Comments: Corporal Pendleton was a machine gunner with Company D, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. On July 17, 1953, he was defending his position against a determined counter attack by the enemy near Choo Gung-Dong, North Korea. After killing 15 enemy soldiers and disorganizing the remainder, he took an exposed position in order to deliver more accurate fire. Although wounded and his machine gun destroyed, he took a carbine and continued to defend his position until mortally wounded by a mortar burst. He grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and attended high school there.
