Darcy Cheesman, Legislative Aide

Happy December!  Before you close out the year, there are a few items I would like to highlight.

WA State Department of Commerce Grant Program

Additional relief is available to our small businesses. Governor Inslee recently announced additional COVID-19 financial support, which includes $50 million for Round 3 of the Working Washington Small Business grants. Details about this grant opportunity, including how to apply for funding, are now posted here on the Department of Commerce’s website. The online application portal will open this week and interested businesses and eligible nonprofits should submit their application as soon as possible once the portal goes live to ensure consideration. Again, here is the link to the grant webpage, and you can find information about other programs through the Department of Commerce on their COVID-19 Small Business Resources page.

Pilchuck Bridge – US 2

I recently reached out to WSDOT to get some updated information on the joint repair for the Pilchuck River Bridge on US 2.  According to the response I received, WSDOT Bridge Maintenance performed some remedial work on the expansion joint recently that should temporarily address the issue with the bad bump that was getting many complaints. They are hopeful that the temporary work will hold up until the new joint is available for installation in January. I was advised that the installation of the joint will be weather dependent.

Republic Services Presentation

I invited Republic Services to our Public Works meeting on Monday to give us an update on the current recycling challenges facing our waste disposal partners.  If you would like to watch the presentation it can be found here.  I did want to highlight one slide which advises on what can and what cannot be recycled.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns (sam.low@snoco.org or 425-388-3494).  I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  I will see you all in 2021.
