The recipe for resilience

Have you dipped into your resilience pot over the last year and does it need topping up? Based on years of research in this field, psychologists have identified the key ingredients that contribute to resilience.  In this issue we take a look at the recipe. Why positive emotions actively help, and how unhelpful thinking styles can stand in the way of our resilience.

We have a variety of workshops running this March, including our increasingly popular Tree of Life and Monday Meditation, both useful ingredients to help build your resilience. And, if you want to go the extra mile to help your wellbeing this month, why not go an extra 78 miles and join our March 3 Marathon Challenge. Running not compulsory!

Resilience is a big topic and has also become a hot one, particularly as we draw from our own supply of resilience during lockdown.  But take a minute to think about what resilience is. Is it something we can learn? If so, what are the ingredients?

Known as unhelpful thinking styles, we offer some tips on how to deal with negative thoughts.
It's easy to let negative emotions get in the way, but our positive ones are a powerful ingredient for resilience.

Are you a parent who would like to understand more about children's mental health?  Maybe you'd like to join a weekly meditation group? Or just have a fun afternoon exploring the people and events that have contributed to who you are?

Each month we run a range of free, friendly workshops. Click here for more information and to book your place.

Step into spring

With the weather brightening and a roadmap out of lockdown announced, there has never been a better time to get outdoors and exercise. We're challenging you to take on 3 marathons (78.6 miles) across the month of March.

Walk, run or cycle and tackle the challenge at your own pace. Taking it steady, it is a commitment of around 5,800 steps per day (or 2 1/2 miles).

Census 2021

We've unearthed some interesting facts about this once in a decade event, including how a very famous local resident tried to avoid being counted in the 1841 census. Can you guess who and how?

The COVID-19 vaccine roll-out is now well underway with more than 17 million people in the UK having received at least one dose – part of the biggest inoculation programme the country has ever launched. Many of the staff at RB Mind have had their first jab. More information on the vaccine programme can be found here.

We all need emotional support, particularly during these difficult times. Feelings such as low mood, stress and anxiety can impact our mental health, and sometimes you just need to talk about it.
