6/30/20229:12 PMUntil Next Season...Season FinaleThe season finale is upon us. What a wonderful first season it has been! From the moment the curtain opened we were captivated by Rosa and Martin’s beauty and charm and so much more. How tirelessly they worked together no matter the weather to provide a safe and secure haven for their future little ones. Rain, sleet or snow didn’t stop them from getting the job done. They built a virtual fortress each stick diligently placed one upon the other with a thick bedding of grasses to keep all comfortable and warm. The interaction between our lovely couple warmed our hearts and tickled our funny bone time and time again. Who can forget Martin’s corncobs and how much he loved the nest bowl. And who can forget how patiently Rosa would sit by her handsome mate’s side knowing that eventually she too would get a chance to test out the bowl. How thrilled we were for them and for us when the first egg was laid and then the second. We were over the moon when DG1 hatched but sad when the second egg didn’t. DG2 didn’t make it out to see the world but the little one will forever be in our hearts. DG1 captured our hearts as well the minute we laid eyes on her/him. Such an adorable fuzzball with so much spirit and personality. We were instantly and completely head over heels. Could anything be any cuter. Rosa and Martin have been the most dedicated of parents. The care and devotion they have given to each other and their little one has warmed our hearts. Under their loving guidance, DG1 now the majestic Orion has matured in to a strong and confident eagle. We have every confidence that s/he’ll do well on her/his exciting journey ahead. Orion takes with her/him a piece of our hearts as we wish the little one safe passage. Fly high, stay safe and enjoy all the good things that life has to offer. You are so loved. It’s always bittersweet to say good-by but we do so with our hearts full of fond memories. Thanks to all of our faithful readers who followed along on this sweet family’s journey with us. It made this season all the more special because we could share it with you. As one season ends, another begins. We look forward to the next chapter of Rosa and Martin’s life. Until next season…

6/30/20225:53 PMOrionPerching/DepartureOur hearts are filled with joy when Orin returns to the nest at 5:53 pm. What a treat to have her/him spend some extra time with us on our last day of cams. Orion scans the skies and with a bob of her/his head flies over to the Cam perch at 5:56 pm. Our young beauty is very chatty this evening, sending out squee after squee after squee. Very chatty indeed. Music to our ears but we can only imagine what the neighbors think. 😊 Orion flies off from the nest at 7:54 pm.

6/30/20229:00 AMOrionPerching/In Nest/Eating/DepartureThis is the last day the cams will be streaming this season which makes it all the sweeter when we hear Orion’s sweet squees during the 9:00 am hour. How happy we are to hear her/him. To our delight we find Orion perched on a lower branch of the Snag tree just before s/he flies off towards the nest at 1:00 pm. We’re even more delighted to see her/him fly from the Cam perch to the nest at 1:05 pm. Orion rummages around and enjoys some “nestovers” before s/he moves up on the Take-off perch at 1:26 pm. S/he catches a few winks of sleep and enjoys the view before s/he hops back down in the nest and briefly lies down at 1:52 pm. Very briefly. S/he has more than a few more bites to eat before s/he flies off and disappears in the trees at 2:04 pm.
5
6/30/20227:17 AMRosaArrival/DepartureThe beauty of the morning is upon us with temperatures in the mid-sixties and sunny skies. The merry melodies of the songbirds surround us but not a squee do we hear. The lovely Rosa arrives and checks out the nest at 7:17 am before she flies off ever so quietly at 7:19 am. Will Orion stop by one last time before the curtain closes for the season or has the little one already flown off on her/his exciting journey? Time will tell…

6/29/20224:43 PMRosa, Martin & OrionPrey Delivery/Feeding/DepartureOrion lands in the nest and makes the catch when Martin arrives with a fish at 4:43 pm. Dad flies off leaving Orion to eat on her/his own but Mom arrives and feeds their little one at 6:03 pm. Nothing wrong with being spoiled from time to time. Rosa finishes feeding Orion and enjoys some herself before s/he flies off at 6:14 pm. Orion tracks Rosa’s flight and flies off her/himself just one minute later.
7
6/29/20228:29 AMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/Return/Self-feeding/DepartureOrion is out and about when Martin drops by with prey at 8:29 am. Martin leaves the fresh prey in the nest and flies off with an old leftover at 8:31 am. Such a wonderful Dad, always thinking about his little one. Orion doesn’t return until five hours later to claim her/his treat but claim it s/he does at 1:54 pm. S/he chills out in the nest after s/he gets her/his fill finally lying down at 2:50 pm. So sweet to see the little one still enjoying some time resting in the nest. S/he has a few more things to say after her/his nap before s/he flies off the nest at 3:46 pm.
8
6/29/20226:03 AMOrionOrion Delivers Prey For The First Time!Orion flies by the nest and back again before s/he lands with her/his own breakfast at 6:03 am! The milestone of all milestones! Way to go Orion! Bon appetit! Orion has a few bites of what appears to be a rodent and proudly holds it up for all the world to see. Orion, the hunter/huntress! We’re very proud of you little one. Catching your own prey is no easy feat but it makes it all the more sweeter. S/he takes her/his time relishing every tasty morsel until s/he gulps the last piece down at 6:28 am. S/he finds some leftovers to munch on before s/he flies off at 6:56 am.
9
6/28/20222:24 PMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/DepartureOrion’s vocalizes with excitement and heads towards the nest when Martin delivers prey at 2:24 pm. Orion circles around and appears to miss the landing pad at 2:26 pm. Martin peers over the side of the nest and apparently not all that concerned proceeds to have a bite to eat himself while Orion continues to express her/his annoyance. “Hey Dad, what about me!” Orion takes off again and lands neatly in the nest to claim the prize at 2:29 pm. Martin takes off himself while Orion enjoys this meal and a few other tasty choices around the nest. Orion catches a few winks of sleep and is still relaxing in the nest at 4:09 pm.
10
6/28/202212:15 PMParent & OrionVocalsIt’s a lovely sunny afternoon in the wetlands with temperatures in the mid-seventies and low humidity. A perfect day for one perfect fledgling to be out and about. Orion hasn’t been seen in the nest by this earlybird since s/he flew off last night but I did hear her/his sweet vocals early this morning. Orion sent out some calls during the 6:00 am hour and one of the parents did respond at 6:15 am. The Overhead cam is down due to a voltage issue so we’re not able check around to see if s/he’s nearby. So for now, we’ll enjoy the merry melodies of the songbirds while we watch and wait to see if Orion returns. Orion's sweet squees sing out with the songbirds at 12:28 pm. Music to our ears.
11
6/27/20228:40 PMRosaReturn/DepartureAll is peaceful and quiet when Rosa returns to the nest at 8:40 pm. She pulls a piece of prey behind the tree trunk and enjoys a leisurely meal at 8:40 pm. Apparently, she wants some privacy. She pulls another piece of prey behind the tree trunk and eats that as well at 8:44 pm. No sight or sound of Orion. It’s nice to see Rosa having some “me” time. Rosa gets her fill and checks out the sky from the Take-off perch before she flies off for the night at 8:54 pm.
12
6/27/20226:53 PMRosa & OrionPrey Delivery/Feeding/DepartureIt’s hard to believe that Orion can fit any more food in her/his crop but apparently s/he’s up to the challenge. Orion says bring it on when Rosa arrives with the fourth food delivery of the evening at 6:53 pm. Rosa does just that feeding Orion and herself before s/he flies off from the Take-off perch at 7:17 pm. Orion tracks Rosa’s flight before s/he flies off at 7:20 pm.
13
6/27/20224:00 PMMartin & OrionPrey Deliveries/Eating/DepartureOrion stops by the nest and finds some leftovers at 4:00 pm. S/he moves up on the Take-Off perch and takes in the scenery on this beautiful sunny afternoon at 4:33 pm. S/he appears so engrossed in the lovely view that s/he seems surprised when Martin lands in the nest with a prey delivery at 4:48 pm. Orion quickly pirouettes around on the perch and rushes to claim the prey. Martin rushes off himself but returns just over an hour later with another food delivery at 5:51 pm. Orion has no problem eating this food delivery as well just after Martin flies off again. Orion is still eating when Martin returns with food delivery number three at 6:04 pm. Martin has proven time and time again what a wonderful provider he is but today he’s outdone himself. Orion has a very full crop when s/he feaks her/his beak and steps over to the nestrails at 6:19 pm. Orion is still perched on those same nestrails at 6:36 pm. The little one may just be too full to fly after three supersized meals. Thanks Dad!
14
6/27/20225:40 AMOrionArrival/Perching/DepartureThe skies are cloudy with temperatures just in the low seventies when Orion makes her/his first appearance of the day at 5:40 am. S/he checks out the nest in search of some tasty tidbits before s/he flies off to the Snag tree at 5:51 am. Little does Orion know that a heron had flown off from the little one’s favorite perch just one hour before. As we have seen from their previous encounter, Orion doesn’t appreciate the heron’s company on the Snag. Orion prances and dances back and forth on the Snag tree before s/he flies out of view at 6:09 am. Orion announces her/his arrival when s/he returns to the nest at 6:37 am. S/he enjoys some "nestovers" before s/he flies off into the trees at 7:04 am.
15
6/26/20224:18 PMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/PerchingOrion follows right behind Martin when he arrives with a prey delivery at 4:18 pm. Apparently, Martin didn’t do his shopping at the landfill this time. Orion enjoys his meal after Martin flies off to the Snag tree. Orion flies of to the Snag tree at 5:17 pm after s/he gets her/his fill.
16
6/26/20229:48 AMOrionIn and Out of Nest/Perching/DepartureOrion stops by the nest for about a twenty-minute visit at 9:48 am. S/e rummages around for some tasty treats, pulls apart some of the food wrappings and flies off to the Snag tree at 10:14 am. Orion’s on and off of the Snag several times before s/he returns to the nest at 2:03 pm. S/he lies down and rests for awhile before s/he’s back out the door at 2:34 pm.
17
6/26/20225:37 AMOrionArrival/Perching/DepartureOrion flies through the skies and lands neatly on the Sentry perch at 5:37 pm. Nicely done little one. S/he checks out the nest and scans those same skies before s/he announces her/his departure and flies off to the Snag tree at 5:45 am. S/he returns to the nest at 6:51 am and finds some “nestovers” to munch on before s/he flies back out the door at 6:56 am.
18
6/25/20228:28 PMMartin & OrionFood Delivery/Return/DepartureMartin arrives in the nest with a plastic bag presumably with food in it at 8:28 pm. It appears that he too has been shopping at the landfill. Orion’s vocals can be heard in the distance but s/he doesn’t return until 8:32 pm just Martin flies off with the plastic bag in his talons at 8:31 pm. Orion doesn't appear at all pleased and has a few things to say about Dad taking the food before s/he flies off at 8:37 pm.
19
6/25/20221:48 PMRosa & OrionFood Delivery/Self-feeding/DepartureOrion spends some time relaxing in the nest at 1:48 pm perhaps hoping for a food delivery. That food delivery has yet to arrive when s/he flies over to the Snag tree at 2:15 pm. That food delivery is delivered by way of Rosa at 6:29 pm. She delivers what appears to be a ham to the nest at 6:29 pm. Sweet Mom stands over the ham waiting ever so patiently for her little one to come home for dinner but we hear not a squee. Rosa takes one bite maybe two and gets busy with some nest work at 6:55 am all the while checking the skies. Still not a sight or sound of Orion. Rosa waits for nearly an hour before s/he digs into the ham herself. S/he enjoys several bites before we hear the sweet sound of Orion’s squees. Rosa steps aside when Orion lands in the nest at 7:34 pm. Mom watches with almost a quizzical expression on her face as Orion mantles and puts on her/his mean face letting Mom know that this ham belongs to her/him. “Yes dear, I brought this for you.” Rosa, seeing that her help is not wanted moves up to the Take-Off perch and flies off at 7:48 pm. Orion gets her/his fill and flies off at 8:07 pm.
20
6/25/202210:11 AMParent & OrionPerching/DepartureOrion perches on the Snag tree for nearly two hours before s/he flies down to a lower branch at 10:11 am. All we can see are the fluttering of Orion's wings when a parent lands on the Snag tree at 10:13 am. Orion sends out a greeting to the parent or perhaps its her/his breakfast order before s/he flies off to the nest at 10:14 am. S/he lies down in the nest until 10:43 am while the parent continues to perch on the Snag tree. Unfortunately, we can’t identify the parent with certainty from this distance. The parent flies off just before Orion flies back to the Snag tree at 10:46 am. Orion flies off and disappears from view at 11:39 am.
21
6/25/20225:52 AMOrionArrival/Perching Orion circles the nest and sends out morning greetings when s/he lands on the siderails at 5:52 am. S/he appears to have a bite to eat, rearranges some sticks and sends out vocals over and over again. Mom! Dad! Breakfast! S/he proceeds to tear another food bag apart and continues with the vocals. Orion is very chatty this morning. All gets quiet when s/he disappears behind the tree trunk at 6:41 am. S/he flies over to the Snag tree at 8:13 am.
22
6/24/20221:31 PMMartin & OrionPrey Deliveries/Departure Martin returns to the nest with a food delivery at 1:31 pm just twenty minutes after the young visitor flies off. Martin hangs out at the nest waiting but Orion doesn’t come to claim the food. Martin flies off at 1:34 pm but returns with another food delivery at 2:08 pm. Orion is late to the party but finally flies over from the Snag tree and claims the food at 2:24 pm. Orion enjoys her/his meal and makes us smile when s/he catches up on her/his beauty sleep and rearranges the sticks that the visitor arranged earlier. Orion has a few things to say which is not at all unusual for the little one before s/he flies off to the Snag tree at 3:24 pm.
23
6/24/202212:00 PMEagle VisitorArrival/Eating/Nest Work/DepartureA young eagle who appears to be in her/his second year stops by to check out the accommodations at 12:00 pm. Lucky for this young beauty that the current occupants aren’t at home. They don’t usually welcome unexpected guests. The young eagle has the nerve to eat some of Orion’s “nestovers” and to rearrange some of Rosa and Martin’s sticks. The sticks are one thing but the corncobs are entirely another. Don’t even think about moving Martin’s prized corncobs. Martin would not be at all pleased. S/he stays in the nest for over an hour before s/he flies off as quietly as s/he arrived at 1:11 pm. Safe travels young beauty.
24
6/24/202210:02 AMRosa, Martin & OrionPrey Delivery/Perching/DepartureOrion flies off from the Snag tree in what sounds like excited anticipation at 10:02 am. S/he flies by again still sounding the vocals with a parent responding at 10:03 am. Five more minutes of squees before Orion lands in the nest at 10:08 am. “Where’s the food?!” Orion’s still in the nest when one parent lands high on the Snag tree and the other lands on a lower branch with the food. It appears rabbit is on the menu this morning. Orion quickly heads to the Snag, mantles the rabbit and tells the parent it’s time to go. The parent who I believe is Martin does just that at 10:10 am while Rosa remains perched above. Orion now has possession of the rabbit but almost loses it after Martin departs. S/he continues with the squees and doesn’t take a bite until after Rosa flies off from her perch at 10:23 am. Orion does get some good bites before s/he does lose the rabbit at 10:31 am. “Hare today, gone tomorrow”. The look on Orion’s face is priceless, perhaps it’s my bad joke or perhaps she can’t believe what just happened. S/he tells dad all about it when he returns to the Snag tree. He flies off at 10:39 am hopefully to pick up another delivery. Orion flies off at 11:11 am.
25
6/24/20228:03 AMOrionReturns/PerchingOrion returns to the nest and proceeds to tear up a plastic bag at 8:03 am. What’s up with that little one? I believe you and Mom pretty much cleaned out that bag of meat last evening. Orion pays little or no mind to me. S/he just continues tearing up the bag, much like plucking feathers off a bird. S/he does appear to find a few tidbits here and there before s/he makes her way over to the Cam perch, up on the Sunset branch and disappears behind Hideaway at 8:18 am. The scenic route. S/he stretches her lovely wings and flies off to the Snag tree at 9:01 am.
26
6/24/20225:55 AMOrionArrival/Perching/DepartureThe wetlands has a magical feeling to it this morning as the fog rolls in. A land of hopes and dreams where the future looks bright. The future does indeed look bright for the little one. How much Orion’s accomplished, how confident s/he’s become. The world is hers/his to take whenever s/he’s ready. Our young beauty sends out a greeting and lands nicely in the nest at 5:55 am. Orion’s landings have much improved. S/he checks around for some “nestovers” and gazes out at the foggy gray skies. Where to go? What to explore next? So many new sights and sounds to discover. The sun is smiling down on Orion when s/he gives us a nod and flies off to the Snag tree at 6:13 am. Orion enjoys some time on the Snag tree before s/he flies off at 7:16 am.
27
6/23/20227:01 PMRosa & OrionFood Delivery/Self-feeding/Feeding/DepartureRosa lands in the nest with a meal in a bag at 7:01 pm. Apparently s/he’s been shopping at the dumpster again. Her feisty youngster arrives just one minute later and aggressively mantles the meal. “This meal is mine”! Mom attempts to help her little one but quickly backs off when it becomes quite apparent that any and all assistance is not appreciated. She flies off after Orion lunges at her still in a mantling posture at 7:06 pm. Yes, I’d say that’s very apparent. Orion may be having second thoughts about that assistance. Tearing into a plastic bag with one’s beak isn’t as easy as it looks. It takes some work by Orion but eventually s/he’s able to enjoy what appears to be ground up meat. Rosa returns at 7:31 pm and gives Orion that assistance after all. She feeds her little one the rest of the ground meat before s/he flies off from the Take-Off perch at 7:49 pm. Such a sweet mom. Orion departs at 7:53 pm.
28
6/23/202210:54 AMMartin & OrionPrey Deliveries/Perching/DepartureOrion flies to the nest vocalizing with anticipation when Martin arrives in the nest with a food delivery at 10:54 am. Martin hightails it out of there after Orion lands nicely in the nest and claims her/his prize. S/he finishes up her/his meal and flies off at 11:15 am but returns to the nest apparently in search of leftovers at 1:02 pm. Orion rummages around for just about seven minutes before s/he’s back out the door at 1:09 pm. S/he spends some time on the Snag tree at 1:43 pm before s/he’s off again at 2:33 pm. Dad delivers more food to the nest at 3:11 pm and Orion is only too happy to claim this one too. Martin is only too happy to skedaddle out of there after Orion grabs his leg. Orion gets her/his fill and flies off in the direction of the Sunset perch at 4:03 pm. S/he returns to the nest again for another bite to eat at 6:23 pm and flies off at 6:42 pm.
29
6/23/20229:53 AMOrionArrival/Eating/Perching/DepartureOrion confidently soars through the cloudy gray skies and gracefully glides down to the nest with wondrous wings spread wide at 9:53 am. What a glorious sight it is. Each day we have with her/him is a gift. S/he rummages around in the nest appearing to still find some “nestovers” before s/he scans the same cloudy gray skies and flies off to the Snag tree at 10:14 am. Orion flies off from her/his perch at 10:45 am.
30
6/23/20225:41 AMOrionPerching/DepartureIt’s a damp and dismal morning but our smiles are bright when Orion flies by the nest and lands nearby at 5:41 am. Every minute we have with her/him now is extra special because we know it can be the last. What a joy this little one has brought to our lives. Orion has some one-sided conversation before s/he flies off to the Snag tree at 5:45 am. No sign of the Blue Heron this morning. Orion scans the skies from her/his perch, perhaps hoping for a food delivery coming her/his way soon. No sign of that delivery just yet. Orion may just have to take matters in her/his own talons. S/he dances back and forth with a flap of her/his wings, sends out a call and flies off at 6:28 am.
31
6/22/20226:59 PMOrion & HeronReturn/Eating/Perching/DepartureOrion stops in the nest to have a bite to eat at 6:59 pm. Rosa and Martin haven’t delivered any food to the nest as of yet today but Orion does appear to find some “nestovers” to munch on. S/he makes her/his way over to the Cam perch and off to the Snag tree at 7:22 pm. A Blue heron who is already perched on the Snag tree doesn’t sound at all pleased to see an eagle fly in to land as well. The heron raises her/his wings in a defensive mode complaining all the while when Orion flies just above her/him at 7:23 pm. The heron quickly moves down to lower accommodations while Orion smoothly lands on the perch no doubt feeling rather proud of her/himself. Nicely done little one. Rosa and Martin’s very brave eaglet flies off from the Snag at 7:24 pm, perhaps on her/his way to tell Mom and Dad all about her/his newest adventure.
32
6/22/202212:22 PMOrionReturn to Nest/DepartureOrion returns at 12:22 pm, rummages around in the nest and disappears behind the tree trunk at 12:27 pm. That lasts about one minute before s/he’s up and tearing apart one of the old meat wrappers at 12:28 pm. That lasts about one minute before s/he’s back behind the tree trunk. Five minutes later Orion lies down in the nest and is still lying there when rain moves in to the wetlands. S/he pops up at 1:01 pm, sends out a few calls and flies off to the Snag tree as the rain continues to fall. A nice refreshing shower on a hot day like this has to feel good. S/he flies off to the nest at 1:44 pm squeeing all the way as if s/he’s expecting a delivery. S/he scans the skies and continues to send out calls but no delivery is to be had. Orion picks at some bones and finds some scraps here and there along with a plastic meat package before s/he flies off at 2:14 pm.
33
6/22/20226:22 AMOrionArrival/Eating/Perching/DepartureThere are indeed still “nestovers” in the nest when Orion arrives at 6:22 am. He enjoys a good breakfast before he flies off to the Snag tree at 6:47 am. Orion flies off the Snag tree at 8:24 am.
34
6/21/20228:13 PMRosa, Martin & OrionPrey Deliveries/Self-feeding/DepartureThe sun is still illuminating the beautiful blue skies when Martin delivers a fish to the nest 8:13 pm. Orion’s vocals get louder and louder and louder until s/he too lands in the nest just seconds later. Martin flies off to the Snag tree after Orion mantles and claims the fish. Orion is still eating the fish when Rosa arrives with another prey delivery at 8:21 pm. Orion grabs Rosa’s foot but quickly realizes her/his mistake and mantles the prey. Rosa stays in the nest for just two minutes more before she flies off and joins Martin on the Snag tree while Orion enjoys this meal too. Martin remains on his perch when Rosa departs at 8:36 pm. There appear to be leftovers on the nest for breakfast when Orion gets her fill and flies off for the night 8:42 pm. Martin flies off of the Snag tree at 8:52 pm.
35
6/21/20227:39 AMRosa, Martin & OrionPerching/Prey Delivery/Self-feeding/DepartureOrion continues to chill on the Snag tree catching a few winks of sleep at 7:39 am. S/he hangs her/his foot off the branch in a relaxed position at 7:48 am showing us that s/he is indeed comfortable on her/his perch. How far you have come little one. S/he sends out vocals and flies to the center of the branch in a mantling posture but comes up empty taloned when a parent flies by at 8:25 am. Orion greets Martin with vocals when he lands on the Snag tree at 9:10 am. Martin flies off when Rosa lands on a branch high in the tree at 9:12 am. Dad returns with yet another food delivery for his little one at 9:21 am. Orion claims the food and enjoys her/his third meal of the morning after Martin flies off. Rosa keeps watch from her perch and is still there when Orion flies off at 9:31 am. Rosa flies off at 9:44 am.
36
6/21/20225:43 AMOrion & ParentPrey Deliveries/Perching/DepartureOrion flies by the nest and appears to land just out of cam view at 5:43 am. S/he sends out vocals still out of cam view and appears to fly off at 6:06 am. Orion’s vocals rise to a crescendo off in the distance at 6:25 am, a food delivery perhaps. We find our young beauty enjoying that food delivery on the Snag tree at 6:45 am. S/he finishes up this meal and is feaking her/his beak when a parent delivers a very fresh fish at 6:58 am. Orion dives right in and eats the still flopping fish like a champ after the parent flies off. It’s smooth sailing for about the next twenty minutes before this fish is off the hook at 7:21 am. Fish overboard! The look on Orion’s face is priceless as s/he gazes down below at the fish that got away. No worries little one. There are plenty more fish in the sea.
37
6/20/20229:28 AMRosa, Martin & OrionPerching/Self-feeding/DepartureOrion is found enjoying a fish on the Snag tree at 9:28 am. We’re not sure who made the delivery or when but Orion is doing a fine job eating it on the branch. S/he greets Martin with vocals when he arrives with a few vocals of his own at 9:43 am. Martin sends out vocals again at 9:47 am and just three minutes later we find the lovely Rosa perched on the same branch. How sweet to have the whole family together. Martin flies from his perch and disappears from view at 10:04 am while Rosa and Orion continue to perch on the Snag tree. What appears to be an eagle glides and soars through the beautiful baby blue skies at 10:13 am. Could this be Martin? Chances are it is! Rosa would most likely be sending out warning vocals if it was any other eagle. What a treat for us to see the beauty of Martin in the sky. Rosa flies off from the Snag tree at 11:43 am. Orion is off at 12:30 pm.
38
6/20/20227:57 AMRosa & OrionArrival/Feeding/Self-feeding/DepartureOrion is still eating when Rosa arrives and offers her assistance at 7:57 am. Orion enjoys some of the bites that Mom offers and takes a piece and then another to munch on her/himself. Mom continues to feed her little one and enjoys some bites herself while Orion continues to eat some pieces on her/his own. Rosa tidies up the fluff before she flies off from the Take-off perch at 8:24 am. Orion flies off from the nest at 8:28 am.
39
6/20/20225:36 AMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/Self-feeding/DepartureOrion arrives in the nest with a beautiful landing at 5:36 am. Nicely done little one. S/he rummages around in the nest, sends out some calls and flies off to the Snag tree at 5:46 am. Orion quickly returns to the nest with excited vocals after Martin delivers what appears to be a rabbit at 6:37 am. Martin flies off to the Snag tree while Orion enjoys her/his breakfast. Orion is still enjoying her/his breakfast when Martin flies off the Snag tree and disappears from view at 6:47 am.

6/19/20224:55 PMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/DepartureOrion has spent much of the day off of the nest. The foliage is now so lush and thick that it can sometimes be a challenge to find her/him. Our amazing cam op does find our young explorer high in a tree at 4:55 pm. S/he’s hidden behind the leaves but thanks to the wind we do get a peek every now and again. Orion sends out excited vocals and attempts to land in the nest after Martin delivers an evening meal at 6:16 pm. S/he flies into the side of the nest and down with indignant squees at 6:17 pm. Martin, obviously deciding that a good meal shouldn’t go to waste eats the prey himself before he flies off at 6:23 pm. It is his special day after all. Happy Father’s Day Martin and to all of our other wonderful dads.

6/19/202211:41 AMOrionReturn/Perching/DepartureOrion returns to the nest on this breezy but pleasant afternoon at 11:41 am. S/he lies down and disappears behind the tree trunk at 11:53 am. How sweet to see her/him still enjoying the comforts of the nest. S/he pops up at 12:23 pm, scans the sky and steps up on the Sentry branch at 12:27 pm. The view is so much better up here. S/he returns to the nest and chills out for a bit more before s/he flies off at 1:07 pm.
42
6/19/20227:51 AMOrionReturn/Eating/DepartureOrion returns to the nest and gets busy once again with the morning chores at 7:51 am. S/he rearranges a few more sticks and enjoys some more “nestovers” before s/he flies back out the door at 8:09 am.
43
6/19/20225:34 AMOrionArrival/Eating/DepartureOrion lands on the edge and hops in the nest at 5:34 am. S/he rummages around and appears to find some “nestovers” to munch on before s/he flies off at 5:53 am. A short but sweet visit. So happy to see the little one still visiting the nest.
44
6/18/20227:00 PMOrionReturn/Eating/DepartureOrion has been out and about most of the day, no doubt enjoying the very pleasant temperatures. We hear her/his sweet vocals several times before s/he stops by for a snack at 7:00 pm. S/he tidies up some sticks after s/he gets her/his fill and flies off with the wind at 7:34 pm.
45
6/18/20227:06 AMRosa & OrionReturn/DepartureRosa returns to the nest with what appears to be another stick at 7:06 am. Orion follows right behind her and mantles over something. The stick? Food? None of the above? Unfortunately, all of this is done behind the big tree trunk so we really don’t know. What we do know is that Rosa flies off from the Take-Off perch at 7:08 am. Orion appears to be eating something before s/he flies off at 7:12 am.
46
6/18/20225:51 AMRosa & OrionArrival/Nest Work/Eating/DepartureWhat a beautiful morning it is with temperatures just in the mid-sixties and the sky in layers of lavender when Rosa arrives with a stick at 5:51 am. She twirls around with her stick, places it on the siderails and stops to eat some “nestovers”. Orion’s vocals are heard out of cam view along with what sounds like a landing nearby at 5:52 am. Orion’s indignant squees continue as well as some rustling in the leaves before s/he manages to make her/his way up to the nest at 5:55 am. Orion eats some leftovers her/himself after Rosa hightails it out of there at 5:56 am. Orion’s vocals resume at 6:01 am and build in intensity until s/he flies off still squeeing at 6:11 am. Unfortunately, the Overhead cam has been powered down so we’re not able to follow Orion but we can clearly hear her/his sweet squees again and again and again. S/he returns to the nest still chatty at 6:32 am. Orion flies off again at 6:47 am.
47
6/17/20222:08 PMRosa & OrionPrey Delivery/Self-feeding/DepartureOrion flies out from the trees and heads towards the nest at 2:08 pm. S/he doesn’t stop in the nest but we hear her/his vocals loud and clear so perhaps s/he’s perched somewhere on the nest tree. S/he flies off and away just three minutes later but returns and lands in the nest at 2:31 pm. Orion enjoys some of the leftovers and is still eating when Rosa arrives with a fish at 2:41 pm. By the looks of her dirty head Rosa, may have caught Orion’s fish in a muddy fishing hole. A moist towette may be in order before she meets up with her handsome mate. She flies off at 3:01 pm, perhaps to get that moist towette while Orion enjoys the fish.
48
6/17/202211:02 AMOrion & ParentPrey Delivery/DepartureOrion continues to perch on the Snag tree, waiting for a food delivery, perhaps. That food delivery does materialize by way of a parent at 11:02 am. We’re not able to tell which parent makes the delivery or even what the delivery is but Orion quickly mantles something and is eating it after the parent flies off. I think we can surmise with great confidence that it was indeed a food delivery. The good news is that Orion does get a few bites, the not so good news is that s/he drops it after just those few bites. Apparently eating on a branch is not as easy as it seems but no worries for the little one. S/he will accomplish this milestone with just a little more practice and s/he did already have a good breakfast. Orion flies off from the Snag tree at 11:06 am.
49
6/17/20226:54 AMOrionPerching/Return to Nest/Self-feedingWe find Orion romping around on the Snag tree at 6:54 am. Orion snaps at the bugs that appear to be a bit of a bother before s/he flies off at 7:05 am. Orion sends out vocals before s/he returns to the nest at 7:39 am and enjoys some of the opossum and the fish as well. S/he flies back to the Snag tree with a nice full crop at 8:12 am.
50
6/17/20226:06 AMOrionArrival/Self-feeding/DepartureIt’s a lovely morning in the wetlands with temperatures just in the seventies and sunny skies. The trees are in shades of iridescent greens, the sky in aqua blues when Orion arrives, her/his feathers all aglow from the sun at 6:06 am. S/he doesn’t hesitate but steps straight to the pantry and enjoys some of the “nestovers” from the day before. S/he gets her/his fill and gives us a nod before s/he flies off to start her/his day at 6:27 am.
51
6/16/20224:00 PMOrionPerching/Return to Nest/DepartureOrion is on the Snag tree when thunderstorms move through the wetlands during the 4:00 pm hour. S/he hops up with a flap of her/his wings at 4:21 pm and promptly misses the landing on the way down. Our fearless fledgling disappears from view but reappears on the Snag tree after the sun returns at 6:25 pm. S/he sends out some vocals and flies off in the direction of the nest at 6:28 pm. We hear what sounds like a landing of some sort but not the right sort. It appears that Orion has misjudged the landing. No worries for the little one. S/he makes her/his way up and on to the Cam perch before s/he flies over to the nest at 6:44 pm. S/he has some of the opossum from this morning’s delivery and some bites of each of the fish as well before s/he flies back to the Snag tree at 7:07 pm. Orion enjoys some time on the Snag tree before s/he flies off into the trees at 8:12 pm.
52
6/16/202210:07 AMRosa & OrionPerching/DepartureRosa and Orion continue to perch on the Snag tree at 10:07 am. So cute to see Orion hanging one foot off her/his perch appearing very relaxed and at ease. Orion remains on the perch when Rosa flies off at 10:19 am. Orion stays here for close to two hours more before s/he flies out of view at 12:01 pm.
53
6/16/20229:27 AMRosa & OrionFeeding/Self-feedingRosa flies down to join Orion at 9:27 am after s/he steps away from the rabbit. How sweet to see Mom feed her little one and how sweet to see Orion happily accept the bites. Orion enjoys a nice feeding from Rosa and enjoys a piece on her/his own at 9:33 am. Rosa continues offering bites to Orion all the while s/he’s eating on her/his own and that appears to be just fine with Orion.
54
6/16/20228:35 AMRosa, Martin & OrionPrey Delivery/Departure/PerchingOrion continues to quietly perch on the Snag tree at 8:35 am. The quiet lasts just five minutes more before Orion greets Martin with excited vocals at 8:40 am. Martin has delivered again. Rabbit is on the menu this time. Martin flies off when Orion finally steps over to the rabbit and mantles at 8:45 am. Orion tries a few bites and sends out some calls to Rosa who we find perched high in the Snag tree at 8:56 am.
55
6/16/20225:54 AMRosa, Martin & OrionPrey Deliveries/Self-feeding/DeparturesOrion arrives in the nest and enjoys some “nestovers” at 5:54 am. S/he announces her/his departure and flies off to the Snag tree at 6:11 am. How amazing to see Martin deliver a fish to Orion while s/he’s still perched on the Snag at 6:32 am. Orion attempts to make the catch but isn’t able to reel it in. Apparently, this fish is off the hook, or is it? Orion slips off of her/his perch but pulls her/himself back up with her/his talons after Martin flies off. It’s hard to know for sure if Martin held on to his catch of the morning but he does return to the Snag tree with a fish after Orion flies back to the nest at 6:40 am. Orion is only too happy to take this fish off Martin’s talons when he delivers it to the nest at 6:45 am. No sooner does Martin fly off than Rosa flies in with an opossum at 6:48 am. No sooner does Rosa fly off than Martin returns with another fish at 6:55 am. Orion enjoys her/his “surf and turf” meal before s/he flies back to the Snag tree at 7:13 am. What a wonderful morning for the little one.
56
6/15/20222:04 PMOrionPerching/DepartureOrion, now with a nice full crop flies over to the Cam perch at 2:04 pm. S/he gazes out at the scenery appearing very relaxed and content while we gaze at her/him feeling just as relaxed and content. Much to our delight our young beauty perches here for over three hours before s/he flies over to the Snag tree at 5:44 pm. S/he appears just as content here before s/he flies off into the trees at 6:05 pm.
57
6/15/202212:51 PMRosa & OrionPerching/Prey Delivery/Self-feeding/DepartureAll we can see are Orion’s talons when s/he lands on Sunset branch at 12:51 pm. My, what big talons you have little one. S/he uses those very large talons to land in the nest after Rosa delivers a fish at 1:06 pm. S/he also uses those very large talons to hold down the fish when s/he chows down after Rosa departs at 1:08 pm.
58
6/15/202212:07 PMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/Departure/Vocals The sweet sounds of the songbirds greet Martin when he returns with yet another fish for Orion at 12:07 pm. Not an eagle squee do we hear. Martin lays the fish aside and takes care of some nest chores periodically checking out the sky. Where is the little one? Lunch is waiting. Martin flies off with the fish in his beak at 12:19 pm and that’s when the vocals begin. Orion squees continue on and on and on and on until 12:35 pm. Did Orion catch up with Dad and his second catch of the day? We sure hope so.
59
6/15/20227:12 AMOrionSelf-feeding/DepartureOrion cleans her/his beak with some feaking before s/he has a second helping of the fish at 7:12 am. S/he gets her/his fill with leftovers still remaining of this supersized fish at 7:17 am. Orion, now with a lovely full crop, feaks her/his beak one more time, scans the skies and flies off at 7:22 am.
60
6/15/20226:02 AMMartin & OrionArrival/Prey Delivery/Departure/Self-feedingThe sun is shining and our smiles are bright when Orion arrives in the nest at 6:02 am. S/he sends out a call and maybe a few more before Martin arrives with his catch of the day at 6:04 am. Orion dives in to the fish and enjoys a hearty “breakfish” after Martin flies off the nest.
61
6/14/20228:12 PMRosa & OrionPerching/DepartureOrion has quite a temper tantrum when s/he finds Rosa on the Snag tree. The little one expresses her/his annoyance and grabs her foot. “Where’s the food Mom”? Rosa claims back her foot and hightails it out of there at 8:12 pm. Orion still vocalizing flies off at 8:14 pm.
62
6/14/20225:55 PMRosa, Martin & OrionPerchingOrion hasn’t been in the nest for most of the day which is not at all unusual for a fledgling. We get a quick glimpse of Martin when he flies off of the Snag tree at 5:55 pm and we hear Orion vocalizing from an undisclosed location when Martin returns to the Snag tree just before the 7:00 pm hour. Martin spends more than thirty minutes on his perch cooling himself down with his wings spread out like Batman. Such a handsome eagle. Rosa arrives on the Snag tree herself after Martin flies off at 7:37 pm. Orion’s vocals continue until s/he comes out from her/his undisclosed location at 7:58 pm. Apparently s/he was high up on Skybox perch. Orion rummages around and finds some “nestovers” to snack on sending some squees along the way before s/he makes her/his way over to the Cam perch and flies off to the Snag tree at 8:11 pm.
63
6/14/20229:33 AMRosa, Martin & OrionPrey DeliveryOrion’s excited vocals sing out from the wetlands when Martin lands in the nest with a duckling at 9:33 am. Dad patiently waits in the nest for his little one who is apparently having trouble getting to the nest. Orion’s vocals continue when s/he lands nearby but we have yet to see her/him at 9:36 am. It takes two minutes more before we see Orion hanging on to the side of the nest at 9:38 am. S/he climbs her/his way up and claims the duckling after Martin flies of from the nest. Orion finishes eating the duckling and is feaking her/his beak when Rosa arrives at 10:01 am. Rosa heads for higher ground after her very vocal and very feisty eaglet grabs at her feet. She flies off after it becomes apparent that her help is not needed. Orion flies off still squeeing at 10:04 am.
64
6/14/20227:28 AMOrionLanding Attempt/Perching/DepartureOrion returns to the nest and attempts to land on the Sentry perch at 7:28 am. Landings can be a challenge and this one was sure a challenge for Orion. S/he misses the perch and flutters down towards the ground and disappears from view. S/he reappears at 8:07 am when s/he lands beautifully on the Snag tree at 8:07 am. Nicely done little one. Orion scans the skies, sends out a call and flies off at 8:19 am.
65
6/14/20226:22 AMOrionArrival/DepartureOrion’s vocals are heard several times before s/he lands in the nest at 6:22 am. A much-improved landing from the day before. S/he rummages around and finds the well picked bone from days before and attempts to get a little something more off of it at 6:24 am. There was only one food delivery to the nest yesterday and that was well before Orion arrived but s/he may have been fed by Mom or Dad out of cam view. It’s very typical for parents to feed their fledglings away from the nest to prepare them for their future journey. Orion preens her/his lovely feathers, scans the cloudy skies and flies off at 6:32 am.
66
6/13/20227:50 PMMartin & OrionFly-In/PerchingThe winds have picked up in the wetlands when Orion’s vocals are heard off in the distance at 7:50 pm. They get louder and louder as s/he gets closer and closer to the nest. Orion attempts to land but doesn’t quite make it in the nest. S/he clings to the side for only seconds before s/he falls downward and lands on a branch well below. The indignity of it all. Blame it on the wind little one. S/he flies off from her/his perch and disappears in the foliage at 7:53 pm. We’re not sure where the little one flew off to but we do find Dad perched on the Snag tree at 8:42 pm. Martin continues to perch on the Snag fully tucked at 9:38 pm.
67
6/13/20203:04 PMOrionPerchingIt’s a hot and humid afternoon with temperatures close to ninety degrees. Orion spreads her/his wings out like an angel in an attempt to cool her/himself down as s/he continues to perch on the Snag tree at 3:04 pm. What a lovely young eagle Orion has become. S/he swoops down off her/his perch at 3:19 pm and flies out of view. Our young beauty doesn’t land in the nest but we do hear her/his vocals during the 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm hour. Where are you hiding little one? Aha! Our cam op finds Orion hiding behind the foliage at 6:04 pm. Orion perches here just seven minutes more before s/he flies off to the Snag tree at 6:11 pm. And s/he's off again at 6:17 pm.
68
6/13/202211:07 AMOrionPerching/Orion looking more than adorable enjoys a nap and is ready to get on with her/his adventures at 11:07 am. S/he takes the scenic route once again making her/his way over to the Cam perch and up to Sunset branch before disappearing behind Hideaway and flying off to the Snag tree at 11:17 am. S/he spends almost an hour perched on the Snag before s/he flies off to parts unknown at 12:15 pm. We hear Orion’s vocals and what sounds like an awkward landing out of cam view before s/he returns to the nest with an almost perfect landing at 1:49 pm. S/he sends out vocals from time to time while s/he rests in the nest until 2:15 pm. Our young fledgling moves up on the Take-Off perch and down to the nest again before s/he flies back to the Snag tree at 2:42 pm.
69
6/13/20228:33 AMRosa & OrionDeparture/ArrivalIt’s been a long morning without Orion but we’ve had the lovely Rosa to keep us company. Mom has spent nearly two hours on the Snag tree, perhaps she too is waiting for her little one. Orion puts a smile on all of our faces when s/he misjudges the landing and climbs up the side of the nest just after Rosa flies off at 8:33 am. Nice recovery little one. How happy we are to see you still in the wetlands. Our young explorer explores around the nest looking for some “nestovers” to munch on before s/he lies down and gets comfortable in the nest. She amuses her/himself with the fluff at 8:46 am and gazes around out the wetlands as her/his eyes get heavier and heavier. There’s no place like home.
70
6/13/20226:36 AMRosa & MartinPrey Delivery/Perching/DepartureIt’s a beautiful sunny morning with temperatures hovering just around seventy degrees when Martin lands in the nest with a duckling grasped in his talons at 6:36 am. He takes care of some morning chores and flies off with said duckling in his beak at 6:45 am. Rosa lands on the Take-Off perch not two minutes later at 6:47 am. She too takes care of some morning chores before she flies off at 6:52 am. Both Rosa and Martin are found perched on the Snag tree at 6:58 am. Martin flies off and disappears in the trees while Rosa remains on her perch at 7:00 am. No sign of Orion yet this morning.
71
6/12/20226:33 PMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/Return/Self-feeding/DepartureWe’ve been hearing Orion’s squees off and on throughout the afternoon but we have yet to find her/him. Orion has become quite good at the game of Hide and Seek. What will bring the little one out of hiding. Food, of course. Orion’s vocals reverberate throughout the wetlands when Martin lands in the nest with a fish at 6:33 pm. Orion flies in from her/his undisclosed location and makes the catch at 6:34 pm. Martin flies off while Orion dives in and appears to enjoy every juicy bite of the fish before s/he flies over to the Cam perch at 7:26 pm. S/he follows the same path that s/he did earlier, moving from the Cam perch to Sunset Perch and disappearing to her/his undisclosed location at 7:35 pm. Apparently it’s somewhere very close by. Orion doesn’t sound at all pleased when Martin returns to the nest at 7:37 pm and rummages around for some ‘nestovers”. Orion flies back to the nest with vocals loud and shoos dad right out of there. The little one is feeling her/his oats. What a feisty young eagle. Orion continues with the squees after Martin flies off and flies off her/himself at 7:40 pm.
72
6/12/202211:20 AMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/PerchingOrion quickly joins Martin with vocals of delight when he lands in the nest at 11:20 am. Martin has arrived with his second food delivery of the day. Martin hightails it out of there after Orion claims what appears to be another duckling. Orion finishes up this meal and flies off to the Cam perch, over to Sunset branch and out of view at 12:06 pm.
73
6/12/20229:29 AMMartin & OrionReturn/Prey Delivery/PerchingOrion flies towards the cam as s/he heads back to the nest with just a slight detour at 9:29 am. What a beautiful fly in. S/he lands below the nest but quickly recovers and returns to the nest like a champ. Our frequent flyer is lying in the nest when Martin delivers a duckling and flies off at 9:43 am. Orion finishes her/his meal, moves up on the Take-Off perch at 10:01 am, returns to the nest at 10:04 am, makes her/his way over to the Veranda at 10:05 am, flies to the Cam perch and over to Sunset and out of sight at 10:12 am. The Energizer “Eaglet”. 😊 “Keeps going and going…”
74
6/12/20227:39 AMRosa & OrionArrival/Nest Work/Perching/DepartureRosa is the first to arrive in the nest on this early Sunday morning. She lands with a stick at 7:39 am, checks around for any tidbits to munch on and aerates the fluff. S/he rediscovers the bare bone from days before and once again tries to find some meat on it and once again appears to have no success. The lovely Rosa flies off to the Snag tree at 7:42 am just before her precious Orion lands on the Cam perch at 7:46 am. Orion makes her/his presence known with vocals and continues with the one-sided conversation after s/he flies over to the nest at 7:50 am. S/he amuses her/himself with the nesting material and rearranges a few sticks before s/he hops up on the branch leading to Take-Off at 8:12 am. S/he continues to send out a call, presumably her/his breakfast order before s/he flies off at 8:24 am.
75
6/11/20225:59 PMOrion/ParentPerching/Returns to Nest/DepartureOrion has been out and about for much of the afternoon. Our cam op extraordinaire finds Orion on the Snag tree having a blast at 5:59 pm. So cute to see the little one prancing and dancing and hopping from branch to branch seemingly without a care in the world. The sheer joy of it all. What a smile it puts on our faces to see him/her so full of fun. Orion has a few things to say to a parent when he or she flies by at 6:08 pm. Rosa and Martin’s energetic youngster flies back to the nest at 6:37 pm. Apparently, a little rest is in order after all of that excitement. Now well-rested, Orion sends out a call and flies off the nest, perhaps to join mom and dad at 7:52 pm.
76
6/11/20222:36 PMRosaReturn/Nest Work/DepartureIt’s been a quiet afternoon with no sign of Orion since s/he flew off at 11:01 am. Oh what fun s/he must be having. We can’t wait to hear all about it when s/he returns. Rosa does return with a stick at 2:36 pm. S/he eats a few leftover snacks, tidies up the nest and flies off from the Take-Off perch at 2:43 pm.
77
6/11/202210:21 AMRosa, Martin & OrionPrey Deliveries/Self-feeding/DeparturesTo Orion’s delight Dad returns with breakfast at 10:21 am. This time Orion is here to eat it. Martin flies back out the door after Orion mantles and claims the prey. Orion enjoys her/his meal and is tidying up some sticks when Rosa arrives with another delivery at 10:42 am. Orion mantles and inadvertently grabs Rosa’s foot but quickly recovers to claim the food. Rosa appears to want to help Orion with the feeding but Orion makes it clear that s/he’s not in the mood to share. Rosa moves up on the Take-Off perch taking the old bone along with her. She, too attempts to pull some morsels off the bone without much success while Orion continues to guard her/his new delivery. Rosa flies off at 10:52 am and gives Orion the space s/he needs to enjoy her/his meal. Orion finishes up said meal and flies off at 11:01 am.
78
6/11/20229;51amOrionReturnOrion, perhaps deciding to take matters in to her/his own talons flies off at 9:51 am. Look out Dad, here I come. S/he returns with excited squees and scans the skies as if s/he might be expecting a delivery at 10:01 am. That delivery doesn’t come. Orion rummages around in the nest, tries again to get some bites off that bare bone and lies down at 10:05 am. S/he continues to send out intermittent calls from the comfort of the nest at 10:20 am.
79
6/11/20229:11 AMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/Departure/ReturnDad rustles up that breakfast at 9:11 am. He delivers a duck to the nest but Orion is elsewhere. Martin removes some of the feathers and flies off with the duck at 9:17 am, perhaps to entice Orion back to the nest to eat. Or perhaps not. We can hear Orion’s excited vocals after Martin flies off and Orion does return to the nest at 9:24 am but Martin does not. What’s up with that dad? Orion rummages around in the nest looking for “nestovers” before s/he lies down at 9:28 am.
80
6/11/20225:39 AMOrionArrival/DepartureThe nest stands empty again this morning. Orion’s vocals are heard at 5:39 am just before rain moves in to the wetlands but s/he has yet to arrive. What appears to be a Great Crested Flycatcher does stop by to gather some fluff for its own nest at 8:24 am. Always nice to have a feathered friend stop by even if its not an eagle. Orion makes her/his first appearance of the day at 8:41 am. S/he lands in the nest and announces her/his arrival before checking around for leftovers. There doesn’t seem to be much of anything left except for the bone from yesterday that appears to be picked clean. Orion attempts to pull a few morsels from it but doesn’t have much success. S/he moves up on the Take-Off branch, surveys the area, moves back to the nest and flies off at 8:48 am. Time to go find mom and dad. Hopefully they can rustle up some breakfast for her/him.
81
6/10/20223:38 PMRosa & OrionPrey Delivery/Self-feeding/Feeding/DepartureOrion returns and moves up on the Take-Off perch to enjoy the view at 3:38 pm. What a beautiful view it is. Apparently, a change of scenery is in order at 4:27 pm. Orion makes her way back down to the nest, over to the Cam perch and off to the Snag tree at 4:29 pm. Rosa arrives to an empty nest with food at 6:19 pm. Sweet Mama scans the skies but Orion is no where to be seen. Rosa tidies up the fluff and checks out that empty sky again and again but still no sign of Orion. S/he eats some meat off of the big bone that s/he delivered but leaves a nice big portion for Orion. S/he continues to check out the sky but not a squee is heard. “Where is that eaglet”? We’re beginning to wonder that too. Every day, every minute, every second we have with Orion is a gift. S/he could fly off at any time now…but today is not the day. Precious Orion announces her/his arrival and clumsily lands on the side of the nest but manages to climb her/his way up at 7:00 pm. Rosa steps away and moves up on the Take-Off perch after Orion mantles and claims the food. Mom watches Orion while s/he’s eating eventually joining her little one in the nest at 7:44 pm. Rosa feeds some bites to Orion and herself as well before s/he flies off at 7:55 pm with Orion following soon after.
82
6/10/20228:40 AMMartin & OrionReturn/Prey Deliveries/Self-feeding/DepartureOrion flies off from the Snag tree and disappears behind the foliage at 8:40 am S/he reappears in the nest at 8:52 am. Our young eagle lies down and amuses her/himself and us with some leaves and rests up for her/his next adventure. S/he flies off for just that adventure at 9:49 am. See you when you get back little one. Orion gets back just before Martin delivers what appears to be chicken skin and gets bit on the foot for his trouble at 11:25 am. Orion can get just a wee bit overexcited sometimes when it comes to claiming the food. Martin with talons still intact flies off while Orion enjoys her/his meal. Orion lies down for some rest time and is still lying down when Martin returns with a duck at 12:49 pm for Orion’s dining pleasure. Martin skedaddles out of there as fast as his talons will take him after Orion claims the duck. Orion spends some time on the Take -Off perch after s/he gets her/his fill before flying off at 2:27 pm.

6/10/20226:50 AMRosa & OrionPerching/Fly OffWe find Orion on the Snag tree along with Rosa at 6:50 am. Rosa looks down from her perch high on the tree while Orion chatters on from her/his perch low on the tree. We can only imagine what Rosa’s thinking and what Orion’s saying as the little one continues with the one-sided conversation. “Mom, I want breakfast” would be my guess. Rosa is still on her perch when Orion flies off from her/his perch at 7:00 am. Orion intermittently sends out vocals so we know s/he’s not far away but we have yet to find her/him at 7:30 am. Aha! Our cam op finds Orion perched on a much lower branch at 7:40 am. S/he flies off, circles around and lands back on her/his original perch just after Rosa flies off at 7:43 am.

5:44 AMOrionPerching/Arrival/DepartureOrion flies off from Sunset branch with the wind at his/her back at 5:14 pm. How lovely to see her/him fly so confidently over Goose Creek at 5:15 pm. Our young beauty disappears from cam view but we soon find her/him again perched on the Snag tree with her/his wings spread out like an angel to cool her/himself off. Rosa and Martin’s angel enjoys a nice long visit on the Snag before s/he bobs her/his head this way and that and flies off at 8:01 pm to find a comfortable place to sleep for the night. Orion announces her/his arrival and returns to the nest at 5:44 am on this early Friday morning. S/he spends some time resting and amusing her/himself with some nesting material before s/he flies off for new adventurers at 6:16 am.

6/9/20222:32 PMRosa, Martin & OrionReturn/Prey Delivery/DepartureOrion returns at 2:32 pm, checks out the nest and lies down for some rest time at 2:35 pm. Apparently, Orion has had another busy day. S/he’s only too happy to get up and greet Martin with happy squees when he arrives at 3:13 pm. Dad has delivered a fish for his little one. Martin quickly scrambles out of there after Orion claims the fish. Orion just as quickly digs into the fish after Martin departs. S/he gulps down the last of the fish just before Rosa arrives at 3:32 pm. The fish is gone but sweet Rosa does find some leftover tidbits to feed her little one before s/he flies off at 3:36 pm. Orion makes her/his way up on the Take-Off branch and checks out the view before she returns to lie down in the nest at 3:54 pm.

6/9/20227:30 AMOrionPerchingOrion continues basking in the late morning sun on the Take-Off perch at 7:30 am. S/he catches a few extra winks of sleep looking radiant with the golden rays of the sun just touching the tips of her/his wondrous wings. Apparently, a change of scenery is in order at 7:43 am. Our golden beauty returns to the nest, flies over to the Cam perch, makes her/his way up on Sunset branch and disappears behind the Hideaway branch at 7:46 am.

6/9/20226:14 AMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/Self-feeding/DepartureThere were storms again last night but Martin brings the sun with him when he delivers a fish at 6:14 am. He looks and he listens as do we but no sign of Orion. It’s much too quiet, not a squee from Orion do we hear. Orion hasn’t been seen in the nest since s/he flew off last night just before the 8:00 pm hour so apparently s/he had a sleepover elsewhere. Rosa and Martin’s budding fledgling is branching out in more ways than one. Martin sets the fish aside and gets busy with the morning chores, aerating the fluff and rearranging some sticks. He appears to be tracking something at 6:28 am but we see no sign of Orion. We all know that where there’s food, there’s Orion. So, of course we begin to wonder, has our young beauty gone off on her/his exciting journey. We wait for thirteen long minutes more before we get our answer. Our hearts are filled with joy when Orion joins dad in the nest and claims her/his gift at 6:41 am. How happy we are to see that s/he’s still here. Orion enjoys her/his “breakfish” after Martin flies off from the nest. S/he appears to savor every juicy bite before s/he moves up on the Take-Off perch at 7:10 am.

6/8/20226:30 PMRosa, Martin & OrionPerchingOrion has been out and about and back again throughout the day. S/he’s obviously enjoying her/his newfound freedom but a fresh meal would be nice too. Orion has spent a considerable amount of time this evening calling out, presumably for food from the Hideaway perch but as of yet that food hasn’t been delivered. Rosa and Martin are both perched on the Snag tree at 6:58 pm and both fly off at the top of the hour so perhaps they’re off to pick up that delivery. That delivery may be delayed because of the gusty winds that blow through the wetlands at 7:13 pm. Very gusty winds. Orion returns to the nest and after much squeeing and flapping flies off and appears to land on Rosa’s Sleeping perch at 7:14 pm. S/he returns to the nest at 7:25 pm and flies off again just as the rain begins to fall at 7:35 pm.

6/8/202210:47 AMRosa & OrionReturn/PerchingOrion returns from her/his newest adventures at 10:47 am. S/he lands in the nest, scans the skies and flies over to the Cam perch with vocals at 10:53 am. Our young explorer apparently doesn’t go far when she makes a pit stop on Sunset Branch at 10:54 am and flies out of cam view with vocals still sounding. We find Rosa on the Snag tree at 11:12 am so perhaps that’s who Orion is calling to. Orion may be hoping that mom comes to find her/him. It appears that Orion is playing a game of hide and seek. So cute to see her/him peeking around the Hideaway branch at 11:38 am. We found you little one. Orion jumps over to Sunset branch and up and away at 11:54 am. Another hiding place, perhaps. Orion announces her/his arrival and lands in the nest at 1:48 pm. S/he finds some tidbits to snack on before s/he flies off to the Cam perch, up on Sunset branch and over to the Hideaway branch at 2:03 pm. What fun. The little one has her/his own jungle gym.

6/8/20229:18 AMOrionPerching/DepartureOrion finally gets her/his fill and has a nice crop when s/he moves up on the Take-Off perch at 9:18 am. S/he tidies up her/his beak with some feaking and tidies up the tree with some pruning before s/he flies off for new adventures at 9:21 am. Enjoy little one. We’ll be right here when you get back.

6/8/20228:40 AMOrionPerching/In Nest/EatingOrion lands on a branch above the nest at 8:40 am. Another miscalculation, perhaps. The challenges of a new flyer. It’s not always fun and games but the payoff is well worth the effort. After some wing flapping and squeeing, Orion flies off from the perch, circles around and sticks the landing at 8:47 am. A perfect “10”. Apparently, Orion has worked up quite an appetite after all of her/his adventures this morning. S/he finishes up one piece of prey and moves on to another and is still eating at 9:14 am. Quite an appetite indeed!

6/8/20226:00 AMOrionPerchingFog has rolled in over the wetlands on this early Wednesday morning. The Pignut Hickory tree stands empty but Orion is anything but quiet. S/he sings out a greeting with the songbirds joining in the chorus at 6:00 am. Our young fledgling flies towards the nest but misses the landing pad at 6:23 am. A slight miscalculation. Orion peeks over the side of the nest looking more than adorable before s/he disappears from view. We find her/him perched under the nest, no doubt figuring out her/his next move at 6:49 am. S/he regroups and flies off to the Snag tree at 6:51 am. Things don’t go as planned here as well. The branch that s/he’s perched on breaks and both the branch and Orion disappear from view.

6/7/20223:26 PMMartin & OrionPrey Deliveries/Departure/Self-feedingRain moves in to the wetlands during the afternoon hours. Orion stops by the nest for a snack at 3:26 pm before s/he flies off towards Rosa’s Sleeping perch and appears to land on said perch at 3:40 pm. Visibility is limited because of the thick foliage so its unknown how long s/he stays there. What is known is that Orion circles around the nest with excited vocals and lands on that same branch just before Martin arrives with a prey delivery at 6:11 pm. Martin flies off after Orion, still squeeing flies to the nest and claims the prey at 6:12 pm. Love her/his happy squees. S/he finishes up her/his meal and moves up on Take-Off at 6:37 pm. Martin returns with another food delivery at 6:51 pm and flies back out the door. Orion flies off from the nest at 7:03 pm.

6/7/202210:18 AMRosa & OrionPrey Delivery/Self-feeding/DepartureRosa arrives in the nest with what appears to be fluff just after Orion flies off at 10:18 am. Orion makes a beeline back to the nest, mantles and checks out the delivery. What? No food! Mom quickly flies off perhaps to get that food delivery for her little one. Orion rummages around the nest, perhaps still hoping there’s a food delivery hidden here somewhere before s/he flies off at 10:27 am. Rosa is found perching on the Snag tree at 10:53 am which does overlook the Goose Creek River. Hopefully she’s looking to make a catch for Orion. Rosa returns to the nest with what appears to be a muskrat or something very similar at 11:02 am. Orion is vocalizing off cams and finally makes her/his way to the nest at 11:04 am. Rosa steps away and watches over Orion for just a few minutes before s/he flies off. Orion finishes her/his meal and lies down in the nest at 11:49 am. After a good lunch and a nice nap Orion is ready for some more sightseeing. S/he flies off with what sounds like vocals of joy at 12:54 pm. How exciting this new freedom must be for the little one.

6/7/20228:19 AMOrionPerching/ReturnOur young adventurer is found perched on the Snag tree at 8:19 am. No sooner do we find Orion than s/he flies out into the sky and off on new adventures. S/he returns to the nest gracefully gliding in with the wind at 9:25 am. What a beautiful landing. S/he scans the skies from where s/he just flew and lies down in the nest at 9:27 am.
96
6/7/20227:16 AMMartin and OrionReturn/Prey Delivery/Self-feeding/DepartureOrion heads back to the nest squeeing all the way at 7:16 am. S/he’s pulling apart some nesting material when Martin arrives with a duckling at 7:17 am. No surprise at all that Orion stops what s/he’s doing and rushes towards Martin with a gorgeous mantle. No surprise at all that Martin rushes up to the Take-Off perch and flies off after Orion claims the duckling. Orion enjoys her/his meal appearing to savor every bite before s/he flies off to explore more of the wetlands at 7:30 am.

6/7/20225:14 AMOrionPerching/DepartureOrion sends out a morning greeting from her/his perch at 5:14 am. S/he did indeed sleep here all night. S/he continues with some one-sided conversation before s/he hops to Sunset perch and in to the nest at 5:20 am. Our young fledgling hops around the nest in a playful fashion picking up something in her/his beak along the way before s/he makes her way up to Take-Off at 5:23 am. S/he’s back and forth from the perch to the nest until s/he lies down in the her/his nice comfy nest bowl at 5:27 am. There’s no place like home. Orion amuses her/himself with the nesting material and a plastic bag while s/he rests but is already up and rummaging around in the nest at 5:42 am. The young beauty spreads out her/his beautiful wings and flies off to the Cam perch at 5:47 am and over to Sunset perch just one minute later before s/he flies off at 5:50 am.
98
6/6/20228:06 PMOrionPerchingI spy with my little eye someone hiding behind a tree trunk at 8:06 pm. Apparently our young fledgling is playing a game of hide and seek with us this evening. We see you peeking out Orion. What a gorgeous view you have from there with the setting sun behind you. Is that where you’re going to sleep? That appears to be the case. Sweet eagle dreams little one. We’ll see you at first light.

6/6/02225:45 PMRosa & OrionArrival/Feeding/Perching/DepartureRosa joins Orion in the nest and feeds her little one just a bite before she proceeds to enjoy some herself at 5:45 pm. Mom appears to get her fill and offers some more bites to Orion at 5:58 pm. Orion is only too happy to oblige. Thanks Mom. Orion delights us all by flying over to the Cam perch to check out the view at 6:20 pm after Rosa flies off. So nice to see where s/he’s been perching when the Overhead cam was down. Orion’s so comfortable here that s/he even catches a few winks of sleep. Such a grown-up eaglet. Orion flies back to the nest and sticks the landing at 6:46 pm. Nice job little one! S/he makes her way back to the Cam perch and over to the perch that s/he slipped off of earlier at 6:56 pm without any problem this time. Our young beauty pirouettes around on the perch, scans the skies and flies off for new adventures at 6:57 pm. I can’t wait to hear about them when s/he comes back.

6/6/20224:29 PMMartin & OrionPrey Delivery/Missed Landing/ReturnMartin arrives with a meal in a bag at 4:29 pm. Apparently, he’s been dumpster diving again. Orion is still out and about but apparently s/he’s heard the dinner bell. We hear her/his squees but our young fledgling has a slight mishap on the way to the nest. S/he tries to land on a tree nearby but misses the perch and can’t hang on at 4:32 pm. Landings are hard to master for new fledglings. We hear her/his chirps for just a few minutes before all gets quiet. We go in search and find our young beauty perched on a snag tree not too far away. S/he appears to be just fine and is probably wondering what all the fuss is about. S/he practices her/his landings hopping from branch to branch before s/he flies off and joins Martin in the nest at 5:21 pm. Martin quickly hightails it out of there while Orion enjoys the meal that dad delivered.
