Mechanical Design Engineer
A supplier to the UK and overseas military services for radio communication systems and several UK commercial businesses for mechanical and electrical calibration services.
Role Overview:
The role is to work within the Product Design Services group on the support of existing products in-service and design of new products for similar military applications; radio signal reception and signal conditioning; enclosures, antennas, mechanical fixings.
Qualifications and Experience
Degree qualified (BSc/BEng) or HNC/HND
Use of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Inventor and AutoCAD VAULT Professional; 2D/3D CAD software and document management
Design of mechanical enclosures, fixings and tooling for production of electrical equipment and antennas
Knowledge of marine and/or military environment requirements for equipment and materials (IP ratings, test methods etc.)
Experience with MS Office suite (Word/Excel)
Experience of commercial or military qualification processes would be advantageous (thermal, shock/vibration, FEA/FMECA etc.)
Key Activities:
Design, modelling and draughting of mechanical enclosures, fixings, antennas and components parts
Stress simulation (FEA) for shock/vibration analysis
Updating/importing historical drawings into CAD package
Selecting and managing sub-suppliers for manufacture of components, sub-assemblies and associated services
Translation of customer specifications into mechanical design requirements
Documentation of processes, procedures and specifications for manufacture both on-site and by sub-suppliers
Rigorous capture of technical data for product qualification
The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve working on UK classified programmes the candidate must therefore be willing and able to obtain a security clearance.
