Thank you, God, for the state of Maine, reaching ever for the first light of day. As Thy people wake to eastern rays, what chowder of nourishment dost Thou prepare for body and soul: concocted so delectably of pine needles and potatoes, of herring and clams and lobsters in their rocky lairs, of blueberries and new-mown hay and a thousand lakes and little boats brave upon the deep. Of such blessings did our fathers and mothers distill their rugged liberty: Grant us grace to win the same, along the country roads and on the fringed and tasseled coast of our wooded land; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

What's New in the Episcopal Church in Maine

Prayers...
of remembrance on the anniversary of D-Day, for the 2500 Americans killed and the many more wounded that day and the 50 million people who perished in World War II. President Franklin Roosevelt, a lifelong Episcopalian, offered a prayer on national radio that night, which concluded:
"With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of greed and racial arrogancies. Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister Nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men. And a peace that will let all of men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil.
Thy will be done, Almighty God.
Amen."

Thanksgiving for...
the dedicated support and service of Gretchen Lane to the mission and ministry of St. Elizabeth's Jubilee Center in Portland. She has served on the Board of Directors of St. Elizabeth's and volunteered at the pantry each Tuesday. Clients and those who have served beside Gretchen are filled with heartfelt gratitude for her humility, kindness, patience, and her commitment to treating all people with dignity.

St. Luke's Episcopal Church hosts a "Listen, Love, and Pray" table in front of Life's Perks Coffee shop on Main Street, Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. weather permitting. "Prayer is taking what is heard and speaking to God in a loving way for the person on the sidewalk. Prayer helps us to know we are not alone in this life," Rev. Suzanne Cole (who goes by Mother Sue) said. Read more here in The Daily Bulldog.

Watch Parties for Ordination & Presiding Bishop Curry Service
All parishes and church groups are encourages to consider hosting watch parties for the upcoming Ordination and Presiding Bishop Curry's service on Sunday at the Temple in Ocean Park. The diocesan YouTube platform will broadcast the ordination starting at 10:15 AM on Saturday* and at the same time on Sunday morning. *The actual service starts at 11:00 AM on Saturday but broadcasting of the beautiful music and early processions will begin early; the Sunday service begins at 10:30 AM. Details about how to connect to the services will be sent out next week to everyone. In the meantime, if you are planning a watch party, please contact John Hennessy to let him know your plans or if you have any questions. We will try and give everyone a shoutout at an appropriate time. This is a most remarkable time for our diocese. We are thrilled we have access to the technology to bring the excitement and the solemnity to you and to record it for future viewing.

Application forms and information for two processes open to congregations and diocesan groups for funding have been released by the Finance Committee. Find these on episcopalmaine.org.

Your Life with the Psalms: a morning retreat at St. Columba's
Jewish and Christian people throughout the ages have sought wisdom from the Psalms because the Psalms speak to the faithful, the seeker, the doubter, the hopeful, the troubled, and the joyful. In a hurried and noisy world, this morning retreat will offer a sacred space and grace-filled time so that you may experience a deeper relationship with God through the Psalms.
Your Life with the Psalms is sponsored by All Saints by-the-Sea, Southport and St. Columba's, Boothbay, and will be led by the Rev. Dr. Virginia M. Sheay, Assisting Clergy of Trinity Church, Solebury, PA and summer parishioner of All Saints by-the-Sea. It will be held the morning of Saturday, June 29th from 9am until noon at St. Columba's, 32 Emery Road, Boothbay.

Celebrate 200 years with a timeline telling the story of our diocese! All of the congregations, chapels and ministries which make up Episcopal Maine are asked to send their favorite three photos, the name of their congregation or ministry, the date founded, location, ministries, along with a few (25-50) words about something that excites the group and contributes to their unique story. At the recent Spring Training day, participants in the workshop "Creative Approaches to the Prayers of the People" worked together to create Prayers of the People for the diocese to use on Pentecost. Save the Dates for a Journey to the Holy Land - January 18-29, 2020
11- Day Pilgrimage Tour
You are invited to join other pilgrims from the Episcopal Church in Maine and
St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brookline, Massachusetts as we walk in the footsteps of Jesus. The pilgrimage will be under the direction of the Rev. Thomas Mousin, spouse of Bishop-elect Thomas Brown, and the Rev. Jeffrey Mello, rector of St. Paul's Church. Together, we will visit the places of Jesus' birth, life, ministry, death, and resurrection. Our experienced personal guide Iyad Qumri, will lead us in exploring ancient places, vibrant markets, and modern museums in a land that is suspended between East and West, past and present.
The estimated cost is $4000. The precise amount will be determined by September 1st and won't exceed $4150.

Individuals or groups interested in learning more about Sacred Ground: a film-based dialogue series on race and faith are invited to an introductory, free webinar on June 11th.
Built around a curriculum of powerful documentary films, videos, and readings, Sacred Ground is a 10-part series that considers some of the major chapters of the United States of America's history of race and racism.
There is no fee for this one-hour webinar on Tuesday June 11, 1pm but pre-registration here is required.
