I wanted to ask you if you remember me at all, as I used to sleep in my own room in thames house and, Mr&mrs wylies daughter was a baby then she slept in a cot in my room she was a very good sleeper. I wondered if you could remember her name, the wylies were very good to me they were like a mum & dad.
Let me know how you get on keep in touch ,and let me know if you decide to go tothe annual meeting I think it's the first bank holiday in 2016.
Kind regards alan loxton
I loved the woods and mastered most of the trees which I passed on to my children. We all learned to swim in the pool and played many sports. One grew up very fit and tough. We lacked the parents to guide us academically though and probably suffered from that but many of us overcame and did well although some ended up in prison or borstal for a while. We could have done a lot worse especially in other countries so I thank God that I was fed and taught and had some good fun.
I can remember Miss Edwards,
When I was there they had a cobbler working from an old windmill who had a peg leg,
My name then was George Ventris later surname Parish,
Would love to hear of anyone of any news on my remarks.
I remember you and Rex very well also Pete mc Donald who was a painter and decorator, he had the cubicle bed in the dormitory in dart house. I was at Hutton from 1960-1965.
Sorry to hear about your sister Sally.I had been talking to Desmond uddin a while ago we had several conversation over a few months haven't herd from him in a while now. I remember most of the kids in the house.

go regularly every year.
I am asking for a friend , Rita Field, does anyone remember Myrtle Nation or Valerie Stogdon around the years 1955 - 1960?
I also lived in Hutton Poplars from about 1966-1979. I can't honestly remember when I first started living there as I was only about 2 or 3 years old until 16 years old. I went to school in Bishop's Hill before it closed down and then attended Long Riding's school which was located at the back of Thames House. I lived in one of the new homes called Randall House which was very closed to the Woods and Thames House. I have very fond memories of living there. It shortly closed down after I left, I think around 1981. Does anyone know the next reunion might be?
I was there until about 1974 with my brother Ronnie. Do you remember us? My name was Eileen Rust then. I have often thought about you all and wondered where and what your all up too. I have a few photos from our time there, I think your in a few of them.
I would love to hear from you. Hope your well x
So anything after that I can't help you, annual meetings are not at the church hall anymore the last I heard in April this year was they were looking for another venue.
I don't know if you knew Sophie Ullah or the rest of the family but they were still at Hutton when I left.
I've heard from several people over the last four years, nice to catch up on past memories, let me know if you find out where the next venue is.
Nice to hear from another resident of Hutton I have some nice memories.
Kind regards Alan Loxton.
I believe they are looking for another venue,if you find out from anyone please let us know.
I didn't know mr and Mrs Easton but have heard a lot about them through Desmond uddins who I had long conversation with.
I was in fal house from 1960-1963 when miss creffield was house mother then in 1963 -1964 I moved over to dart house again with miss creffield as house mother, then in 1964-1965-6 moved over to Thames house when mr&mrs Hugh wylie were house parents, they were lovely just like a mum and dad I wish I could contact them but my searches have come up with nothing.
I remember most of the people in fal, dart and Thames house we had a lot of fun and of course lots of holidays and outings.
If you read through my comments at top of page you will see most of the names of people I remember and of course spoken.
I notice most of the residents from Hutton all seem to live in the districts of north and east London,I live in Lincolnshire, where abouts do you live.
Well once again nice speaking to you all the very best to you take care.
Kind regards Alan loxton
Thank you for responding.
Kind regards David.
Bye for now regards Alan loxton
I am trying to find information about my father Edward George Carpenter born in April 1936. He was apparantley in the home with his sister and he had a nickname of Sunny/Sonny ? If anyone has any info or pictures would really appreciate it.
Mrs Edwards did have many screaming episodes with a boy called Christopher Bland, who again when we were in our 20's. I was best friends with his brother Colin Bland. He had a little brother called Johnny. My other friends were David Lord and Christopher Paniokoshou (or something like that - actually these were friends from Cam). I am a bit confused now, because I think Mrs Edwards might have been Cam, not Grasmere?
The names from Grasmere were Lorna Scadzi, Alex and Kika Boyardis, Hockey Ali and Mark Edwards. Sorry its all a bit mixed up but my ages from 1962 to 1969 when I left were 2 years to 9 years.
I certainly remember the excitement of watching the Beatles on the television in 1963.
Costos.
When I moved in to the home, I was put in to Fal House. I remember Peter McDonald, Chris Murray, Myrtel, Geoffrey Stogdon, and Theresa Reed. If I remember rightly, Peter McDonald had a big birth mark on his face. I moved in to Medway house. Mr Hutchingdon was the House Master. Then was moved Katrine House. John and Mary Robinson were house parents. When they stopped working here, in late 1959, they moved to Thundersley Essex and took me with them.
London County Council told me that they had found one of my sisters, THERESA REED, and that she was moving in to the home. Then they told me they had made a mistake, and Theresa Reed left the home. L.C.C had lied, shame on them. I have since found out that she was in fact my sister, and somewhere along the lines I think I recall that her name may have changed in marriage to Theresa Sweeney. It's a shame we were never given the opportunity to know each other as siblings.
I also remember Pat and Timothy Evans, Pat came along with me when John and Mary Robinson left and took us both.
In more recent years, I have gotten a fair amount of paperwork about my parents, and life before being in homes, and am very thankful for my life experiences at Hutton Poplars and the life and family it enabled me to have, and for John and Mary Robinson.
Having found this thread and written here on Friday gone, I have spent the weekend fondly reminiscing my time here. In case anyone reads my comments, and like me finds their memories triggered by these comments, I'd like to add some more...
I remember going to school with the open toilet at the bottom of the playground, and in the school hall putting on Christmas shows for the paying public, and taking the show to Warley mental hospital to entertain those there. We would go to the pictures on a Saturday if we had enough pocket money for being good, and also watching films in the school hall once a month... The Wooden Horse, Reach For The Sky, Norman Wisdom films etc. I remember the weekly sweet rations - I remember so much and have thoroughly enjoyed finding this page, others' comments, and talking about what life was like here with my family. I would love to hear if the previously discussed yearly reunion continues, or any information to do with that. Thank you for reading.
1955 to 1966 does any one remember a house parent who said he used to look
after the Queens Children Charles and Ann. He was there at the same time as John Robinson and his wife were house parents. The annual reunion no longer
happens stopped about 5 years ago. Regards Tim Evans
The balance of all fund’s after expenses were paid out were given to a Charity!
Vince confirmed this after suggesting that the money be paid to us so we could continue our Reunion’s but Jane had already donated it to a Charity!.
His name was Rex Johnson, he never really spoke about his time here but would like to now if anyone knew him and could tell me things about him to maybe understand his childhood if he was memorable as he was a very quiet person all of his life who held in all his feelings
Any links to other sites would be awesome to
Regards
Alastair Johnson
