Hi can you help me my uncle was a resident at hutton poplars in the late 1950's early 1960's his name was Alan Wilderspin and he told me of a man the was a volunteer tennis coach called Douglas parsons i was wondering if you might remember him
Hi louleebell, I have been in touch with des Uddin over a few months talking about the past. I read your comments but of the top of my head I cannot recal an alan wilderspin I will contact des to find out if he remembers the name, Do you go to the annual meeting at hutton where they meet at the church I have not been myself as I only found out recently about the meetings. Its been going on for quite a few years now. I would like to go out of curiousity and see how many people I would bump into that may have been in the same house.
Des told me that the ullahs go there. As I said before I shall find out if I can and let you know.
Regards alan
Hi looleebellswilson, I have been in touch with des but unfortunately he doesn't remember your uncle alan or Douglas I know that doesn't help much. But don't give up keep trying, I do believe the ullahs are regular visitors to the annual meetings, I'm sure that someone else prior to the sixties that goes there will be
able to help.
I wanted to ask you if you remember me at all, as I used to sleep in my own room in thames house and, Mr&mrs wylies daughter was a baby then she slept in a cot in my room she was a very good sleeper. I wondered if you could remember her name, the wylies were very good to me they were like a mum & dad.
Let me know how you get on keep in touch ,and let me know if you decide to go tothe annual meeting I think it's the first bank holiday in 2016.
Kind regards alan loxton
I was in Medway House with my brother Chris. Came in 53 left about 58/59. I remember Maria Gough, Tony Conrad, Vera McNamara and her brother James, Pat Green, Pat Horne, Chris Murray, Theresa Reed, Norman Greenhorn and many others.

I loved the woods and mastered most of the trees which I passed on to my children. We all learned to swim in the pool and played many sports. One grew up very fit and tough. We lacked the parents to guide us academically though and probably suffered from that but many of us overcame and did well although some ended up in prison or borstal for a while. We could have done a lot worse especially in other countries so I thank God that I was fed and taught and had some good fun.
I was in Grassmere late 1950s,
I can remember Miss Edwards,
When I was there they had a cobbler working from an old windmill who had a peg leg,
My name then was George Ventris later surname Parish,
Would love to hear of anyone of any news on my remarks.

Hi
I am asking for a friend , Rita Field, does anyone remember Myrtle Nation or Valerie Stogdon around the years 1955 - 1960?
Hi
I also lived in Hutton Poplars from about 1966-1979. I can't honestly remember when I first started living there as I was only about 2 or 3 years old until 16 years old. I went to school in Bishop's Hill before it closed down and then attended Long Riding's school which was located at the back of Thames House. I lived in one of the new homes called Randall House which was very closed to the Woods and Thames House. I have very fond memories of living there. It shortly closed down after I left, I think around 1981. Does anyone know the next reunion might be?
Hi Trisha. I remember you and your sisters Pauline, Sandra and Sonia.
I was there until about 1974 with my brother Ronnie. Do you remember us? My name was Eileen Rust then. I have often thought about you all and wondered where and what your all up too. I have a few photos from our time there, I think your in a few of them.
I would love to hear from you. Hope your well x

Hi Christine, I left Hutton poplars in 1965 after being there since 1960.
So anything after that I can't help you, annual meetings are not at the church hall anymore the last I heard in April this year was they were looking for another venue.
I don't know if you knew Sophie Ullah or the rest of the family but they were still at Hutton when I left.
I've heard from several people over the last four years, nice to catch up on past memories, let me know if you find out where the next venue is.
Nice to hear from another resident of Hutton I have some nice memories.
Kind regards Alan Loxton.

I was in fal house from 1960-1963 when miss creffield was house mother then in 1963 -1964 I moved over to dart house again with miss creffield as house mother, then in 1964-1965-6 moved over to Thames house when mr&mrs Hugh wylie were house parents, they were lovely just like a mum and dad I wish I could contact them but my searches have come up with nothing.

Well once again nice speaking to you all the very best to you take care.

Hi Alan, I only live local, Wickford, although I wasn't a resident, I would love to meet up with the people I met, so would be interested in the reunion.
Thank you for responding.

Kind regards David.
Hi David, thanks for your reply but like I said if you manage to find out the new venue date and times I would like to meet up and meet some of the old residents from Hutton, just to go over old grounds,
Bye for now regards Alan loxton
Hi
I am trying to find information about my father Edward George Carpenter born in April 1936. He was apparantley in the home with his sister and he had a nickname of Sunny/Sonny ? If anyone has any info or pictures would really appreciate it.
My dad Edward George Carpenter was also in the home with his sister Emma Ada Carpenter but most people called her Ada.
I lived in Grasmere with Mrs Edwards from about 1962 to about 1967 then me and my 2 brothers and sister moved to Cam. In Grasmere the real character member of staff was Miss Lilly, whose favourite game with the children was crushing our hands in a hand shake. Very odd lady. However Mrs Edwards was very nice, and definitely the boss. I visited her later in the 1970's or early 1980, where she was still very close to Sandra Wilmot and Susanne Davies, (who used to dance to top of the pops. It was so normal then.

Mrs Edwards did have many screaming episodes with a boy called Christopher Bland, who again when we were in our 20's. I was best friends with his brother Colin Bland. He had a little brother called Johnny. My other friends were David Lord and Christopher Paniokoshou (or something like that - actually these were friends from Cam). I am a bit confused now, because I think Mrs Edwards might have been Cam, not Grasmere?

The names from Grasmere were Lorna Scadzi, Alex and Kika Boyardis, Hockey Ali and Mark Edwards. Sorry its all a bit mixed up but my ages from 1962 to 1969 when I left were 2 years to 9 years.

I certainly remember the excitement of watching the Beatles on the television in 1963.

Costos.
I remember Hutton popular school I was there in the sixties my name is Michael Loxton does anyone remember me Miss creffield was the lady in charge of my house
My name's Stanley Reed - 1955-1960

When I moved in to the home, I was put in to Fal House. I remember Peter McDonald, Chris Murray, Myrtel, Geoffrey Stogdon, and Theresa Reed. If I remember rightly, Peter McDonald had a big birth mark on his face. I moved in to Medway house. Mr Hutchingdon was the House Master. Then was moved Katrine House. John and Mary Robinson were house parents. When they stopped working here, in late 1959, they moved to Thundersley Essex and took me with them.

London County Council told me that they had found one of my sisters, THERESA REED, and that she was moving in to the home. Then they told me they had made a mistake, and Theresa Reed left the home. L.C.C had lied, shame on them. I have since found out that she was in fact my sister, and somewhere along the lines I think I recall that her name may have changed in marriage to Theresa Sweeney. It's a shame we were never given the opportunity to know each other as siblings.

I also remember Pat and Timothy Evans, Pat came along with me when John and Mary Robinson left and took us both.

In more recent years, I have gotten a fair amount of paperwork about my parents, and life before being in homes, and am very thankful for my life experiences at Hutton Poplars and the life and family it enabled me to have, and for John and Mary Robinson.

Having found this thread and written here on Friday gone, I have spent the weekend fondly reminiscing my time here. In case anyone reads my comments, and like me finds their memories triggered by these comments, I'd like to add some more...

I remember going to school with the open toilet at the bottom of the playground, and in the school hall putting on Christmas shows for the paying public, and taking the show to Warley mental hospital to entertain those there. We would go to the pictures on a Saturday if we had enough pocket money for being good, and also watching films in the school hall once a month... The Wooden Horse, Reach For The Sky, Norman Wisdom films etc. I remember the weekly sweet rations - I remember so much and have thoroughly enjoyed finding this page, others' comments, and talking about what life was like here with my family. I would love to hear if the previously discussed yearly reunion continues, or any information to do with that. Thank you for reading.
Pat Evans was my best friend while living at Katrina wth mr and mrs Robinson, could not have wished for better house parents, have never stopped thinking of them god bless them both and all who lived at the house we called Katrina.my name is Adrian shah I am now 75 years old I Olso used to go to laindon school, loved my time there, good memories.
I was in Hutton with my brothers Tom Pat and Bill .We were in Kathrine House
1955 to 1966 does any one remember a house parent who said he used to look
after the Queens Children Charles and Ann. He was there at the same time as John Robinson and his wife were house parents. The annual reunion no longer
happens stopped about 5 years ago. Regards Tim Evans
Hi I was in Hutton from a baby along with my 4 sister Georgina Doughty Christine Gibson France Gibson Jeanette Gibson and myself Theresa Gibson. I was 1st put into windermere house I don't really recall very much but later on up the line 3 of us was put into Neath House our house parents were Fred and dot stearman what lovely people they were They treated us like we were there children. I remember the gray horse called smokie has my sisters who were a few years older than me put me on the horse backwards. I remember my 1st days outing it was to the royal horse draw show. I remember a boy called David Makepeace whom one of my sister liked lol. I have been to all the annually reunions The last one was in 2017. Due to an incident at the last Reunion 2017, Jane the organiser decided (and because of her age) that she wouldn’t organise anymore Reunions.
The balance of all fund’s after expenses were paid out were given to a Charity!
Vince confirmed this after suggesting that the money be paid to us so we could continue our Reunion’s but Jane had already donated it to a Charity!.
