Nearing her one-year mark as executive director of the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood Education, Amy Neal laid out the office’s priorities during the April 29 meeting of the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Pre-school Coordinator Advisory Group (PCAG).

Kentucky is slated to receive just over $2 billion from a third round of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Most of that money will go directly to local school districts, but one-tenth is set aside for state-level use. From that set-aside, the Kentucky Department of Education is directing $75,000 a year toward supporting the expansion of the GSP as a summer enrichment and learning opportunity in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Like schools throughout the Commonwealth, the Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) in Louisville was excited to welcome students back to campus in March.
After nearly a year of virtual learning, students and staff returned to the Louisville campus for in-person instruction. But within a month, the school faced a problem. It was running low on masks.
The Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE) Office of Assessment and Accountability (OAA) is seeking current K-12 classroom teachers and content specialists who support teachers to participate in work related to the social studies state assessment.
KRS 158.6453 requires the department to implement a process to review Kentucky’s Academic Standards (KAS) and the alignment of corresponding assessments for possible revision or replacement. Current K-12 classroom teachers or content specialists that are interested in the state social studies assessment are needed. A pool of candidates is being gathered for this critical work and participants will be notified if accepted.
