On April 19, 2018, Watchung Borough Council voted 5-1 to close the local free public library, rather than further explore building remodels at an estimated annual cost of $58 per average homeowner. We the undersigned support the Coalition to Save the Watchung Library in its efforts to repair or reconstruct a public library, continuing an 80-year history of serving the public and supporting lifelong education, literacy, and community engagement. We are not all residents of the small borough, but we recognize the importance of libraries everywhere, and consider this resource as we evaluate towns where we make our homes and invest.
