DePaul volleyball head coach Marie Zidek announced the addition of Erin Higgins to the coaching staff.

CHICAGO - DePaul volleyball head coach Marie Zidek announced this week the addition of Erin Higgins to her coaching staff for the 2019 season.

"I am excited to announce the hiring of Erin Higgins," said Zidek. "It became evident during the interview process that she brings to the table an added layer of recruiting and player development that's exactly the fit we need for this program. Her passion, versatile coaching knowledge, and ability to network is a great compliment for my staff and me. Most importantly, these qualities are a compliment to her value system that aligns perfectly with our Vincentian mission.

"She will elevate our training gym, be an excellent role model for our young women, and add even more recruiting contacts to our vast network. The combination of these attributes will help us continue to move the needle forward in all aspects of our program for years to come."

Previously an assistant coach at Truman State, Higgins helped lead the volleyball program to a mark of 21-11 in her final season (2018) before becoming a Blue Demon. In her past two seasons working in Kirksville, the program boasted an overall record of 38-26, had six All-Conference student-athletes, and continued to excel in the classroom with a 3.52 team cumulative GPA.

Before beginning her stint as a Bulldog, Higgins had a successful three-year tenure as the head coach of the Blue Devils of Davenport Central High School in Iowa. During her time at Central, Higgins improved the program's finishes in the Mississippi Athletic Conference (MAC) from eighth in 2014 to fourth in the fall of 2016. Within that time frame, Higgins coached 10 All-Conference, three All-Metro and three All-District performers.

Throughout all of her coaching experience, the Bettendorf, Iowa native organized and created practice plans, supervised all assistant coaches, coordinated the travel arrangements, prepared scouting reports, assisted with the strength and conditioning program, facilitated fundraising, directed youth and high school summer camps, and implemented weekly grade checks among several other duties assigned.

A previous standout at Missouri-St. Louis, part of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), Higgins was a four-year starter/letter winner at the right side for the Tritons. The Pleasant Valley High School (Iowa) product was named First-Team All-GLVC in 2009 before second-team nods in both 2010 and 2011 when she was a senior co-captain. In the program's record book for a career, she is seventh in three different categories including kills (1,027), attempts (2,627) and block assists (244).

"First off, I want to thank coach Marie Zidek, Nick Vogel and the entire DePaul community for giving me this opportunity to be part of the Blue Demon family," said Higgins. "Marie has an incredible vision for this volleyball program and I am eager to get in the gym and train with the team. I also grew up visiting Chicago and am so excited to call this city home.

"I also want to thank Ben Briney at Truman State for preparing me for this moment, as well as two great years coaching along side him."

Higgins replaces Maggie Strus who moved into the DePaul compliance department as an assistant director following the 2018 season.
