This season marks the end of an era at the Richards Memorial Library. Maggie Holmes, our adult services librarian for more than twenty years, is retiring. Maggie established book discussion groups, knitting circles, supervised adult programming, gave advice to readers, founded the Open Mic, staffed the reference desk, taught computer and digital skills, and became an institution here that is much loved by patrons and her colleagues alike. She will be missed and we wish her well. Maggie’s last day is November 30, if you can, stop by and say good-bye.

**Children's We will have two virtual story times this month: the weeks of November 9 and November 23. There will also be Take and Make Crafts available for pick up those weeks. November is Family Literacy month, Good Nutrition Month and Family Stories Month. Of course if you google that, you will find that April, July and September are also National Literacy months according to some, which is fine, but we are here in November. So, stop by the library and pick up some books to read, share and talk about as a family. We will have some fun story-sharing ideas to try as you settle in to this colder, darker time of the year. Share your stories with your children. You'll appreciate your life and they will learn to love stories, which is the best reading incentive ever. Check out the National Center for Family Learning site for some family fun ideas. Our gatherings this year will be smaller and limited, but we can enjoy who and what we have still. **Young AdultsThe library's Youth Advisory Council is returning this November and is going remote! The council is for teens between the ages of 13-17 who love to read and share opinions. Members will read about upcoming books and vote on if the library should add them to circulation. They can also decorate the Young Adult book display. Learn more and register at: https://www.rmlonline.org/youth-advisory-council

This November's Adult Take-and-Make Craft is a felt, autumn leaves bookmark. Ten kits will be available on a first-come basis at the Circulation Desk beginning November 2. We will also have an in-person craft class at Allen Avenue School on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 6 pm. Have fun learning how to create a functional piece of origami! Origami is the art of paper folding where the goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished piece. This class will begin with participants creating their own decorative paper using tissue paper, colored pencils, alcohol inks and markers. Participants will then create a square origami box step by step and decoupage the box with layers of their unique decorative paper. The class finishes by creating small cards of gratitude to include as keepsakes in the final piece. We will be meeting at Allen Avenue School, 290 Allen Avenue. Limited to 6 people. We will keep a waiting list.
