Covid-19 Vaccine Town Hall

One of the most important assets we have in combating the Covid-19 pandemic is a well-informed public, which is key to reducing our transmission numbers and working towards long-term economic recovery.  Snohomish County Chair Stephanie Wright and Vice Chair Megan Dunn will be co-hosting a regional Town Hall Meeting regarding vaccines and vaccine distribution in Snohomish County on Tue, March 2 from 4:30-5:30pm

Panelists will include Dr. Chris Spitters and Shawn Fredrick from the Snohomish Health District, Jason Biermann from Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management, and Rochelle Lubbers from the Tulalip Tribes.  Opening remarks will be provided by County Executive Dave Somers.

The event is free and anyone from the public is welcome to join via Zoom at http://bit.ly/SnoCoTownHallQuestions from the public can be sent in advance.

Public Comment Sought to Inform County-wide Planning Policies

Starting February 18th, public comments will be accepted about the draft Countywide Planning Policies (CPPs,) which serve as the planning framework for cities, towns, and unincorporated areas of Snohomish County.  Comments will be accepted until March 16th, after which they will be compiled and shared with the Planning Advisory Group (part Snohomish County Tomorrow) at their March and April meetings.  Residents are invited to weigh in on a broad range of categories, including chapters on Housing, Economic Development and Employment, Transportation, Natural Environment, Public Services, and Public Facilities.  The current CPPs were last updated in 2011, so broad participation from the public is important.

Volunteers Sought for Sound Transit Oversight Panel

Sound Transit is seeking volunteers to help the agency succeed in meeting its commitments to the public. The Citizen Oversight Panel (COP) currently has two openings on the COP for the Snohomish County Subarea.

The COP was created in 1997 to independently monitor Sound Transit and make sure it meets its commitments to build and operate a regional bus, light rail and commuter rail transit system. Its 15 members represent a variety of interests, professional expertise and experience. The panel meets twice monthly during normal business hours and acts as an independent oversight entity by digging into agency details, asking hard questions, and reporting its findings to the Sound Transit Board of Directors.

To apply, you must (1) be a registered voter within the Sound Transit District and reside and/or work in Snohomish County; (2) have experience/skills in one or more areas related to the panel's responsibilities: business management; engineering; financial management; public facilities and services; large projects construction management; government processes; and public policy development or review; (3) be able to attend meetings twice each month during normal business hours.

Copies of all applications and resumes will be provided to the Sound Transit Board for its review. The Board's Executive Committee will review and recommend candidates. The Board of Directors will confirm the appointments.

Sound Transit actively seeks to include persons from diverse backgrounds and professional areas of expertise to support agency oversight, planning and operations. Persons of color and women are encouraged to apply.

Public Works 2020 Annual Report

The Snohomish County Public Works Department has published the 2020 Annual Report: A Year of Resiliency, which profiles many county services and projects from the 2020 calendar year, including the Alderwood Mall Parkway Sidewalk Gap Improvements Project. There is an interactive story map that gives residents a chance to see how their tax dollars are being spent, as well as leveraged for additional grant funding from State and Federal dollars.  For the best experience, they advise viewing the report in Chrome.

Become a WSU Beach Watcher

Nature lovers can immerse themselves in Puget Sound stewardship, gain knowledge about the where we live, and gain hands-on experience by becoming a WSU Beach Watcher.  You will receive 80 hours of classroom and field training on Puget Sound wildlife, coastal processes, water quality, climate change, and more.  As a citizen scientist volunteer, you will have the opportunity to give back to your community by volunteering over the next two years on projects that you select. The 2021 Beach Watcher Training Program will be every Wednesday from March 10th – June 2nd, from 9am to 4pm.  Classes will be held virtually, with some field trips for in-person learning.  The course fee is $85 and applications are due March 9th.  For more information or to apply, visit the WSU extension page.

Goodwill Fundraiser for Scriber Lake High School

On Saturday, March 13th, there will be two Goodwill trucks stationed in the parking lot of Edmonds Lutheran Church from 9am – 12pm. Goodwill has committed to donating $600 to Scriber Lake High School for each truck that is filled.  They accept small pieces of furniture, clothing and textiles, and all household items except for mattresses. Clean out your garage, kitchens, and closets while raising money to help our students!
