Geocache Description:

Come to the 2nd Annual Geocaching event at the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center. Saturday Oct 21, 2006.

We want to introduce new cachers to this great pasttime. We hope to see you there. Remember to bring a lunch!

The difficulty and terrain ratings are based on the temporary event caches, otherwise it would be a 1/1.

This is designed for new cachers to learn from experienced cachers. I learn something new every time. If you are bringing someone new, please have them take the time to set up an account at www.Geocaching.com, if they haven't already.

9:00-10:00 Meet and Greet-Coffee/Donuts
10:00-10:45 indoor introduction to Geocaching.
1) What is Geocaching?
2) Using a GPS
3) The Geocache website

5) Geocaching etiquette, park rules...
10:45-11:00 Break
11:00 - 2:30 searching for geocaches at the nature center.
12:00 - 1:00 Brown Bag lunch and sharing geocache experiences.
2:30-3:00 Door Prize and Game Prize Drawings
3:00-Dusk Look for Nature Center Geocaches (established ones) with or without experienced assistance.

We are planning contests/drawings to test your abilities. We are looking for people who wouldn't mind helping out new cachers or interested muggles. When you post your note for attendance, please let us know if you can accompany someone else and/or have extra Gpsr's or if you are bringing new cachers who haven't registered on the GC.com site. You don't have to help out to attend.
I know that gas is high, but there are 10 permanent caches within 1.5 miles and there will be several temporary caches for the event. So there will be lots to do and many people to meet.

Camping is available in the Wellesley Island State Park. Camping is recommended for those attempting the permanent caches in the area. Those caches will take more time than we have allotted for the event to complete.

The Cabins and Cottages are open all year in the park, however the campsites close in Mid-October because of the potential of freezing waterlines.

Reservations can be made by going to (visit link) and clicking on the 'reservation' link. This will take you to the "reserve america" website where people can search for available cottages or cabins. The cottages are 1/2 mile from the nature center and cost approximately $100/night but have everything (heat, running water, kitchen, bathrooms, 4 - 6 beds...) and the cabins are about 5 miles from the nature center and have two bunk beds a frdge, microwave and table. Some have propane heaters. I think there is a two night minimum when making reservations.

If anyone wants to take a chance by just showing up to rent a cabin or cottage at the park office then they might get one for one night if there is one available.

The phone number to make reservations is 1-800-456-2267 or they can be made on line at the previously mentioned web address.

In Alexandria Bay the Riveredge (4 star rating resort hotel) is open and the North Star (basic motel) are open also.
