Let Me In #2

Perfectly Lonely

Rate this book
On a business trip to Vegas, Layla Sands confesses a secret that wasn’t hers to tell, in this enticing follow up novel from Jessica Marin.

I’ve loved and lost. Now I lose myself in mindless sex, drinking and work, anything to pass the time and fill the void that I feel. Another drink, another guy…until Chase Wilson. He’s not what I expect, turns out he’s also not who I thought. Then again, neither am I.

Some might call what I’m doing destructive, I call it survival. When finally putting myself out there backfires, I vow not to let it happen again. I know what my body wants, but it’s not what my heart needs and it’s about time I learn the difference.

As life around me moves on, I realize life is worth living and that I’m worth loving. But old habits die hard as I struggle to understand Chase’s motives for trying to save me from myself.

One thing is clear. For the first time, I’m done being perfectly lonely.

This is book two of the Let Me In series, but all novels in the Let Me In series are stand alone novels with no cliffhangers and HEA endings.

Although this book is stated as can be read as a standalone, I would encourage anyone who wants to really be in the know and enjoy character growth to read this as part of a series. After all, the book is titled (Let Me In, Book 2)...

To the book itself: all the favorite characters are back and Jessa and Cal's story continues. Robert is just as hysterical as in the first and Avery is precocious as hell. We also have some pop ins with Sean Lindsay which kind of teases the next book.

This book however focuses on Layla (Jessa's best friend) and Chase Wilson, the guy she had the ONS with in the first book. Layla has been out of control since losing her husband both with alcohol and men. Chase has family problems of his own but still can't stop thinking of Layla who has reason not to like him at this point.

Watching them each realize self healing is as important to a relationship as healing a relationship itself was refreshing. The book flowed better than the first, partially due to all the characters already being established and partially due to the writer having popped her debut author cherry with the first in the series. I liked these two, rooted for them both and look forward to the third.

I thought Perfectly Lonely was a good read it would be the first book that I've had the pleasure of reading , even though this is the second book in the let me in series it can be read as a standalone with some minor spoilers that have occurred in the heartbreak warfare . My heart really went out to the characters and the challenges that they had to face , how they dealt with said challenges tore me up . Really like how the emotions were written and how they as a reader make you feel . Recommending this book

Chase and Layla

I have to start off by saying this is probably one of the most talented writers I’ve ever had the joy of reading. She truly encompasses every emotional aspect in her stories. I feel happiness, heat, angst, frustration, joy, and anger. It was beautiful from the first page to the last.

Layla is a widower and the woman is a hot mess. I wanted in equal parts to console her and shake her. I wanted so badly for her to wake up and fight. Sadly, Layla was a work in progress. She uses men and alcohol to numb her pain. I thought the author gave us a base to know her grief without being overly descriptive and that helped me not be too angry at our heroine. You truly feel the pain she’s in. She wants to be stronger but doesn’t know how.

Chase is at a point in his life where he is cleaning up his father’s mess and trying to mend broken relationships with both his mom and brother after his father’s betrayal and untimely death. He’s trying to come to terms with dealing with his own grief while simultaneously trying to take on Layla’s too.

It’s Layla who is strong enough for them both. She tells him goodbye so they can heal themselves first.

“His kisses completely rob me of my thoughts and the look in his eyes last night confirmed that he wants to consume me body and soul. I’m not ready to be consumed. I still need to focus on me and making more positive changes in my life.”

These two love each other deeply and this Happy Ever After is one for the record books!

I loved, I laughed, I blushed, and I screamed at my kindle the whole way through.

I can’t wait for Sean’s story next!
Thank you Jessica!

This is book 2 in the Let Me In series by Author Jessica Marin but you do not need to have read book 1 to know what is happening in the story. Author Jessica Marin is able to provide enough back story that you will not be lost. Although I would recommend that you download book 1 and enjoy this new author's stories. I am looking forward to book 3 in this series. And future books by the author.

Layla. Oh Layla. She was a hot mess but sexy as hell. She has it all it seems but she is drowning in sorrow. She must learn to love herself and let go of the past to be able to move toward the future. But it is not always as easy as it seems. Layla has her fall backs of booze and sex. Lots of booze and sex. But when she realizes she is spiraling out of control. It is time to make some changes. Can she do this and learn that sometimes even when life throws you on the ground, you are strong enough to get back up on your feet and live.

Chase. He is handsome, sexy and seems to have it all but looks can be deceiving. He is running from the past. But he has never really wanted to face the past until he meets Layla. And she makes him want more. After just one night with her, she consumes him. He plans to do whatever he can to make her fall in love with him.

As Layla and Chase play the game of cat and mouse, one of them is going to have to give in to the chemistry that is between them. But they are both have a past that needs to be faced before moving to the future. Can they find the strength to deal with the past and find each other on the other side; ready to make a future together or will the past continue to haunt them?

After Heartbreak Warfare, I was MORE than ready for Chase and Layla’s emotional whirlwind of a story. And while I still love Cal (❤️), Chase... MMMMmmmMMM!

Once again I am blown away with the writing, and have to remind myself that this is Jessica’s second... as in TWO... book and I love how she writes. You really want to immerse yourself into the world and be lifelong friends with the characters... Richard LOL! But I digress, back to Perfectly Lonely...

Living in his self imposed purgatory, Chase still takes the show Layla that he is worthy of her forgiveness and her love, amongst the “walls” of life closing in on him. And Layla... LAYLA! *Did the Eric Clapton’s song come to mind for anyone else?* There were times when I wanted to just shake her and help her open her eyes to what was going on around her... that girls stubbornness... UGH! But by the end I was so happy for her to find herself again after so much loss.

I want to know the HEAs for ALL of these characters *Hint Torrin Hint* and can’t wait for what comes next!

Perfectly lonely is the second book in the Let Me In series. It definitely needs to be read after book 1 because it picks up pretty much where the first story left off. This time though we get to hear Layla's story.

The story really had me on the edge wondering what was going to happen. Layla meets Chase in book one but we really don't get to hear much more about him until this book. After losing her husband Layla is spiraling out of control and finally realizes that she needs to start taking better care of herself. Chase is hoping that she will start opening up to him and that he could be someone in her life.

The drama from book 1 isn't over and there are many times that I wanted to shake some sense into both Layla and Chase. What Layla had been through is heartbreaking and I definitely felt so many feels throughout the entire book.

I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on book 3 in this series! - By Alisa

Perfectly Lonely is the second book in the series and can be a standalone but would spoil so much of Heartbreak Warfare that I would recommend the series be read in order. Plus this book overlaps some of book one so it is good to visualize the bigger picture.

When I read Heartbreak Warfare, I was hoping to see Layla and Chase to get another opportunity at finding their second chance. Miscommunication, secrets, alcohol and a one night stand had possibly ruined what could have been something great. Both Layla and Chase have a past that makes them make stupid choices, mistakes and leaves each with regrets.

When I turned the last page, I was hoping that book 3 was already out so I can delve into more about this group of individuals. It is almost like a soap opera. Stay tuned for the next book to find out.......don't know but looking forward to seeing just what will happen next.

Layla has been on a path of self destruction since losing the love of her life. Charlie her late husband. She’s never really recovered.

Her friends have tried to intervene and help her but until Layla realises herself that she deserves more and that she can find love again she will continue on this path.

Meeting Chase again though brings everything back. The drunken hookup and the night she told him her friends secret, not knowing who he actually was.

Chase is fighting his own demons. Running from his past. His life. And his family. But seeing Layla again he knows this is his chance for redemption.

These two will have to let go of the past and learn to forgive.

This is the second book in this amazing series, and is Layla and Chase’s story. Both of these characters are working through grief and pain, yet can they heal each other? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is a beautifully written story from this extremely talented author, and is filled with emotion, angst, love, and is a steamy and healing story. I was totally intrigued and captivated throughout, and cannot wait to read more from this author, and I highly recommend her work for all readers!

I loved this book. This book can be read as a standalone, I intend to go back and read the first book. I was not lost at all. My heart broke for Layla and Chase. These two are both going through grief and pain. This book is a emotional rollercoaster you will not want to get off of. Will these two be able to heal each other? I was drawn in right away, I could not put this book down. I cannot stress how much of a must read this book is. Everyone should read this book. You will not be sorry I can promise you that.

Better than the first!!

After loosing the love of her life Layla is scared to start having feelings again especially not for Chase. But when he declares he will make her love him she doesn’t know what to think. Can she love someone who betrayed her?

Was such a good story I love Chase, doing something he doesn’t really like to try to save the family business which is failing due to an aweful father.

Another fantastic 5 star read from Jessica Marin. This one was slightly different than book one, there was lots more emotion than the first. But Layla and Chase were brilliant characters and it was great to see the previous characters again.

Will definitely be looking out for more from this author!

Lots of emotions in this book!

I loved getting more of Cal and Jenna's story in this book; but also loved learning more about Layla and her past and what she needs to over come for herself in order to succeed.

I just thought Chase was the obnoxious papperazi his whole life but I was proven wrong. He also has his demons to overcome.

Will they overcome their demons and be happy again? Enjoy!!

Sooooo excited for #3!!!

Loved reading Layla's story! It's very easy to find yourself feeling sorry for her for everything she's been through and wanting to shake some sense into her at the same time. Robert as usual is always comedy relief and a dose of the truth when its needed. I'm really hoping there is a third book as I want to know what's up with the nanny and Seth, and I have my suspicions on the death threats, but I need to know if I'm right! This series is the first I've read of Jessica Marin and I have to say that I am now a fan!

This is the second instalment in the Let Me In Series and it is Layla and Chase's story which picks up where we left off in Book 1 Heartbreak Warfare. After loosing the love of her life Layla is scared to start living again and to put herself out there especially not for Chase who she has a bit of rough history with. Underneath hos rough obnoxious exterior Chase has his own demons to fight which in turn makes for a beautifully captivating story with lots of emotions, love, healing and angst not to mention the steamy sexy scenes. Another not to be missed by this talented author

Layla’s story is sad and lonely story. Having self doubts and tradgey in her life makes her make the wrong choices. when it comes out that Chase is the photographer who she told the story of Jenna’s to everything starts to make sense. We also get to find out more about Jenna and Cal story. I loved this series so far the characters feel like i know them and every emotion they go through. Highly recommend as must read series that you will fall in love with and have you wanting more.

Rating: ★★★★★ Steam: ♨♨♨♨ Recommended: ☑ HIGHLY
REVIEW: Oh where do I start with this one, it was easy and tough for me to read because: the heroine is a little destructive in a way, as in irresponsible. Once of course I started reading and getting the bigger picture i totally understood why. My heart broke for her at that moment because I could have only imagine the pain of what she went through and lived with her whole life. To LOVE and to LOST! That's the best way I can describe it, the agony, pain and self worth...Layla definitely will teach you all of that and more. She is also the reason of an incident from Book one that involved Cal & Jenna, I can't say what because it will give away a lot and i vow to have spoiler free review's, but it was HUGE! That is another burden she carries on her shoulder. What's a girl to do when she fears more to lose her best friend then herself! In comes Chase, the ever so sexy (who is in book #1 by the way, in a big way) celebrity photographer. It's sure a different hero i'll tell you that (not in a bad way at all) he is more mysterious, dangerous and just plain sexy!! Again, the story continues and all blends in very well....!!

This is deep, soulful, emotional, heartfelt, angsty read with all the feels and learning how to te chances. The writing just flowed and had me engrossed to the story from start to finish wanting to find out what happens next. I enjoyed every single minute of it and never wanted it to end. I loved that it was written in dual POV. It was well developed, well written and thought out. It was sweet, angsty and steamy. The characters are amazing and so likeable; loveable and endearing, even though sometimes challenging. It’s easy to fall for them. They have depth, they are complex and perfectly imperfect with complicated pasts.

Layla is a hot mess but she is working on improving herself. She is such an amazing heroine. In my opinion Layla must learn to love herself, let go of the pas, start living for herself again and to learn how to take chances and risks. She is much stronger and braver than she thinks.

Chase is amazing. He also has some atonement to do. Chase is charming, handsome, sexy and really down to earth guy. He needs to let go of his past and overcome a guilt he carries.

description

Layla and Chase! Loved them from the moment I started reading this book. They always try to one up each other and play cat and mouse game. Their chemistry i off the charts. I loved Chase's courtship and the little text messages he was sending Layla. The way he was treating her showed how much he cared about her already and that he wanted her to trust him. Both are going through some grief and pain though for different reasons. I love that they started off as friends, or tried to because their chemistry, connection and pull were evident and strong. The more time they spend together the more feelings are involved. Chase is so patient with her, trying to convience her he isn't the bad guy and that he is worth taking a risk. Their love story isn't easy but certainly is emotional, captivating and beautiful.

Seriously read it, you won't be disappointed. I can't wait for Sean's book - I loved him so much in these 2 books especially in the 1st and he deserves happiness. Highly recommend it!

Layla isn't having an easy time in life, in fact, she's a complete mess. She just wants to be numb from her pain, so she uses alcohol & men for that purpose, and it's doing her no favors. Chase is busy cleaning up his father's mess, and it's taking a toll on him, especially since he's also trying to fix a broken family consisting of his mother & brother, after his father's betrayal & death. Can these two people with each of their own grief, heal each other together? Perfectly Lonely was an emotional read, especially reading about Layla, who I couldn't decide if I wanted to hug or shake. She wanted to be stronger, but she just can't seem to get there. I could literally feel her pain myself, so I hurt for her. And Chase had his own pain, so when they were together at first, it was almost like a train wreck to me. That doesn't mean that I wasn't cheering them on, because I was, it just means maybe the timing wasn't right at first, but it still hurt. That's the beauty of the talented Jessica Marin, I feel every emotion of her characters like they were my own, and I talk about her stories like it's the life of my friends, that's how invested I become. I laughed, cried, freaked out, screamed colorful metaphors, happiness, heat, so much frustration, rage, and at the end, exhaustion. I LOVE this series, and CANNOT WAIT for Sean's story next! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

You have to love yourself first

I am so much happier with the ending of this one than book 1. In book 1 I felt Jenna didn’t stand her ground about having a healthy and mature relationship, but the glimpses we saw of her and Cal in this book proved that they moved past that and are happy now, which I was grateful for. Unlike Jenna, in book 2, Layla demanded that she and Chase both work on themselves so they can have a healthy relationship. I was so proud of her for having the strength to face the pain of that, knowing it would be better when they both got through it. Watching Layla transform as she fell apart and put herself together was inspiring. She had more reasons to spiral than most people her age do, but she always had an amazing support system beside her, patiently taking baby steps with her on her journey to healing. Chase had a patient support system too, he just didn’t realize it. His rekindled relationship with his family was so sweet and I adored his interactions with his brother at the end. Layla and Chase together will be a power to be reckoned with, both in love and business.

This is the second book in the Let Me In series, and is Layla and Chase’s story. Both of these characters are damaged and broken but the question is are they recoverable and will they be a positive impact to each other or just continue to year each other down? Layla is working through the grief of her husband from a few years prior. She can't get past the idea that it's ok to let go and move on. Chase is running from the demons his father left behind in a stocking winery. Though they want each other, they have to heal as individuals before trying as a couple. This is a must read, but you have to read book 1 first. You will not be disappointed! I was totally encapsulated in the characters. I highly recommend this author!

The author is very talented. I was just unable to connect with the story. It was probably because I didn't the first book. It would have given me a better background on this one. Layla is a widower. She lost the love her life. She didn't know how to cope or how to feel. She ended up using men and alcohol to make her feel again. Chase is a paparazzi and has a bad history with Layla and wants to make amends with her. He tries to help Layla with dealing with her grief and his. In the end, Layla was the strong one and help them deal with their grief.

I couldn’t wait to start Layla and Chase’s story after reading about them in Heartbreak Warfare you knew that there story would be emotional. Jessica has captured every emotion you can think of with this book. Chase sexy hot and emotional scared from his past that he hasn’t dealt with, then here Layla emotionally unavailable on a destructive path. Can these two people find happiness with each other. I have truly enjoyed both books in the series so far and can’t wait to see what the author brings us next.

I was excited to read Layla and chase’s story. From book one in the series I really did not anticipate Chase being Layla’s romantic interest. There was certainly a lot to overcome from Chase’s original deceit. The story does pick up right where part one left off but you could read it as a stand alone. The heat between Layla and Chase is off the charts. All of the genuine effort Chase makes to woo Layla back to him is so sweet that you may find yourself angry at Layla’s refusal to forgive things from the past. Overall a really enjoyable romance.

This is the second book in the series and was a great read. I was worried as I read the prologue but loved how Layla took charge of her life. No longer wallowing in grief but moving forward with the one person who she should not want. Chase shattered her friends life but therr is something about him that Layla can't resist. This is a great read. I look forward to the next book!
