Heartthrob (All-Stars Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 247 ratings

Move over, Colin Firth - there’s a new Darcy in town!

Jax Hawthorne is Hollywood’s sexiest bad boy. I’m a glorified secretary who thinks color-coding my library is a wild Friday night. So when he shows up after all this time wanting to make good on our childhood deal to tie the knot, it’s not because he can’t resist my perfect credit score. He needs a fake girlfriend to rehab his reckless image, and I’m the (safe, sensible) girl for the job. I would be insulted… if the proposal didn’t come with an all-expenses-paid trip to England while he shoots a new movie version of ’Pride & Prejudice.’

Goodbye, my dumpster fire of a dating life. Hello, steamy nights with a chiseled hunk who knows all the right moves.

Soon, I’m knee-deep in the English mud - and on-set drama. But all our fake-smoldering is getting my very real panties in a twist. It turns out, Jax is so much more than just a reckless playboy. He makes me want to forget our ‘arrangement’.. and break all the rules.

Can our pretend romance turn to something real? Or will scheming actresses, control-freak PR crews, and a pesky little thing called love ruin the best (fake) relationship of my life? Find out in the hot, hilarious new romance from Katie McCoy!

Kate McCoy has done it again with this book. She has captured my whole attention with Jax and Penny’s story. I thought is was adorable that young Jax proposed to young Penny, only to loose touch and then many years later when they meet again by chance, sparks fly igniting their young love. Their surprise encounter after so many years apart is sweet, especially how Pax saves Penny. From the moment they reunite their banter continued as if it never stopped. Jax is not ready to let Penny go so quickly after finding her again, so when he gets a chance to get her to help him he takes it. Penny’s controlled mondane life is faling apart around her and when everyone tells her she needs to take chances, she leaps and does what she never thought she wold be able to do . She takes a chance at helping out a friend by becoming his temporary girlfriend.. The only problem Penny has helping Jax is she once had a crush on him and will have to set boundaries to save her heart. Jax and Penny were two friends helping out each other until boundaries were broken. Jax doesn’t believe in love until Penny’s sassy, smart mouth turned his world upside down and opened his eyes. This story is full of fun witty, sexy, sweet, cocy moment. IIt’s full of passion, humor, friendship and love. I loved it!

Oh.My.Word
Hello, heart throb. This books was equal parts swoons and delicious. Jax is viewed as your typical British bad boy, Penny is your average works with numbers kind of woman, not a match you’d think at a glance. But you’d be wrong. Dead.Wrong.

I loved these characters and their back story of having met as kids. There is substance and history. We get just enough of it, without it dragging the book on. When they run into each other Penny digs her sequin stilettos in and tries to resist Jax, but when life throws her a curveball she decides to trust him and take the chance. Together they try to navigate through what’s real and what’s just Hollywood. You see them both grow and learn to put aside their fears and irrationality and just enjoy each other.

“You’re what matters, baby,” he said. “You’re the world to me. Everything else is just noise.”

All the feels. This is a low angst, high swoons book. Perfect for a quick read, I finished it in one setting!

Great chemistry between the two main characters. I love all her book and this one was no exception. It’s well written and a good story.

I have only read a couple of books from this author. I really like her writing style and the concept of this story seemed really fun. Penny and Jax met as children and spent a short time together but formed a great friendship. Their families move on and even though they start out keeping in touch by writing letters they of course grow up into young adults and the letters eventually stop.

We fast forward about 15 years later and Penny is a Financial Analyst and Jax is a famous movie star. They meet again in a bar and although they clearly do not have much in common anymore Jax still wants to reconnect but Penny is hesitant. Jax is trying to strengthen his reputation in Hollywood and needs a committed relationship to do that. Jax feels who better than to help him than his childhood friend.

Penny reluctantly says yes. I think she doesn't want to develop feelings and pretending to be a couple will possibly do that. I really liked Penny. She definitely played it more safe and she wasn't much of a risk taker but I loved that she wore her heart on her sleeve and would rather live life with no regrets than always wonder "what if". The downside was I felt like there was no real sexual chemistry with these two for a good portion of the beginning of the book. I got friendship vibes but not much more than that until they finally decide to play out a real relationship within their pretend one.

Jax was a little harder for me to like. He seemed like a genuinely good guy but his outlook on love and relationships was really sad. He never saw a positive loving relationship with his parents at home and therefor did not believe it to exist. His point of view was basically that it was more important to get married based on a strong friendship than passion and love. I just thought it was sad that he was so close minded and completely put off with the idea of love. Even after Penny puts her heart on the line and tells him she loves him he still doesn't know what to say or do. It was almost like he felt bad for her that she fell in love him. He doesn't go after right away, he doesn't realize he does on fact love her, he just goes on with this famous life. It isn't until a few weeks later that he finally misses her enough to know what he was feeling was love and goes after her.

This was fun at times but was more frustrating for me as a reader.

What does a bad boy movie star do to clean up his reputation in the public eye in order to land the next best leading role? He settles down with a “serious” type girl and has a fake romance. This is what playboy Jax Hawthorne hated about being a movie star.

Penny just lost the one job she worked her hurt off to make a successful business out of because she was too “safe” and didn’t take risks. She ends up in a local bar to drown her sorrows and to meet up with another blind date. Things turn sour on the date but Jax comes to her rescue. The guy she’s known since she was very young but lost contact with over the years.

Jax finds he’s still attracted to Penny and offers her the job of being his “fake “ girlfriend. Read this great story to see if Penny can handle the popularity, the paparazzi and not fall in love with Jax. See if Jax can open his heart and be more than friends with Penny.

I have enjoyed each book in this series. I enjoy all Katie's books. Loved the main characters. I read this book in one sitting which shows how good it was. Loved the locales of the book and how it moved from one to the next. I'm not usually a fan of pretend books but this one I liked very much.
