PORT DICKSON: Barisan Nasional has its first-ever loss in the Bagan Pinang state seat in Negri Sembilan.

In a closely watched fight, Barisan’s candidate Mohd Najib Mohd Isa lost to Perikatan Nasional’s Abdul Fatah Zakaria.

Mohd Najib is the son of former Negri Mentri Besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad.

Perikatan’s Abdul Fatah Zakaria won with 10,921 votes, claiming a majority of 3,426 over Mohd Najib who garnered 7,495 votes.

The seat saw a voter turnout of 75.68% with some 2,585 spoiled votes.

The official results were announced by returning officer Dr Ishak Mohamad at about 9.20pm.

Bagan Pinang is known as a Barisan stronghold with former Negri mentri besar Mohd Isa also having won the seat in 2008.

It is a Malay-majority seat where Malays constitute 75.4% of the voters followed by Chinese at 6.8% and Indians at 10%.
