Kentucky’s Commissioner of Education Jason E. Glass received a close-up look at how Nelson County Schools use purpose, place and people to empower students during a tour of the schools on Nov. 18 led by the Superintendent Wes Bradley and Director of Workforce Development Laura Arnold.
“Today’s visit was a good example of businesses, communities and schools working together to provide a highly immersive education experience for our students,” Glass said. “We have been really impressed with all of programs and how the community comes together to take care of all its kids.”

One of the best predictors of student success is the extent to which families are encouraging learning at home, Kathy Burkhardt, senior director of the Learning Grove and former superintendent of Erlanger-Elsmere Independent, told the Superintendents Advisory Council (SAC) during its Nov. 17 meeting.
Burkhardt joined the council for a discussion on the necessity of family engagement in Kentucky’s education system, as well as to share resources to boost family engagement within local communities.
Gov. Andy Beshear kicked off Family Engagement in Education Week at the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort on Nov. 15 by signing a proclamation designating it as a statewide celebration of families and schools.
Over the past several months, the Prichard Committee and its Kentucky Collaborative for Families and Schools have been working to coordinate a celebration of family engagement in public schools and early childhood centers. Numerous state and local organizations will celebrate Family Engagement in Education Week Nov. 15-19 with activities planned to encourage a renewed effort in school and family partnerships.
