I’m very comfortable with the level of service, and protection that is being provided family residential centers [is] more like a summer camp.
-- Matt Albence, Executive Associate Director at ICE

It's insulting that that man even said that with a straight face. Just how "new" and/or flat out stupid does he think people must be that they'd actually believe him.

Ah, no! No ICE detention center is even remotely like summer camp.

End of OP.

:popcorn2: (The entertainment will be those who support ICE's position on this.)

I'd like to know what summer camp this official went to as a kid.

The last ICE picture doesn't look like "children". I've seen ISIS insurgents that looked younger.

They get 3 squares and a cot. Get to play soccer, read, etc. WTF do you think illegals deserve?

Another ISSUE this ‘gop’ is drowning on in the polls that will force McConnell’s hand.

I only wish I could be there when Gen. Kelly arrests this existential threat to the very future of our Nation.

During this August, like the one I lived through 44 years ago at this moment as a 20-yo, all I have to do is think of what McConnell would do if the roles were reversed.

I sure hope nobody even responds in substance to your comment because the point isn't about what anyone gets to do or deserves. It's about the gross misrepresentation of the facts and circumstances of the ICE centers.

poor kids. not their fault their parents illegally smuggled them. the kids should be sent back to their respective nation with their nation's government taking care of them.

the parents should be dealt with swiftly for their crimes and negligence

By which you're grossly misrepresenting their role. Babysitter it ain't.

Just remember they're part of the government protecting yours and my ass.

See...you are posting pictures from 2014. Back when...Oba...well...you know who...was president. Here is a CNN report from June.

What summer camp charges $775 per night per child???

the parents nor children are charged financially for their visit.

the parents are charged for their crimes in some cases.

No ****, we're paying for it all and they ain't giving them a quarter of what we're paying. Gee, I wonder where all the money is going and why nobody gives a damn. But who cares, Trump tweeted something stupid again!

  1. You have presented what is a foster home community built for immigrant kids who are wards of the state. That particular facility has been pressed into fill-in duty because of the recent crisis. Indeed, it's not even a detention facility.
  2. Even if that one place were a detention facility, it'd be the exception not the norm.
  3. The ICE official's remark wasn't about the condition in which detained kids or adults are maintained. It was about the nature of the detention facilities.
  4. Looking at myriad ICE detention centers, it doesn't take two seconds to see they aren't in any way like summer camps.
I don't much care what the facilities are like, but I know goddamn well they're not like summer camps. The problem, as far as this thread is concerned, isn't whether the detention facilities are cozy, or bucolic, or whatever. It's that the ICE official flat-out misrepresented what they are like. I made clear in my OP that the focus is on the official's misrepresentation of material fact. Indeed, that is the only thing upon which I remarked and showed to be so.

From the OP:
It's insulting that that man even said that with a straight face. Just how "new" and/or flat out stupid does he think people must be that they'd actually believe him.

For once, I composed a succinct OP and still at least two members, you, Vance, being one, failed to "get it" and, in turn, respond with a thematically germane comment.

??? What? More to the point, what has that to do with the inaccuracy of the ICE official's attestation to the Senate committee?

well the parents should be rightfully prosecuted and the poor children returned to their home nation's government for care. its not the child's fault their criminal parents smuggled them in illegally.

probably one with a place to sleep and free food.

Is there such a thing as summer camp with free food? I had to pay for my kids' summer camp. My folks paid for my siblings and me to go to summer camp. The money we paid covered room, board, and activities.

im saying free for the individuals at the camp.

are you saying you attended the camp with your children?

your children didnt pay a dime just like these

Hello!

The ICE official's remark had nothing to do with kids.

He palteringly attested to the nature of the detention facilities, not who is in them.

It doesn't matter who's in the detention facilities.

The facilities are not like summer camps. The ICE assistant director's depiction of them as "like summer camp" is a canard.

Red:
TY for the clarification.

I read your remark and what came to mind was the hundreds of thousands I've spent to send my kids (I have four kids) to camp over some dozen summers each. Free was about the last thing I'd have called summer camp. LOL
