Beyond Checking A Box: A Lack of Authentically Inclusive Representation Has Costs at the Box Office

 At CSS, we believe it is important to acknowledge that media representations are not neutral. Storytellers can either reinforce stereotypes and structural disadvantages faced by members of marginalized identity groups in the U.S., or promote more nuanced, authentic representations and encourage deep, important conversations among all Americans.

 
 

These insights are aimed to aid storytellers recognize current media representations of marginalized individuals, their impact on all youth, and encourage the necessary changes to bring more AIR to portrayals of marginalized groups in media.
