Four to Face Sarajevo Hearing

The four are charged with war crimes committed against Bosnian Muslims and Bosnian Croats in the Omarska and Keraterm camps near Prijedor in northwest Bosnia and Hercegovina between May and August 1992. The allegations include confining in inhumane conditions, murdering, beating, sexually assaulting, harassing, humiliating and psychologically abusing non-Serbs in the camps.



The transfer of low- and mid-level war crimes cases to local judicial systems in the Balkans is part of the Hague tribunal's completion strategy, under which the court is due to wind up its work by 2010.



The appeals chamber ruled against challenges to their transfer by the four on grounds that their trial would be unfair if held in Bosnia.
