Hyoutan Sushi (ひょうたん寿司), the Popular Sushi Restaurant with Locals in Fukuoka, Japan!

On Sep. 15, 2018, after my friends and I had a simple breakfast in Tenjin Underground City, Fukuoka, Japan, we walked back to Hotel WBF Tenjinminami, loaded our luggage and then checked out. After checking out, it was almost at 11:00. We headed to Hyoutan Sushi (ひょうたん寿司) in the basement 2 of  Solaria Stage.

The branch of Hyoutan Sushi (ひょうたん寿司) we headed to was a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. The other branch was a normal sushi restaurant.

Hyoutan Sushi (ひょうたん寿司) was very popular with locals in Fukuoka. Queueing was inevitable. It made our mouths water to watch its sushi menu!

It took us roughly 1 hour to line up. Eventually it was our turn!

The reason we decided to visit a conveyor belt sushi restaurant was that most of us were poor at Japanese. We could order our sushi more conveniently when seeing others' sushi or sushi on the belt.

Whale tongue sushi
Out of my curiosity, I took one rare dish of whale tongue sushi as my beginning. The whale tongue was so tender with its rich fat. It had been a precious ingredient in human history.

In fact, human beings has eaten whale for a long period in history. Nowadays, not only in Japan, there are still whale cuisines in many countries like Iceland, Norway, Canada, Russian and so on. However, the issue of commercial whaling often become a political issue.

Personally speaking, I am neutral to the issue about whaling. My bottom line is not to endanger whales and make them fully disappear on Earth.

Hirabiko...probably
I was not sure about the name of next dish. Its name was written only in Hiragana (平仮名). I couldn't make sure I spelt it correctly. But the sliced fish was so fresh, and the texture of sushi rice was great!

Sea urchin sushi
The sea urchin sushi was so fresh and scrumptious with the aroma of seawater. The perilla leaves made the sushi impeccable!

Ox tongue sushi
The ox tongue sushi was also tasty! The ox tongue was roasted very well!

Mantis shrimp sushi
Personally speaking, my favorite this time was the mantis shrimp sushi. I saw it before in the manga, "Shota no Sushi". I had never had opportunity to try it in Taiwan. This time my dream finally came true. The texture of mantis shrimp was a little firm like a lobster. I loved it so much!

Big Toro
The fat of toro tuna seemed soon melted after I put it into my mouth! It was too hard to forget!

Crab roe sushi
I also loved the crab roe sushi. The crab roe tasted smooth and savory with the crab meat! The golden combo always satisfied me so much!

Shad sushi
The texture of shad was silky with its fat. It was also tasty!

Grilled pike eel sushi
The grilled pike eel sushi with kabayaki sauce was perfectly matched with the sushi rice!

Japanese horse mackerel sushi
The texture of Japanese horse mackerel was a little firm. The sushi was also amazing!

Tamagoyaki
And the tamagoyaki at Japan's sushi restaurant was worth a try! It tasted fluffy and smooth! Yummy!

The sushi with vinegar kelp
And then...the fish with vinegar kelp was really not my type. It tasted a little strange for me.

All dishes of sushi cost me 4,028 JPY (= 35.53 USD). The price seemed quite high, but the high quality of sushi was definitely worth what I paid! What a bargain!

After the satisfying lunch, we finished car rent and then drove directly to our next destination, Dazaifu, Fukuoka!
