April
Newsletter #3

Welcome to our new-style newsletter, featuring the first of several quizzes,
an SMG lockdown music story and a Zoom class in action. We also want to hear your music stories - scroll down and join in the fun!
TELL US YOUR LOCKDOWN MUSIC STORIES

We'd like to hear how your music's going! Many of our tutors are offering online learning in some form, and you may be meeting up with SMG musical friends informally online.

How are you finding online learning?
Are you singing or playing to (or with) your

neighbours?
Have you set yourself a musical challenge?

Tell us your lockdown music stories, and we'll feature them in our newsletters in the next few months. Keep them short (maximum 200 words) and include a photo if you can.

Send your stories to Helen at admin@scotsmusic.org
SARAH'S LOCKDOWN STORY

Tutor and Interim Development Worker Sarah Northcott has taken up a musical challenge! Here's her story:

At 8pm on Thursday nights down here in Tweedsmuir, folk have been out showing their appreciation for frontline workers by clapping and banging pots, and young Fergus has been playing his pipes across the valley (which is where he lives – we haven't banished him). As we're so spread out, some folk are even doing this on Zoom! One of my neighbours, who went to Andy Warren's SMG accordion class briefly many years ago, said that she'd been playing Scotland The Brave. I foolishly said that I'd join her...on accordion. We now meet, in a socially distant manner, at the crossroads (a very blues thing to do) and serenade our other neighbours, who are paramedics. I can pretty much play the left hand too if I don't think too hard. We're going to have a go at Fairy Dance this week – I'd better get on with my homework!
