COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — The Ohio Department of Health reported a record number of new coronavirus cases Saturday.

The state reports 5,549 new COVID-19 cases with 149 more hospitalizations and 12 more deaths.

The update comes as Ohio has repeatedly broken its own record for new daily cases in recent weeks. Last week, cases broke 3,000 for the first time.

Current hospitalizations are at 2,188 after dropping below 600 around Sept. 26.

The positivity rate has also increased. In mid-September, it was 2.7%. As of Nov. 5, it was 8.4%.
