Kalispel Tribe/Kalispel Case Line Becomes Latest Sponsor of NSSF’s Project ChildSafe®

NEWTOWN, Conn., and CUSICK, Wash. – The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association of the firearm industry, is pleased to announce that the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and its manufacturing company, Kalispel Case Line (KCL), have become a financial sponsor of NSSF’s Project ChildSafe® program.

“The Kalispel Tribe has always prioritized the safety of children, and this is a commitment we take seriously, “ said Curt Holmes, General Manager of Public and Government Affairs for the Kalispel Tribal Economic Authority. “We know home defense is important, but so is firearm security, and we see that philosophy as a perfect match with the mission and work of NSSF and Project ChildSafe.”

NSSF launched Project ChildSafe in 1999 as a nationwide initiative to promote firearms responsibility, provide safety education to all gun owners and help prevent firearm accidents, thefts and misuse.  As suicide prevention, especially among tribal communities, has garnered greater national attention, NSSF and Project ChildSafe have been working with several tribal organizations and tribal law enforcement agencies across the country to emphasize the importance of storing firearms securely.

“Kalispel Tribe and its Kalispel Case Line company, which manufactures cases specifically so firearms can be stored securely in the home when not in use, represent exactly the kind of strategic partnership that we know can help save lives,” says Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO and Chairman of the Project ChildSafe Foundation. “We’re so grateful for their support and really look forward to working with them.”

Project ChildSafe is funded by NSSF member companies and is also supported by the Project ChlidSafe Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity. The centerpieces of the program are its free firearm safety kits, which include a cable-style gun lock and safety brochure. To date, the program has distributed more than 40 million free gun locks through partnerships with more than 15,000 law enforcement agencies. In recent years, demand for the safety kits and program resources has surged, so donations, grants and corporate sponsorships from partners like the Kalispel Tribe and KCL help NSSF meet the demand.  More information on Project ChildSafe sponsorship opportunities can be found on the Project ChildSafe website.

About Project ChildSafe
NSSF, the trade association of the firearms industry, launched Project ChildSafe in 1999 (originally as Project HomeSafe). Since 1999, the program has provided more than 40 million free firearm safety kits and gun locks to firearm owners in all 50 states through partnerships with thousands of law enforcement agencies across the country. That’s in addition to the more than 70 million free locking devices manufacturers have included, and continue to include, with new firearms sold since 1998. While helping to prevent accidents among children is a focus, Project ChildSafe is intended to help adults practice greater firearm safety in the home. About the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and Kalispel Case Line
Once one of the poorest Native American tribes in the United States, the Kalispel Tribe of Indians is now one of the top private employers in the Spokane, WA, region. The historically humble and hospitable tribe also operates Northern Quest Resort & Casino, as well as several other enterprises. Revenue from these enterprises funds essential educational, health, and social service programs that have increased the quality and life expectancy for tribal members and surrounding communities near the tribe’s reservation along the Pend Oreille River in Usk, WA. The Kalispel Tribe is one of the top five private employers in the region employing over 1,500 team members across its government and business enterprises and has donated approximately $20 million to regional non-profits.
