STEM Professional Interest Form
Science.Art.Wonder (SAW) is an Atlanta-wide initiative centered at Emory & Georgia Tech that matches artists and researchers together to create science-inspired artworks for science outreach and education. Artists, on a volunteer basis, will meet with a researcher and/or visit a laboratory, learn about the scientist’s research, and create artworks in response to that research. Resulting artwork, along with descriptions of the science, will be displayed at several events across Atlanta, including the Atlanta Science Festival (https://atlantasciencefestival.org).
As a STEM professional, your commitment would be to:
1) Meet with the artist at least once to discuss your research. These meetings could involve a single investigator or a larger lab group. Most pairings begin in the Fall of 2018. The latest start date for a pairing will be around the end of October.

2) Meet with the artist at least once to discuss sketches and ideas for the work.

3) Meet with the artist a final time to help create a short narrative explaining the work in relation to your research. This ensures that any presentation of the science in written form is an accurate representation of your research and field.

There will also be opportunities to present your research to the community along with the work of art. This would be voluntary but strongly encouraged.

Participating scientists must be generally available in the Atlanta area in Fall 2018 and Spring 2019. If your availability changes, please let us know and we will accommodate your participation. We intend to close applications and finalize matches by the end of October.

Emory & Georgia Tech students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to apply.

In most cases, artists will be undergraduate or graduate students, or adult volunteers from the community. The artists would come to you. There may be opportunities, however, for you to go to an after-school program or other community venue to work with a K-12 classroom or community organization to pair with a group of "artists". Would you be interested in participating in the program in this way?
