Enquirer names Greater Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, Feb. 10

In a vote that ended Feb. 10, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Cincinnati Enquirer Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Feb. 5.

Winners will receive certificates by the end of the sports season.

The Athlete of the Week voting occurs during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports. Here are this week's winners.

Ohio boys basketball team of the week: Talawanda – The Braves beat Northwest 59-53 to force a tie atop the SWOC before a non-conference win over Reading.

Ohio girls basketball team of the week: Talawanda – Talawanda finished the regular season a perfect 21-0 after beating Taylor 59-38, Ross 45-42 and McNicholas 83-58.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys basketball team of the week: Boone County – Boone County topped Holmes 75-52 on Jan. 31 and Williamstown 76-58 on Feb. 2, winning consecutive games for the first time this season.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls basketball team of the week: Conner – Conner beat Notre Dame 50-33 on Feb. 4 and has won nine of its last 10 games.

Boys winter team of the week: Turpin bowling – Against New Richmond on Feb. 2, Turpin had a 1,131 score in an individual game, setting a school record. With 1,073 in the second game, the score of 2,204 across two games was also a new school record.

Girls winter team of the week: Dixie Heights bowling – Dixie Heights had wins over Lloyd Memorial and Boone County to reach the finals and finish as Region 6 runner-up.

Ohio big-school boys basketball player of the week: Patrick McLaughlin, La Salle – He scored a game-high 12 points in the Feb. 3 win over Moeller 27-26, adding 5 rebounds and 1 steal.

Ohio small-school boys basketball player of the week: Luke Sanders, CHCA – The sophomore guard averages a shade under 25 points per game after having 38 points against Aiken, 27 points against Summit Country Day and 40 points against Georgetown in his last three games.

Ohio big-school girls basketball player of the week: Katie Murphy, Wilmington – The senior led Wilmington with 17 points in a tight 39-38 win over Hillsboro on Feb. 1, scoring her 1,000th point in the process.

Ohio small-school girls basketball player of the week: Alexis Neal, Georgetown – The senior had a career-high 33 points and 19 rebounds against Felicity-Franklin on Feb. 2 and followed at MVCA with another 21 points and 18 rebounds.

Northern Kentucky boys basketball player of the week: Dalton Kramer, Conner – He led the Cougars with 26 points and 11 rebounds in a win over top-10 ranked Mason County.

Northern Kentucky girls basketball player of the week: Chilota Iloegbunam, St. Henry – She led the Crusaders with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Lloyd, then scored 15 points against Ludlow.

Ohio boys bowler of the week: Andrew Pride, Batavia – He threw a 690 three-game series, including a 289 single game at the SBAAC Championships.

Ohio girls bowler to the week: Mary Anhofer, Saint Ursula – She bowled a 401 series (games of 190 and 211) in a win over Wilmington.

Northern Kentucky boys bowler of the week: Aidan Vickers, Lloyd – He finished fifth at the Region 6 singles tournament, with three of his five games above 200.

Northern Kentucky girls bowler of the week: Alyssa Bechtol, Dixie Heights – She finished second in the Region 6 individual standings to qualify for the state tournament and helped the Colonels take second in the team tournament.

Ice hockey player of the week: Michael Billups, Moeller – The senior scored two (2) goals against conference rival Olentangy Berlin including the game-winner in overtime to lift the Crusaders over the Bears with a 3-2 OT victory on Moeller's Senior Hockey Night.

Ohio boys big-school swimmer/diver of the week: Bryce Menchhofer, Sycamore – The senior won the 100-yard freestyle at the Greater Miami Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 3-4. He also anchored the winning 200-yard medley relay.

Ohio boys small-school swimmer/diver of the week: John Kaleta, Fenwick – The senior won the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-meter individual medley at the Greater Catholic League-Coed meet.

Ohio girls big-school swimmer/diver of the week: Isabella Teply, Mason – The freshman won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle at the Greater Miami Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 3-4. She led off the winning 400-yard freestyle relay, helping Mason to a team title.

Ohio girls small-school swimmer/diver of the week: Elizabeth Fager, Summit Country Day – The junior won the 100-yard butterfly and finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Miami Valley Conference Championships Feb. 4. She swam the third leg in the winning 200-yard medley relay, helping SCD to a first-place team finish.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys swimmer/diver of the week: Griffin Barlow, Highlands – The sophomore won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke at the Region 7 Swimming and Diving Championships. He led off the second-place 200-yard medley relay and swam third in the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls swimmer/diver of the week: Reese Yauger, Ryle – The sophomore won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly at the Region 7 Swimming and Diving Championships. She also swam the third leg of the second-place 200-yard medley relay and anchored the third-place 400-yard freestyle relay.

Ohio boys wrestler of the week: Jared Johnston, Moeller – The junior achieved his 100th win over the weekend.

Ohio girls wrestler of the week: Rylee Miller, Ross – She won the 155-pound weight class at the Lady Dragons Pool Tournament, pinning all five of her tournaments.

Boys archer: Nathan Dinser, Walton-Verona – He shot a season-high score of 284 at Ryle for his third top-five finish of the season.

Girls archer: Baylee Hamm, Cooper – The freshman earned her first top-10 finish since November, grabbing eighth place at Ryle with a score of 279.
