----------

Two Houghton residents were arrested Monday in Escanaba.

According to the Escanaba Department of Public Safety, around 1:05 a.m. Delta County Central Dispatch received a call about a man and a woman sleeping in their vehicle with a baby in the back seat in the parking lot of Walmart. Escanaba Public Safety officers responded to check on the welfare of those individuals.

Once at Walmart, officers made several attempts to wake the man and woman to check on their conditions. The man and woman were woken up and seemed to be in distress, officers said. The officers on scene requested Rampart EMS to evaluate the two adults and baby. Officers said EMS personnel found no medical issues.

After further investigation, a K9 was brought on scene. Deputy McDonough and K9 Jet conducted a cursory sweep of the vehicle’s exterior, with K9 Jet giving an indication of drugs being located within the vehicle. The investigation led to officers locating approximately 40 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a scale, more than 90 small plastic baggies, and a glass smoking device.

The driver, 21-year-old Ashley Reilly and the passenger, 33-year-old Ryan Timko, both of Houghton, were each arrested on different charges.

Reilly was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, child neglect, and lodged at the Delta County Jail on the charges.

Timko was arrested on two outstanding warrants out of Houghton County.

The 8-month-old baby that was in the back seat of the vehicle was subsequently turned over to Delta County Child Protective Services.

Nothing further will be released at this time.
