Don't ruin a good thing

Staff Writer

We should not sell the state's "Wine and Spirits" shops for many good reasons, but the best one is that they make a lot of money for the state.

If you sell off a profitable asset your gains are diminished by the amount that you would have profited if you did nothing. The state has so many more things to sell off that lose money but would be coveted by private industry like trees and land. We have lots of both.

If we lose the profits from the stores and then throw thousands into unemployment, whatever short-term gains we get will disappear quickly. Our state stores work great and they provide services to every corner of Pennsylvania at reasonable prices.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.
