Enquirer names Greater Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, Nov. 17

In a vote that ended Nov. 17, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Nov. 12.

Fall winners through Oct. 20 should have received their certificates, which recently were sent to the athletic departments. The remaining certificates will be mailed at the end of the season.

The Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athlete of the Week voting occurs during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports. Here are this week's winners.

Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athlete of the Week

Ohio football team: Anderson – The Raptors held off a big comeback to defeat Harrison 50-36 to reach the regional finals with a 12-1 record.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football team: Ludlow – Since losing to Newport on Sept. 15, the Panthers have won seven of their last eight, including the 28-6 victory over Newport in the postseason rematch.

Fall team: Kings volleyball – Kings finished its historic campaign with a 28-1 record, becoming the first Cincinnati-area public school to win an Ohio High School Athletic Association volleyball title since 1994.

Ohio big-school football: Kevin Jordan, Princeton – He led the Vikings with 12 tackles (nine solo), a pass breakup and an interception in their 19-7 Division I playoff loss to Lakota West.

Ohio small-school football: Ean McGuinness, Clinton-Massie – The senior kicked a 41-yard field goal in the Falcons’ 21-3 loss to Alter in the Division IV playoffs.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football: Braden Becknell, East Central - He had five tackles and a fumble recovery in a regional final win over Evansville Memorial.

Boys soccer: Paxton Hafner, Moeller – He scored the team’s goal in the Crusaders’ loss to St. Ignatius in penalty kicks in the Division I state championship game.

Girls soccer: Sydney Hardesty, Cincinnati Country Day – The senior anchored the back line as the Nighthawks shut out Madeira 4-0 in the Division III state semifinals and Ottawa-Glandorf 1-0 in the state championship game. CCD posted shutouts in all seven of its postseason games to win the state title for the second consecutive year.

Girls volleyball: Cassidy Rivas, McNicholas – She led the Rockets with 11 kills and three digs in a three-set sweep of Meadowbrook in the Division III state semifinals.
