Streaker from Texas-Texas A&M game identified as Aggies student-athlete following arrest
In the midst of what was an entertaining Texas–Texas A&M baseball showdown, a streaker decided to run onto the field. Holding a sign that read “Longhorns suck” and stating some political beliefs, the man also decided to moon the crowd on hand at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
No security guard was able to grab the streaker while on the field. In a somewhat miraculous move, he made it from in between the pitcher’s mound and home plate, all the way over the center field wall. Well, now we know why he had such great stamina. He’s a member of the Aggie cross-country team.
Spencer Werner has been identified as the streaker, being a freshman at Texas A&M. As Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle reported, the streaker — who has since been identified as Werner — was charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Bail has been set at a total of $2,800.
Werner just finished his freshman season of cross country with Texas A&M, originally being from the state of Illinois. He attended Loyola Academy High School. Due to his performance at the Paul Short Run 8k with a time of 24:51.0, Werner was named the SEC Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week back in late September.
Once over the center field wall, Werner was met by police. At the time, he was wearing a mask to hide his identity. In what the cross-country star thought would be a great escape, the end came to a halt.
Texas outlasts Texas A&M for midweek rivalry win
More than just a streaking incident occurred in College Station on Tuesday night. There was a baseball game played, with Texas holding on against Texas A&M. The Longhorns previously had 14 games in a row, all coming at home. Taking down the in-state rivals extended the streak and most likely was the sweetest of them all.
Head coach David Pierce has a win against an SEC program for the first time this season as well. Arkansas, Missouri, and Vanderbilt had all taken Texas down during the College Baseball Showdown, as did LSU during a midweek game in Austin. Future conference opponents had been having their way with the Longhorns.
While Tuesday was a one-off game, we will soon have a full weekend series between the two Lone Star State rivals in the near future. One final midweek edition will take place in Austin next season before Texas becomes a full-time member of the SEC.
