Foreign Minister of Canada announces allocation of funds to Uzbekistan to fight coronavirus pandemic

On June 4, a telephone conversation took place between the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and his Canadian counterpart François-Philippe Champagne.

The parties considered the current state of bilateral relations, prospects for their intensification and interaction within the framework of international organizations, the MFA press service said.

“The heads of the foreign affairs agencies paid special attention to building up trade, economic and investment cooperation. Interest was expressed in the active entry of Canadian businesses into the Uzbek market and the implementation of high-tech investment projects in the fields of renewable energy, industry and agriculture,” the report said.

François-Philippe Champagne noted the role of Uzbekistan in Central Asia and expressed readiness to provide comprehensive support in the implementation of the initiatives of our country in the international arena.

The ministers also exchanged views on the Afghan issue. The parties emphasized the need for a speedy transition to the peaceful track of the situation in Afghanistan, involving the country in trade, economic and infrastructure processes in Central Asia.

“During the conversation, the current situation in the world related to the spread of COVID-19 was also considered. The importance of making joint efforts to mitigate the negative impact of the pandemic was noted. In this regard, the Foreign Minister of Canada announced the allocation of 250 thousand Canadian dollars to combat coronavirus infection in Uzbekistan,” the press service added.
