maitres de l’Affiche: Boston Connections (Part 3) – October 2015Ethel Reed’s Miss Traumerei (Plate 99) first appeared in Les Maitres de l’Affiche in 1898 as a poster promoting a novel by Albert Morris Bagby, from Boston publisher Lamson, Wolffe & Co. in 1895. Ethel Reed (1874-1912) was an internationally recognized American graphic artist. Born in Newburyport in 1874, the family moved to Boston in 1890 shortly after the death of her father. She studied briefly at the Cowles Art School in Boston in 1893, and after 1894 began to receive public notice for her illustrations. |

Les Maitres de l’Affiche: Boston Connections (Part 4) – November 2015This American poster first appeared in Boston in 1895 to announce an exhibition of the Society of Painters in Water Color of Holland at the Chase Gallery. It was selected as Plate 112 for the 1898 issue of Les Maitres de l’Affiche. The poster was designed by Charles Herbert Woodbury a Boston artist best known for his marine, landscape, interior paintings and etchings. |

Gallery East Sponsors Jazz Week-April 2015Jazz Week ’15: Jazz in the Neighborhood runs from Friday, April 24 to Sunday, May 3 with 200 events scheduled throughout Greater Boston. The 10-day celebration of the music and the area’s unique jazz scene ties in with the Smithsonian’s national observance of April as Jazz Appreciation Month and Duke Ellington’s birthday on April 29. |

The Beatles Invade BostonSeptember 2014 marks 50 years since The Beatles descended upon Boston during the group’s first US tour. The Fab Four performed their only concert at the Boston Garden as part of the tour, which sparked the British Invasion and Beatlemania, setting fire to a musical love affair that endures to this day. On September 12, 13 and 14, The West End Museum will host The Beatles Invade Boston: 50th Anniversary Celebration, a full weekend of events commemorating the momentous occasion. |
