In a vote that ended Oct. 11, cincinnati.com readers voted more than 93,000 times for the Cincinnati Enquirer athlete of the week winners for Oct. 1-7, sponsored by TriHealth.

You do not have to be a subscriber to vote, a period that lasts Monday afternoon to Friday at 3 p.m. each week. Please submit any nominees by Sunday evening for the previous week's performances to mlaughman@enquirer.com. The new ballot will be posted Monday evening. You can vote once an hour from any device.

This week's winners are:

Ohio football team: Fenwick – They beat the No. 1 team in DIII, Chaminade Julienne, 34-19. Jack Fessler ran for a Fenwick-record 317 yards on 19 carries for three TDs.

Northern Kentucky football team: Holmes – Holmes won its third straight game and improved to 3-4 overall with a 28-21 win over Bourbon County, improving to 2-0 in Class 4A, District 7. The Bulldogs are searching for their first district title since 2010.

Ohio football player:  Jack Fessler, Fenwick - He ran for a Fenwick-record 317 yards on 19 carries for three TDs. He’s second in the GCL-Coed with 1,115 yards.

Northern Kentucky football player: Jon Sergent, Simon Kenton – He ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns and returned a punt 50 yards for a score in the 39-7 win over Boone County.

Boys cross country: Robbie Notton, Conner - The junior finished 2nd overall (1st among NKY athletes) and led his team to a first-place finish in the large school varsity race at the Lexington Catholic Invitational at the Kentucky Horse Park Oct. 6. His time was 16:56.6 for the 5K race.

Girls cross country: Megan John, Oak Hills – She was runner-up in the Ross Invitational with at time of 19:17, helping Oak Hills to a third-place team finish.

Boys golf: Max Lane, Seven Hills – Seven Hills advanced to the Division III state tournament as a team, led by the senior Lane who shot 80 at the district meet, good for third.

Girls golf: Rachelle Soh, Ursuline Academy – She was the highest-placing Lion at the sectional tournament at sixth place to help Ursuline to a team championship in Division I.

Boys soccer: Jimmy Cowan, Batavia – He had a hat trick off Corbin Richardson’s assists in the 3-1 win over Division III No. 4 ranked Mariemont Oct. 6. He’s one of only three players to score on Western Brown this season.

Girls soccer: Mads Gerak, Dixie Heights – The senior forward scored four goals in three games last week. Mads scored on senior night in a 4-0 win vs. Bishop Brossart, added two more goals in a 3-1 win over defending Ninth Region champion Notre Dame Academy, and scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against defending Eighth Region champ Simon Kenton.

Singles tennis: Neda Tehrani, Seven Hills – She won the Division II sectional championship at Mason High School, beating her teammate Annika Alper, both earning a place at districts.

Doubles tennis:  Helen Sotropa - Sarah Wittenbaum, Sycamore – They won the Division I sectional doubles championship at the ATP Lindner Family Tennis Center Oct. 6, advancing to districts. Their teammates Amanda Wilson and Sara Bolger also advanced to districts as a doubles team after taking the third-place match over MND.

Volleyball: Meg Yuan, Seven Hills – The sophomore libero/outside hitter leads the area in aces with 90. In the Stingers’ two wins last week, she had 8 aces, 7 assists, 14 digs and a block for the 18-2 Seven Hills team.

Water polo: Fiona Halloran, Mason – The junior scored 5 times to lead the Comets over Princeton, 11-6, at Mason Tuesday Oct 2. Equally recognized for her defense, Halloran is among team leaders this year in many categories including goals, assists, and steals.
