Session Submission Type: Panel Session

Abstract

Jewish Studies scholarship has often explored how the United States became a crucial world center for Jews and Jewish culture in the 20th century, while recent research in the field of world literature has emphasized the global influence of America as a center for publishing and cultural production. This panel is situated at the intersection of those two scholarly fields. The four papers examine a variety of ways in which the U.S. functioned within global Jewish cultural production, in sites including Egypt, Eastern Europe, Israel.
