Gawain and the Green Knight (1973 UK) It’s #FondueSunday and today’s entry is this Arthurian story based on the poem of the same name. Gawain is challenged by the Green Knight to a deadly game. This is solid fondue and if you like this sort of thing you will like this. I’m not a big fan of fondue so I have to ask the men in my life if it’s fun because it’s all bad to me. I have been assured that it is fun. Director Steven Weeks at least had some imagination and the locations were quite interesting. A few years later somebody gave him more money to do the exact film again in Sword of the Valiant. Here’s why this is such an interesting film to me. I challenge you to watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail and then watch Gawain. Take a swig of your drink every time you see a similarity to Holy Grail. The Monty Python writers must have seen this prior to writing their script. At one point I thought one of the characters was going to say, “And you father smelt of elderberries”. I am not implying that Monty Python ripped it off but it felt like they may have used it as a point on which to springboard off of creatively. The end result is far from the staring point. So Dear Monty Python lawyers; this is just my dumbass opinion. I have no proof. Find it on Tubi free.
