The Luxor’s MORE Buffet

Blonde4ever reviews her experience with the MORE Buffet at Luxor…

Las Vegas abounds with buffets of every size, price, and quality. I had a free buffet reward from the online My Vegas game, and since I was going to be visiting Luxor for a show, I decided to try MORE, their buffet.

I have not visited the MORE buffet since 2004, so I was curious to see how things had changed. I am one of the many people who enjoy themed resorts, and I never understood how the powers-that-be figured they could de-theme an Egyptian pyramid with a Sphinx out front, so I was pleased to see that the MORE buffet area looked exactly as I remembered it. It reminds me of a movie set; you feel as though you are wandering in subterranean caverns.

The layout of this buffet is very easy to navigate. The different food stations are separated by a vast amount of space, so you never feel crowded. I like that I don’t have to fight the crab leg crowd if I am trying to make it to the ice cream. The non-alcoholic beverages are all self-serve which I enjoy. I would rather get something myself than wait for a waitress to happen by.

For an extra price, you can buy the alcoholic drink option. The separate seating areas create a cozy feel. Some buffets resemble school cafeterias, but this one doesn’t. The man busing my area was a delight; so sweet, friendly and thrilled when I went to the cashier to get change and then came back to tip him. That must not happen very often.

MORE is generally considered a middle-of-the-road buffet, so I went in with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. I started with the salad section. I could find no fault with the offerings there. They had every salad fixing imaginable; fresh and nicely presented. They had split crab legs, but I didn’t study them too closely. I have discovered I am too lazy to fight with shellfish for one mouthful of food.

The hot entree area was somewhat disappointing in my opinion. The meat and fish offered are cheaper cuts, as you would expect. Sometimes I marvel how cooks can make simple recipes taste bad; things like macaroni and cheese and beef stroganoff for instance. Even a terrible cook such as myself can successfully produce tasty versions of those. I tried some of MORE’s attempts and they did not appeal to me. My strategy for places like this is to put 4 or 5 different things on my plate and try a bite of each and eventually I will find one I like.

I was extremely impressed by the dessert section. Sometimes you encounter desserts with no discernible flavour; they just taste sweet. If I am going to indulge in a brownie, it needs to taste like chocolate. If you call something lemon, it had better taste lemony. The MORE buffet had lots of options, and they were all delectable. The cheesecake and chocolate lava cake were out of this world.

The price of the MORE dinner buffet is approximately $25, and I consider that to be reasonable for what you are offered. I would definitely visit this buffet again but the next time I might go straight from the salads to the desserts!

  1. I agree with you, Bonnie. I won’t fight with shellfish for a mere mouthful. Otherwise, your review was spot on.

  2. Don’t sugar coat it Bonnie :)
We absolutely hate the More buffet. Ate there two times and both times the food just tasted like cardboard. We wouldn’t even go back for a free meal. The problem is exactly what you said: they have managed to screw up the most easy dishes to cook.

    1. I am not “sugar coating” a thing. This was my experience. Truly enjoyed the the salad section and desserts…the hot dishes were hit or miss. I dare say that is the case with most buffets.

Also this was dinner…I might have a totally different opinion about breakfast.

  3. I will need to eat at the Luxor this coming Sunday, if I am to bypass the Buffet where is a more acceptable option to eat at?

    1. I would say visit the buffet and make your own decision on whether or not you like it. Whether or not a buffet is “good” is a very subjective thing. You might love it. It is certainly not my intention to discourage anyone from visiting.

I don’t frequent the Luxor area often enough to offer opinions on the other restaurants there.
I know TENDER steakhouse is good but also pricey.

  4. It’s been two years since I ate breakfast at MORE. Sure it wasn’t the best breakfast I’ve ever had, but it was good for the price! The mimosas were good too, so that’s all that matters when it comes to a breakfast buffet in Vegas, right!?

  5. Those crab leg lovers are pretty intense haha, my sister and cousins included. Getting your own drinks is a plus.

  6. I enjoyed reading your report. I’ve never been to the Luxor Buffet but might give it a try sometime. I like themed hotels too.
