All the ingredients for a sweet romance have been carefully mixed into this story to bring a sweet read for a hungry reader. I guess if I wanted to really make this look more like a recipe, I should have put measurements of each "ingredient" included. Lol. I figured I'd mix (no pun intended) things up with my review today and have a little fun with my opener. It's always good to change it up a little for me and I'm sure for you who are reading this review and how many other reviews you read out there. Right? ;-)
This is one of those stories about childhood friends who didn't quite make it to anything past friendship status, even though they really like each other, when a big mistake messes up everything. Now a mistake can be righted pretty soon afterward, but these are teenagers we're talking about and they put it off thinking in a few weeks they can fix it. But that doesn't happen and life changes, people move away and grow up and change. The guilt or regret hanging over them doesn't go away and for years they hold onto that and the thoughts of what might have been.
Then redemption comes in the least expected moment and again guilt rears its ugly head and strikes. More guilt, frustration at yourself and finally being compelled to seek out and make right.
Alicia moved away years ago, went to school, has had a pretty amazing life...ok not necessarily amazing but good. Except for one thing. She just can't get over losing her best friend. Yet it ended in disaster so she really should move on. Except she can't. Yet she's terrified when she moves back in with her mother to help her with an illness that she'll run into him. And when it happens she realizes she should have let it all go and moved on years ago. He's still the same old Jeff Finch. Until he's not. Until she realizes he made another mistake.
Jeff has never forgotten his best friend and the terrible hurt he caused. He's going to do everything he can to fix that hurt. Except when he hurts her again. But if he didn't act the way he did she could have been hurt even worse...or is he just justifying himself?
Sweet, second chance story for two characters that I enjoyed. I wasn't so sure about Jeff at first. All the backstory didn't put him in the best light in my opinion. But once the one-sided opinions stopped and the whole story was lit up, my opinions were also enlightened and changed. There is healing and friendship, forgiveness and redemption, heartache and love within this story. I think fans of Heather B. Moore will enjoy this one which is the beginning of a new series. Yay!
Content: Clean. Kissing, some sweet and a couple a little more spicy but nothing further than kissing. Some mild innuendos. A character suffering from hoarding and the process of recovery for them.
I received a review copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Sometimes I live in a fictional world and I love discovering new places. I want to move to Pine Valley, because not only does the setting sound fantastic, but there are good, solid people who live there. The cover exudes a comforting feel and the story wrapped its arms around me in a warm hug. This is the life, people.
Alicia has big issues with her hoarding mother, but she is such a sweet daughter. Alicia is loyal and someone who I want to be friends with. Jeff, her best friend from growing up, made a major hormonal mistake back in high school and they parted ways, but sometimes life dishes out a second chance. Not only is Jeff trying to make amends, but he's shaping up to be a more prominent figure in her life than ever before and I kind of swooned over him, along with Alicia.
The small-town charm oozes out of this one and really makes me want to discover a place such as this in real life. I loved the characters and setting and can't wait to find out what other romances are waiting to happen in Pine Valley. Don't worry--I'll be back soon for another visit.
Content: mild, swoony romance (kisses)

I'm so excited for a new contemporary series from this author! I love books set in small towns and tight-knit communities. Alycia thinks the whole neighborhood is against her mother and is struggling to help keep the hoarding under control- but a feeling of helplessness really comes across in her emotions. An unexpected reunion with Jeff shifts not only her own social life, but her mother's as well. I loved the deeper themes of the cleansing power of forgiveness and the importance of friendship. It took me a bit to warm up to Jeff but as it became clear that the changes he's making are heartfelt, I appreciated the strength and support he gave Alycia. A sweet romance and I'm looking forward to more!
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)
It’s a relatively fast read. It’s told in third person but alternates views of Alicia and Jeff. The characters are giving and neither has any major flaws. They are just like two real people you would see any day that have a lot of give and take in their lives. They are both service oriented and cute to watch them rekindle past feelings quickly and move forward with their life.
They both no how to apologize! When you read it you will know what I mean and giggle!
If you like stories of second chances, real estate, hoarding, restaurants, humility, kisses, helping others then this might be for you!
I loved it. A great romance with some family issues thrown in. With a history of a broken heart it was a fun read. I loved the characters, even the hoarder mom turned out to be all right in the end. I loved their history and working through it all. I adored him and his patience and knowing what he wanted.
It really was just a sweet, small town love story and I didn’t want to put it down once I started reading. And right now reading three books that I am thoroughly enjoying makes it hard to choose which one to open. That is a good dilemma to have I think!
Alicia's heart was broken by her best friend, Jeff. In a moment of misjudgment, he lost what he valued most. Years later, Alicia finds herself back in her hometown to help her struggling mother. The problem with small towns is that eventually you are bound to run into each other.
"Worth the Risk" is a contemporary romance that has a great story. The chemistry and friendship is strong between Jeff and Alicia, but there is a lot of history and hurt feelings. The story centers on Jeff trying to make things right and Alicia learning to forgive. Thrown in the mix is a mother who suffers from a mental illness, hoarding. So while Jeff and Alicia are healing, there is a secondary story of Alicia's mom learning to heal and the reasons behind her illness. I loved how friends and loved ones can make a difference.
I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more of the series. I really want to get to know the town and the people better.
Alicia left home after high school to attend college, got a degree in marketing, found a job she enjoyed and didn't really go home the past 10 years except for a few visits. She "temporarily" left her job to move back home to Pine Valley to help take care of her mom, a hoarder who hadn't left the house in a couple of months, and now works as a hostess at the Alpine Lodge restaurant. She works at night so she can be home with her mom during the day. One night at work she sees Jeff Finch, a guy she had a huge crush on her senior year of high school. They went to prom together, but when she caught him making out with another girl, who was a junior and new to the school, Alicia called a friend to pick her up and she never spoke to Jeff again--until now.
This book is a story of friends reunited who become more than friends, but it's also about Alicia's relationship with her mother and how a friend coming back into her mother's life helps her make profound changes that even therapy didn't seem to be helping.
I liked both Alicia and Jeff--they were both great people who helped others. I can't imagine leaving my job and apartment in another city to move back home to take care of a mother who was a hoarder and work a low paying job. Alicia rarely takes time for herself, only has a couple of friends, even they don't know about her mom's problems. Jeff has felt badly about what he did to Alicia in high school for the past 10 years. He was a teenager, so of course he didn't do the right thing and apologize to Alicia or try to squash the rumors about him and the other girl. Now that Alicia's talking to him he's going to try and help her (and her mom) however he can.
I love how he brought his mom over to Alicia's and she got Alicia's mom interested in making jewelry. This friendship helped Alicia's mom start to get rid of things, stop buying so much and enabled her to make other big changes in her life.
Alicia and Jeff are able to finally clear the air about what happened 10 years ago, and start over as friends who then realize they have feelings for each other. Who wouldn't like Jeff? He sounds like the perfect package--good looking, great job, kind and caring of others, etc.
This is a clean romance and I look forward to reading the other books in the Pine Valley series.
I knew I wanted to read this one as soon as I saw the cover! So pretty! The synopsis also sounded good and I'm always a sucker for a second chance love story.
I really enjoyed this one and I'm looking forward to reading the next two books in the series. Alicia is a likable heroine, really goes above and beyond to help her sick mom. Gives up her dreams and moves back home, despite how her mom treats her and the unhealthy environment. Jeff was also really likable, he made mistakes, but learned from them. I thought Alicia and Jeff had a sweet relationship, it wasn't smooth sailing and I thought it developed realistically.
Overall, this was a fun story with depth, sweet romance, well developed characters and fun small town charm.

I really love that Heather B. Moore is writing a contemporary romance series. She is such a versatile writer and I love how she can always surprise me with a new genre.
I have to say first that I really love this cover. I love it's simplicity and the pretty pop of color.
What is it about second chance at first love stories? I'm such a sucker for them. I was rooting for Alicia and Jeff from the very beginning and hoping they would find a way to reconnect on the level they needed to succeed. Jeff is so good to Alicia. I loved his gentle perseverance and his desire to help Alicia and her mom. This was such a sweet, romantic story and the perfect thing to read on this day to celebrate love. 💗
I can't wait for the next book releasing in April! Yay!

Worth the Risk is another fun book by Heather B Moore and, also, part of her Pine Valley series. This time a reader gets to dive into Jeff and Alicia‘s story. It is such a cute and delightful story. Jeff and Alicia has great chemistry, making for a sweet and clean romance. I give gift Worth the Risk five stars. I received this book from the author, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Sweet Romance Worth the Risk is a sweet romance. Alicia and Jeff were best friends in high school, but they had a falling out and hadn’t seen each other for the past 10 years. I felt that the renewal of their friendship was believable and realistic. Their love story had twists and turns and real life problems that were believable and helped to draw in the reader. It was easy to identify with the enjoyable plot and well rounded characters.
I loved this book! I read well into the night last night because I could not put it down! I enjoy a good second chance story which made this story appealing right off the bat. I liked both the characters and how their friendship built and their chemistry. This is a second chance story but part of their conflict was due to the turmoil the heroine was going through with family issues. It felt very real and emotional and I could relate to the characters even though I haven't experienced all of the things they did. I am very excited that this book is part of a series and am excited for the next one!
This was cute and clean. I can’t actually think of anything that was wrong with it, per se, but Heather has other books that I like better. I think this one didn’t measure up to the humor/wit in some of the others nor the dreaminess of the historical romance. Or maybe it’s just me and you’ll really love this! Contemporary isn’t really my favorite unless it literally makes me LOL like Elle Lothlorian’s Frog Prince.
Worth the Risk is a sweet romance and I loved Jeff and Alicia’s story. All of the characters are well written. I was happy with the progression of each character. Especially Mrs. Waters. Jeff’s mom was a fun addition to the story. I enjoyed the POV changes between Jeff and Alicia, it really helped move the story along at an enjoyable pace. I really loved Jeff and Alicia together and the work it took to get them together was rewarding.
-‘“I’m a lucky man, and I’m glad you decided I was worth the risk.”-‘
I really liked this new, contemporary story by Heather Moore. I felt it was well-written and the characters were engaging. Swoon kisses abound. Clean romance with no sex and no swearing. My kind of read!
I really enjoyed Heather B. Moore's new book. There is a lot of history between Alicia and Jeff. Best friends, betrayal, forgiveness and secret crushes. But can there also be true love? Or will the past be too much to overcome. This is a clean romance.
Perfect! This was the perfect love story. I loved their chemistry, their struggles and how they learned to work through them. This was a really sweet, clean romance that I couldn't put down.
Romance, clean This was a cute fall-again romance. Alicia and Jeff's past mistakes and history come back to the forefront of their lives as they meet each other again at Alicia's place of employment. They both have complications in their lives. This was more of a 3.5 for me as a reader, a difficult read since it was so hard to read about the hoarding (have a close family member who has this illness), and this was the second book that I have read in the past few months with hoarding as a back story. Still, H.B.M. knows how to write the conflicts, and more importantly, the attraction and chemistry. If you enjoy a clean romantic read, this is definitely a great book, and although dealing with some pretty heavy issues, and conflicts, still a positive, hopeful read. Alicia and Jeff's fall was poignant as they dealt with their pasts, but still so very present and hopeful. The fact that they both had their unresolved and still present attraction for each other, made for a perfect romantic fall-again read. I received an advance copy in exchange for a fair and honest review. This in no way influenced my opinions and review.

It’s about overcoming mistakes in relationships, including family and romantic. It has a focus on these family and friend turned romantic relationships and how to forgive and makeup and make them stronger. Moore brings to life the character of her story in a fun and engaging way, keeping the attention of her readers throughout the story. Readers will easily fall in love with and relate with the characters and situations in the story. I love second chance stories. Jeff Finch blew it 10 years ago when he humiliated his best friend, Alicia, at their senior prom. Alicia hasn't talked to him since then, but now they're both back in Pine Valley. He is a successful realtor; she is working as a hostess at the Pine Lodge and trying to keep her mentally ill mother from getting worse.
There's definitely chemistry between them - even all these years later - but can there be trust after all they have been through in the past? And will loving Jeff again be worth the risk? It was easy to see that Jeff has matured a lot in the past 10 years and really regrets what he did as a stupid teenage boy. This was a great story of grace and maturity and second chances!

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. A cute contemporary romance, "Work the Risk" is an unusual story because the conflict forms mostly around the mom's hang ups as they affect the daughter, and as such the hero is that much cooler. Also the romance is based in part on a friendship that started years ago, and finally gets a second chance at blooming. While some things happen off screen, and Alicia's freak out at one point will have a reader face palming, the story was good, clean, and fleshed out. More of these please Ms. Moore!
This was a great book. The pacing was good. I never felt like the story line ever dragged. The characters were well developed. The romance between Jeff and Alicia was well developed and felt real. I am a sucker for best friend romances. The story left me curious about Alicia's friend Gwen and her boss Seth and Jeff's friend Grant and his new girlfriend. Will these couples be in the other two books? I will have to read them and find out.
This story is book 1 to a new series called "Pine Valley" and is off to a great start! I really enjoyed reading this steady pace, clean romance book. Alicia was a great character and I liked her interactions with others-strong but kind.
Readers get a glimpse into the life of living with a hoarder and how an addiction like that can affect others emotionally and physically. This book was a prefect example of how sometimes friends and outside help can be the exact thing that person needs to get help. Although this book dealt with addiction, mental health, forgiveness and divorce; it was still light hearted and quick and fun to read. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to meet more characters in this series.
I received a copy of this e-book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
I love wonderful clean romances like this one. It wasn’t without some tense moments and misunderstandings, which makes the good parts all the more satisfying. When Jeff knew his feelings for Alicia had never subsided since high school 10 years ago he knew he needed to make things right with her again. When Alicia saw Jeff at the restaurant where she worked, her feelings for him were reignited. This is a great feel good kind of story that needs to be read curled up on the couch with a nice soft blanket and pillow.
Fluffy contemporary romance. There was some potential for depth in this story but it it kept to the surface. The female main character has moved home to take care of her mother. The mother is suffering from mental illness surrounding depression and anxiety. The male main character is a local boy who’s a player and a successful businessman. He hurt her feelings and she didn’t speak to him for a decade. They run into each other by chance, he wants to fix all her problems... she’s got plenty to fix... the end. The happy ending where love fixes everything is a fictional standard for a reason. I just didn’t find myself that interested or engaged. Minimal violence. Make out scenes but no sex. No swearing. Themes of depression, anxiety, hoarding, mental illness Random PS, the cover is pretty but has no relevance to the story.
