Guns N’ Roses hits Best Buy bargain bin
Best Buy is no longer interested in taking a bath on Guns N’ Roses “Chinese Democracy,” and is now practically giving the album away.
As the exclusive U.S. retailer for “Democracy,” Best Buy is offering a special deal on copies of the CD; you can now purchase the album via BestBuy.com for just $1.99.
The retailer reportedly paid $14 million for 1.6 million copies of the album, according to Hits; to date, “Democracy” has sold just 614,000 copies in the U.S., based on Nielsen SoundScan reports.
Simple math suggests Best Buy has close to a million copies collecting dust in its stores and warehouses – no wonder they’re looking to unload the album at any price; retailers aren’t fond of stale inventory cluttering up their systems.
Released in November of 2008, “Democracy” was officially certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on February 3, 2009 for shipments in the United States in excess of one million copies.
