KDE to award $500,000 in Grow Your Own grants to 10 school districts today

Who:

  • Jason E. Glass, Ed.D., Commissioner of Education and Chief Learner
  • Jacqueline Coleman, Lieutenant Governor
  • Byron Darnall, Associate Commissioner
  • A superintendent from one of the districts receiving a grant

What:

Recognition of the 10 recipients of a $50,000 Grow-Your-Own program grant.

The GYO program is designed to recruit, develop and retain teachers who are already in the community. It draws from people who are connected to the school or community but may not have considered teaching or who need (or want) additional support to enter the profession. 

Recruitment of new teachers to the profession is vital to address significant teacher shortages and expand teacher workforce diversity in the state.
