God of Grace, we give you thanks for all the blessings of our common life and ministries as the Episcopal Diocese of Maine. We thank you for the faithful work of the Discernment Committee and for all who have offered themselves to your service in this season of change. May the Holy Spirit continue to bless the Transition Committee, and to infuse this process with the gifts of faith, hope and love. We give thanks and pray for Anne, Janet, Ken, Rachel, and Thomas. May they be filled with vision, courage, patience and hope as our work of discernment continues. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.

Bishop Quest update: Special Convention registration open
The slate of candidates who will stand for election as 10th Bishop of Maine at a special convention on February 9, 2019 has been announced and received media attention. Read the Portland Press Herald article here.

Everyone will have an opportunity to attend the "Walkabout" gathering events in Bangor, Augusta and Portland the weekend of January 18 - 20.
The Electing Convention will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 (snow date: Saturday, February 23rd) at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Only canonically resident clergy and duly elected delegates may register here:
Late registration closes on January 18, 2019. Please read this letter from Bishop Lane for more information to help you prepare for the Special (Electing) Convention. Please consult this list of Certified Lay Delegates to Electing Convention. If you are a priest (or senior warden in absence of a priest) of a congregation still needing to submit a certificate or with changes to the delegation on the list, please be in touch with Teresa Pinney at your earliest convenience: [email protected].
Way of Love Advent curriculum bulletin inserts
The Episcopal Church has invited congregations, dioceses, and communities of faith to await the coming of Christ by moving through the first two chapters of the Gospel of Luke this Advent. Bulletin inserts, curriculums and advent calendar can be downloaded here.

Be a part of global online Advent calendar with AdventWord
The online advent calendar AdventWord, which draws together people's prayers and meditations around a daily theme, begins its fifth Advent season on December 2 offering 23 meditations and images with an encouragement for people to share pictures and thoughts in response.
They've created a social media community connecting over 100,000 people in prayer, with about 15,000 images being added across all platforms each year.

Advent Quiet Day in Kennebunk
Join us for a day apart on Saturday, Dec. 8 (9am-3pm) to turn towards Jesus in Advent preparation. There will be opportunities for different kinds of prayer and meditation, from centering prayer to drawing to whole-body prayer, to take the time you need to make space to follow Jesus. St. Ann's, Windham, offers Beyond Blue Christmas service
On Wednesday, December 12, at 7 p.m., St. Ann's, Windham (40 Windham Center Road), will host a worship and healing service for those who struggle with loss, sadness, or loneliness during the holidays.
All are invited to come as you are and just listen and pray or, if you'd like, to share with others an object, reading, poem, or scripture that has helped you.
Parochial Report packets to be mailed to congregations next week
Congregations will be mailed information about the 2018 Parochial Report filing next week. All components of the mailing will remain the same as in recent years:
- A letter from Canon Barlowe, Executive Officer of the of the General Convention.
- An index card with its respective congregation's User ID (UEID) and PIN.
Other important information to note for this upcoming filing year:
- The Parochial Report filing site underwent some updates. Some features have been added to make it easier to view, but nothing has changed to the actual report itself.
- Online filing begins January 2nd.
- You can download and print the 2018 Parochial Report by visiting the report site on the Episcopal Church website at: https://www.episcopalchurch.org/research/forms-and-instructions

Meeting of Episcopal Peace Foundation in Newcastle Dec. 1st
The Maine Chapter of Episcopal Peace Fellowship is meeting Saturday, December 1, at St. Andrew's Church in Newcastle. We will gather from 10 a.m. until about noon, concluding with a simple potluck brunch. We welcome newcomers as well as our faithful members: we need your presence and your ideas, your energy and your advocacy for peace. In case of a snow cancellation, check with co-convener Diane Paterson by email ([email protected]) by 8 a.m. on that Saturday.

Enjoy an Old Fashioned Christmas Fair at Trinity Episcopal Church, 580 Forest Ave., Portland, ME on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 8:30am to 1:30pm. Read more here.
"Hark! How the Bells!" Concert in Boothbay Dec. 6th
Down East Singers, with the St. Petersburg (Russia) Men's Ensemble and pianist Jennifer McIvor will perform together in a concert entitled "Hark! How the Bells!" on Thursday, December 6, at 7:30 PM at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 32 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor. Anthony Antolini of Cushing will conduct the concerts. Suggested donation of $20 at the door. Portions of proceeds will benefit the ministries of St. Columba's.
