The active compounds in this type of medical marijuana are present in the plants' roots. The oil extracted from the roots is more potent than that extracted from the stems, because it contains all of its chemical constituents. This is why CBD oil is not used alone as a treatment for epilepsy. It must be combined with a substance called Epicatechin Gallate, which helps in reducing seizures and in controlling the effects of dopamine in the central nervous system.

CBD oil is not as well known as other types of medical marijuana, but it has been used in medicine for quite some time now. Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a powerful phytocannabinoncannabinoid found in nature in tobacco plants and accounted for over 40% of the total plant's weight. In its raw form, it is not harmful to humans; however, it can be converted into an illegal drug, called cannabimimetic acid, by the liver. In addition, this acid is used to produce amphetamines.

CBD oil was only introduced in the United States some years ago, but it has become widely used in medical marijuana due to its many benefits. The most common benefit associated with CBD is relief of symptoms associated with anxiety, depression and seizures. However, it is believed that CBD oil can also be helpful in lowering blood pressure, cancer, glaucoma, nausea, arthritis and neurodegenerative diseases. A recent study by the University of Alabama found that CBD has very strong anti-inflammatory properties, as well.

The main reason why CBD oil has been seen as a cure for epilepsy is because it is very similar in structure to delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the psychoactive ingredient of marijuana. However, it is not the same as THC, the main psychoactive component found in marijuana, and is therefore not addictive. Studies have shown that when CBD is combined with another medicinal substance, CBD has strong antipsychotic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as being able to treat and prevent the seizure disorder epilepsy. CBD has recently been shown to increase brain levels of the brain chemicals dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin. which is why it is known to provide relief to patients suffering from epilepsy.

According to a report published in the Journal of Neurotherapy, "clinical studies in the last decade have shown that CBD offers the greatest potential for relief of symptoms associated with epilepsy in patients who are using medical marijuana." Another report published in the same journal, states that there are now studies showing CBD oil can "reduce both the frequency and severity" of seizures. This one from Gold Bee is believed to be effective in treating seizures and even seizures that occur "without any medical trigger."

Many people are afraid of smoking marijuana, but this herb has only positive benefits for the body when it is used as a medicine. Although it may be legal under some jurisdictions, it is not a recommended way to take marijuana for chronic illnesses. However, there are plenty of alternatives to using marijuana when other remedies are not working. When the health benefits are considered, CBD oil is definitely a safe and effective treatment option.
